the "industry standard" appears to be 8/4, and I don't see why they would suddenly say hey, let's pay our MTs more than the industry standard. I mean really, can you? The best I think we can possibly hope for if and when they finally come out with their enhanced compensation package (starting to look doubtful) is some sort of production bonus. But I wouldn't hold my breath on that either.

I still think they intend or did intend to do something about pay, from their language about "realigning" but I think they either changed their minds or it just got stalled. I really don't believe that BOOST was ever intended to be the new compensation plan.

They pay more of our medical insurance, which puts $100 more in my pocket each month, and the increase in life insurance at least doubled what they were giving me before, which offers a little more comfort if something were to happen to me.

If you don't take advantage of the 401, then that is your choice. The offer is there. I would never turn down the offer for "free" money.

I don't use their insurance, doesn't mean I don't have insurance. That is an optional benefit. As far as 401, up until recently they did not match, so why should I use that. They can decide not to match it as quick as they decided to match it. Much better places to put my money. All those things have nothing to do with my bottom line, line rates.

I put in a raise request when I saw they were calling former employees back. Still waiting to hear, but I've been told before that I'm maxed out in pay...ridiculous!!! but apparently can give up to 3% raise.

Surely not me. My 401K (if it even still exists - haven't bothered to even look) has languished in apathy and non-funding limbo for the past nearly 7 years. So of course, since I can't afford to put anything from my crappy paycheck into my 401K, they don't have to match it. Yet they call it a "benefit". What a farce.

Do you or anyone see a tipping point where they will be forced to offer more money or more incentives in order to keep or attract MTs? I see they are calling former employees trying to get them back and I am plotting my escape later this year, as I am sure others have done or plan to do in droves. I would stay if I could be paid more, but no longer.

Take advantage of the shift differential and get your CMT/RMT or try to tier up. Of course that means working the night shift, paying money to the vultures at AHDI that will not raise you above your tier rate anyway and good luck in trying to get anyone to send you the test to tier up. I gave up after 3 times.

Sarcasm here too. In fact, with the new 7.1 get ready for a pay cut because in their warped sense of reality the "technology" will help you make more money even as they pull the rug out from under you. Work faster is your only option.

I think what everyone needs to do is get together and - BOYCOTT VR-EDITING.

That's where they can be backed into a corner, because no one can edit VR or Indian-typed garbage except a quality, experienced US MT.

They'll SAY the Indians can do it, but I say let 'em try it, and just sit back and see how "well" that works out for them. At 3-4cpl, my mindset is, if the Indians find some way to do that (HAH! yeah, RIGHT), then they can just have the stinking VR.

If they want to pay bad, then by all means, they should GET it bad. They want top-quality editing? Then don't call us until they can pay us for ALL of our time, and/or ALL of our keystrokes. We've pretty much reached a point where we've got little to nothing to lose by standing our ground.

Simple as that.

Ok, finally, the horrors have happened to me. All was well, but now I'm getting seriously pissed. I work 8 hour shifts 5 days a week. Those hours are mandatory. My pay is equalling less than minimum wage. I e-mailed the company asking them about having to pay me minimum wage given the mandatory hours. The only response I got was "I'll look into it." I've had the same line rate (9 cpl) for 5 years, and I notice the new accounts they offer MTs pay 7.5 or 8 cpl at most. I assume that the MT companies set up a contract with the client for them to pay on a per-line basis.  Of course, they charge more than they pay us; that's how they make their money & that's fine.  But what I'm wondering is... when we get a report that comes in as VR instead of straight typing, where does the extra money go, since we get paid less for VR.  I feel like I work just as hard, if not harder on VR than typing a report.  So why don't we make ...

I have been a transcriptionist for 30+ years. This past year, the hospital I was working for replaced myself and 27 other fabulous ladies with an outside service. I am now working for a service, and 85-90% of the reports I get are editing and the rest transcription. My paychecks are frightening. As far as editing goes, I just don't see it. I lost my primary accounts recently and was switched to an account where most of the jobs are really short clinic-type notes (less than a minute).  This pay period, my paycheck will be over $200 less than it was when I had my primary accounts, and I'm barely making my minimum line counts.  I've been doing this job for a long time and have always had really good line counts before.  I've been feely really down in the dumps like maybe I've just kind of lost ...
