Is this standard procedure? Or just being ignored. - MThere3months

Posted: May 08, 2012

I have been here a little while, about 3 months.  I have been switched around between CCMs already to go where my primary account goes.  I needed a few hours to go to a school function and asked for that leave.  I have never been responded to by my CCM.  Is this usual?  I put up my shift on the swapboard, said I'd make the time up.  Etc. Etc. But no response at all.  Do we ever get leave when asked? Or am I to say no to my child from now on.  I just need to know what to expect b/c though I am shuffled around, they don't communicate to me other wise.  Would like to know what people have experienced here in this company so I know what to tell my kid. Thanks.

some CCMS want advance notice - slave wages

some don't. Since you have had no reply, just put in a leave request on Teamwork.

That is how I contacted my CCM with the leave request - OP

[ In Reply To ..]
We were told that is how to communicate with CCMs for time off. No response on there at all. I put it in well in advance. Also, if she does not respond as a rule for those who have CCMs who do not respond, how do you handle planning vacations. I was hoping for a week away the end of August. Is that out too? Just wondering standard procedure versus reality around here. Thanks for your reply BTW.

Keep going up the chain - hopefully, one will listen

[ In Reply To ..]
Keep going up in the chain until someone does something and mention to them that your CCM has been ignoring your emails. I don't know how some of these CCMs keep their jobs. Mine is awesome and replies within the day, if not within the hour. The bad CCMs are wasted space.

If you have my CCM - then yes, it is SOP

Welcome to Ignoreville!

So if they don't answer, then we never get - OP

[ In Reply To ..]
Does no answer mean we never get time off?

I usually just take the time I asked for - then send in a note

[ In Reply To ..]
saying that I took the time that I had requested. Not saying we have the same CCM, but mine eventually approves it. Good luck!
Thanks for your advice. - OP

Very much appreciated!

I think it depends on CCM - Unfortunately...

[ In Reply To ..]
I was with Medquist for about 5 years, left and came back to MModal. I *always* got time off when asked with Medquist...everytime..and in a timely fashion.

With my new CCM so far she has not answered emails for 2-3 days (I have not asked for time off) and she has cancelled TWICE people's already preapproved PTO for a week, the beginning of April was cancelled new to a new go live and another upcoming week. I cannot freaking imagine having preapproved time revoked not once but twice in the two months that I've been with her. I did leave recently, but had I stayed I would have requested a new CCM as never in my 25 years of transcribing have I seen approved time off be revoked at all (voluntarily asked to come in yes, but this was "If I approved you for X through X you now are scheduled to work" no I'm sorry).

Thanks for letting me know this... I will have a plan B sometime soon - OP

[ In Reply To ..]
We aren't machines. We have lives and family. I know this is laughable to say since I work here so please do not laugh. But honestly, if I can never get time off approved, this was not agreed to when I took the job. I will have another lined up to go to if I find that I have no communication with CCM, and or never able to take approved time off. This I am sure would be against labor laws if any other line of work. I don't get paid near enough to be treated like that, with such utter disrespect. So thanks for the heads up. I may only be here 3 months but I have over 25 years in the business and I am not an idiot to fall for scare tactics or manipulation by them, with the no answer no time off attitude. Thanks again.

Sound like me - Unfortunately

[ In Reply To ..]
I did this for nearly 25 years. CMT, QA, editor, etc. Done it all. I preferred straight typing but decided to try VR coming here..between the crap I was given (accounts switched multiple times) and the not so much scar tactics as "well we all have to make cuts" whilst seeing them hire on more and more top heavy staff, I found a way out and took it. I have taken a 2 year break from MTing before, but this time I think it's permanent. I can't see going back to a profession whose pay not only has not grown with inflation, but has decreased and the respect medical records being accurate is in the toilet. I do not blame VR for this, but I think if they want to pay people nonprofessional wages for a professional job--that's what they end up with and I don't want to be involved.
Plus I don't understand this way of management... - OP

I keep thinking I must be wrong b/c I am here only 3 months, but seriously to never allow time off? Or to ignore requests for leave as a rule. This if told during the job interview/offer, would never have been acceptable to me. I am still not believing this could be happening. I finally find a job where I have a lot of work (spent a couple of years with NJA elsewhere) and now I find that I am in a place where it is a rule to ignore people's right to time off/vacation/family functions, etc.
Am I imagining this...
I think its possible you are jumping the gun - sm

I dont always get a response either, but I pick up the phone, call and leave a message. I will also send a follow-up email if I haven't heard anything in a few days.

Go ahead and put your request in on teamwork, send another follow-up email if she still does not answer in a timely fashion pick up the phone and call her and leave a nice message saying:
"I am going to be taking such-n-such day off as requested in teamwork, if you have a problem with this, give me a call at 123-456-789, thanks."

Sometimes they will approve things and not get right back to you. My CCM has close to 200 MTs that she supervises, so its no wonder emails go unanswered sometimes. I dont like it either, but its not like working in a small dept or for a small company, there are lots of people trying to reach them and needing answers besides just us.

reason I left - llm

[ In Reply To ..]
That is one of the reasons I left them. I could never get a timely response to any of my questions and sometimes the question was simply ignored. I just did what I wanted and no one ever said anything but it got old after awhile and also was constantly running out of work and then get notice to work mandatory ot just just so there would be no work come Monday when I was supposed to work

I think the work issues vary from region to region - see msg

[ In Reply To ..]
I see a couple of the same people posting on here all the time about not having any work. Yet we have tons of work and extremely high volumes. I cant remember when the last time was I worked just 40hrs in one week.

Then I read posts about people getting emails to come to work for them and calls asking them to come back. They have been looking for help on my region for quite sometime now, but I dont think they can keep it because we have very strict accounts and maybe some cant take the pressure.

Seriously? Children come first. If you get no reply... - take the leave anyway

[ In Reply To ..]
It would not even be a question for me. They have plenty of fingers to type while you're gone. Do what you need to do, and deal with the PTO/make up work, etc. when your CCM gets back to you on it - or not.

Double Standard
Mar 29, 2011

Time and time again it is reiterated the importance for us to remain professional, as we are a reflection of MQ.  For example, never say "poor dictator" because this may be insulting to the holy than thou doctor, PA or RN.  What about the annoying PA that constantly insults me by saying in middle of her dictation, "note to my typist."  And this is not insulting?  All the training, years of experience and BS I have to put up with to be called a "typist" repeatedly.  ...

Can We F11 A Report If It An ASR That Has A Standard For The WT?

What Happened To Standard Forms?
Sep 22, 2011

Suddenly we have new QA and it's gotten crazy! We have some new PA's that dictate things so out of order as compared to the "norm" and QA wants us to give it to them instead of making reports alike as we were trained to do.  I've had some dictate drug allergies in review of systems and medications in the plan and QA wants this. I don't get it. I just don't understand how a doctor can know to check the plan for what meds a patient is on.  I also have a PA that ...

New Wave Of Pay/training, Becoming Standard?

Any Advice On Line Count "Industry Standard" Please
May 13, 2011

I wondered if any one on this board can tell me the industry standard for lines per hour or lines per minute are? Mostly what I see on this forum is discussion over CPL or hourly rates without a line per day requirement. My employer recently stated our department was not producing enough and is suggesting 1900 lines per day which seems high as a 5-day-a-week requirement. Right now I'm doing right at 200 lines per hour/approx. 1400 lines per day with template and about 1100 without temp ...
