is there no standard of quality in QA? - new to Fluency

Posted: Sep 17, 2013

i am on 100% QA and am constantly confused.  I am corrected for things, ask my coach.  She tells me QA is correct.  Then when I change it how she says to I get it changed back to the way I was doing it before~!  I love Fluency, i am amazingly fast at it but i think QA will ultimately do me in...for doing what i'm told to do...GRRRRR

With QA, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I would love for the QA people to QA each other! They seem to have entirely different ideas of what's correct, yet it's their marks that determine whether we stay or go! That must be quite a power trip for them.

QAs marks mean nothing but feedback - It is the auditors that matter

There are some QA (MMEs) out there who don't keep up with all the silly changes and don't read the BOS2 or the Transcription Style Guide, or the Fluency Handbook. I'm an MME and, yes, we do QA each other. Whenever I leave feedback, I copy and paste the rule right out of the reference material where I found it so there would be no question. Unless a comma or lack thereof completely changes the sentence (very rare), I'll leave it be. Hyphens aren't a big deal. If they use it incorrectly, I may let them know just for knowledge sake, but for heaven's sake, I don't mark each and every instance where it is wrong. In fact, commas and hyphens are to be ignored according to MME training. (As said, some MMEs are old school and aren't with the times, unfortunately). Every once in awhile I QA a report of an MME who already QA'd the report for an MT (usually happens when clients don't allow any blanks and the MT is also on 100%, one MME to fill the blank, another to 100% the MT. Makes perfect sense!) In that case, if the previous MME went above and beyond and went through the whole report, there are times where I remove a lot of silly feedback where the MT was correct in the first place.

All-in-all, its a zoo. You have some wonderful MMEs who just want to help the MT learn so that when they are audited they know what the auditors look for (not commas, not hyphens), and then others who are bitter and get some thrill for marking up reports (like a building inspector who needs to find at least 1 thing wrong with a new house, no matter how insignificant). Just as there are horrible and excellent MTs, there are horrible and excellent MMEs.

My best advice is to know the guides or at least look up the feedback to make sure who is correct. If you are correct, report to the QC with the reference. If the MME is correct, learn from it and call out any MME that tells you otherwise.

Personally, periodically, I ask my QC and TSM if there have been any complaints about my QA work. That is the only way I'll learn if I'm doing something wrong that I only think is correct.

Can we clone you? You are an awesome MME. - nm

Agree, I am never 100% correct - sm

I love QA feedback, when it is constructive. If I get an MME that off the bat starts hitting on every comma, I automatically mark it read and move on. Stick with the important stuff please, it is so much easier to follow that way.

QA in Fluency - ari

[ In Reply To ..]
I was just laid off from MModal and cannot believe the stories on here. I had one Fluency account and one Powerscribe 360. The difference is amazing. When we had work I could easily get 30 jobs done in Powerscribe. I stayed away from the Fluency account - it is crap with about 20 more steps than Powerscribe, but I never got any QA comments on either account. We didn't even has a QC person to ask questions to. I had no training in Fluency - just figured it out on my own. It is unbelievable how inconsistent this company is. I know one thing as far as I knew everything was fine and then I get a phone call saying its not your fault, but your fired as of now. So I guess for all those left, enjoy your job while you have one? I wouldn't go buying a new care or anything. Heard it through the grapevine if you don't get fired right after Christmas there will be another pay cut.

How'd you get so lucky! - wishiwereu

I came back from being the hospital for several days and all of a sudden my quality is not up to par, after 12 years!!! I WISH they would let me go or fire me. I wish I could hurry up and find another job fast too. Good Luck!

which grapevine was that? - starting rumors

[ In Reply To ..]
Please don't start rumors. You don't know this. We had someone come on here early last year saying we'd all get our walking papers in April, and we're still here.

Thank you - anon

New Quality Index Vs Old Quality Score
Oct 18, 2014

I ran an error report for all reports, all accounts on my platform for this quarter, 10/1 - 10/18. So far the Quality Index is 84% vs Quality Score 99.18%.  Didn't they advertise this new error scoring as working out in our favor?  Doesn't look like it to me. This is based on 2194 jobs and 105,358 lines audited on E5.  I checked the box that says view all corrections on the correction report. ...

Double Standard
Mar 29, 2011

Time and time again it is reiterated the importance for us to remain professional, as we are a reflection of MQ.  For example, never say "poor dictator" because this may be insulting to the holy than thou doctor, PA or RN.  What about the annoying PA that constantly insults me by saying in middle of her dictation, "note to my typist."  And this is not insulting?  All the training, years of experience and BS I have to put up with to be called a "typist" repeatedly.  ...

Can We F11 A Report If It An ASR That Has A Standard For The WT?

What Happened To Standard Forms?
Sep 22, 2011

Suddenly we have new QA and it's gotten crazy! We have some new PA's that dictate things so out of order as compared to the "norm" and QA wants us to give it to them instead of making reports alike as we were trained to do.  I've had some dictate drug allergies in review of systems and medications in the plan and QA wants this. I don't get it. I just don't understand how a doctor can know to check the plan for what meds a patient is on.  I also have a PA that ...

Any Advice On Line Count "Industry Standard" Please
May 13, 2011

I wondered if any one on this board can tell me the industry standard for lines per hour or lines per minute are? Mostly what I see on this forum is discussion over CPL or hourly rates without a line per day requirement. My employer recently stated our department was not producing enough and is suggesting 1900 lines per day which seems high as a 5-day-a-week requirement. Right now I'm doing right at 200 lines per hour/approx. 1400 lines per day with template and about 1100 without temp ...
