key board - nature

Posted: Jan 29, 2012

Has anyone found a decent keyboard to use with the new computer.  I hate this one.  I cannot feel the keys, because they are as flat as a pancake (if not flatter).  I want to go out and buy one, but don't know what would be compatible....another Del keyboard?  Please help.

why not ask support for a different one - that is what I would do

Tell them this keyboard is unacceptable and you would like another IBM keyboard sent ASAP.

Dont take anything less. If they tell you that this is all they offer, tell them it is junk and they must provide you proper equipment.

Do I call them? Sometimes it takes days to get a response from the self-help program. I want to talk to someone and defend my request.

I would try and call - what I would do

I would follow that up with a Q care ticket with your request in writing, for a paper trail. There is no reason why we have to work with junk, I mean, junk besides ASR of course.

Sounds like a plan. That is if I can get the self-help QCare to work. Thanks!!

I think any keyboard would work. I don't think it has to be a Dell. Did you keep your old one? If so it would work but you might need to get an adapter.

I remember that someone tried an adapter, and they said they would get a message that computer could not read keyboard (or something like that). I wish I could get an adapter, as I love my old keyboard. If anyone has gotten an adapter that worked, PLEASE let me know. Thanks.

Mine works - MTTT

My own personal keyboard works on it and it is a microsoft ergonomic 4000. They can only provide you with what they have available. I have to have the ergonomic ones so I have to provide my own. They no longer have the same providers since they were bought by CBAY.
I have the same keyboard - Love it

Since switching I no longer have any wrist pain and my production actually increased some. The letters are worn off mine. It's actually my 3rd one. One just stopped working one day and the other had a run-in with some coffee.

A couple years ago, I called MQ to try to get a replacement with an ergo style, but they said they only provide straight boards. You'd think they would try to promote healthy typing.
I agree. - MTTT

This is my 2nd one. I wore out some of my keys and they wouldn't work anymore on the 1st one. This one has several of the letters worn off too. I love mine too. On my personal computer, I have the curved microsoft keyboard you get from Walmart for about $20. It is not too bad either. It would be easy for someone who had never used an ergo before to get used to. It not as separated as the ergo but it is cheap and has a soft touch. MQ should at least offer that one.
I'm still missing my old 1984 IBM "Clacker" - RIP My Favorite Keyboard
[ In Reply To ..]
Worked like a champ, new in box and never used...Then I murdered it. In cold blood. By using Dust-Off on it in an effort to keep it clean. I guess the Dust-Off was too liquidy (?) because the keys went haywire and, even after drying it out, they never worked right again. Now I'm making due with a halfway decent Dell...but I'd love to find another clacker!

wireless keyboard - North MT

I feel your pain. I went to Office Max and got an ergonomic wireless keyboard/mouse. Best money I ever spent. There is just a little piece that plugs into the USB port on the computer and the keyboard and mouse work off bluetooth.

I think you can buy any keyboard with a USB connection. I bought a Logitech for $15 but the $10 ones would have worked as well. I bought this one because I have had good luck with Logitech products. There is a good chance if you request another one from the company they will send you an old, dirty one.

I have and always will use a Keytronic keyboard. It is true...you can use any keyboard with the Medquist computer. It doesn't even have to have a USB connection, as you can buy an adapter. Mine only cost me $20...much easier than dealing with support just for a keyboard IMO.

keyboard adaptor - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I called my keyboard company, KeyTronics and they suggested Adesso PS/2 to 45B adaptor. I found it on Amazon for 10.13. They told me the adaptor has to have the thing in the middle or it won't work. I tried it with separate ones and it didn't work. KeyTronics also has keyboards with USB already on it.

adaptor - Nature

This is what I found:

Adesso PS/2 to USB Adapter, connects 2 PS/2 connectors to 1 USB port/hub (ADP-PU21 )

It is $10.03 I could not find Adresso PS/2 to 45B adaptor. What do you think?

adaptor - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
That adaptor is one I got. Forget the 45B. You might want to double check with your keyboard company to make sure it fits your keyboard too, but it most likely will. That is what I was advised for KeyTronics.

I went back to using the HP keyboard - Daisy

[ In Reply To ..]
I also didn't like the new one they sent me. It was a Dell and very different from the original HP keyboard. I just connected the old HP without having to use an adapter and it works fine.

adapter - Nature

[ In Reply To ..]
Mine was HP also, but where it connects to the compugter is different. It is round, and the del is oblong and sticks out. You cannot fit a square peg into a round hole (or just the opposite in this case). I want to use my old HP computer. I will even buy a Del keyboard if it would have keys that would stick up and the keyboard not lay so flat. I have it propped up with a thick tablet, but it scoots while I am typing.

hint for propping up a keyboard...sm - Fossil

I also had the same problem with the keyboard lying too flat. So, I took a hand towel, rolled it up lengthwise and laid it lengthwise under the top part of the KB.

Also, to keep the KB from scooting around, get a roll of rubberized liner, the type you put in a refrigerator drawer (it is green and kind of looks like mesh), cut it to size for your KB tray. I got a roll of it at the dollar store for a buck. It completely keeps the KB from moving around.

Nature, re adapter - ksm

[ In Reply To ..]
This is what we are talking about...why you need the adapter. The older keyboards have a PS/2 connection (round), and the newer ones use a USB port (rectangular). An adapter plugs into the round hole and converts to the rectangular hole. You can get them pretty much anywhere. That way you can still use your old keyboard.
Keyboard adapter, keyboard and spell check - Nature
[ In Reply To ..]
Thank you to all of you who took the time to try and help me. I am going to try and find the proper adapter. Until then, I have my keyboard with the hand towel rolled up under the top of the KB and some of those pads you put under your rugs to keep them from slipping under the bottom of the keyboard. As for spell check, called DICTATE, and he walked me through fixing it. It was because I had adjusted the zoom and such. I now know what to do for the problem. You guys are great!!!!

I'm Not Sure If This Is The Right Board, But It Is
Jan 14, 2013

It is so very frustrating!  I type for a wound care clinic, and, of course, a great deal of the patients there are diabetic, as am I.  About a year ago I learned from my diabetic teacher that a local supermarket chain pharmacy offers all diabetic supplies and meds for free, whether you are insured or not.   At least once every couple of weeks I type a note in which the doctor says the patient hasn't been able to afford his/her diabetes medication or insulin, and they seem to ...

What's Up With This Ad On Another Board For OB
Jan 29, 2015

You see it periodically, OB, radiology, and something else but it's pretty clear the work will be OB.  The test consists of 3 files (getting this from the ad) and you should finish it in less than 2 hours.  3 files?  How long are the files?  So, my real question is (the other two were thiinking out loud), does this ad get run periodically to clear out the backlog or is it really a legit job and why does it come up so often?  It's not the exact same ad everytime ...
