I just read a post by someone who went from MME back to MT/ME - question for you

Posted: Dec 16, 2011

OMG.  I had no idea we could do this - I thought once we were "promoted" to MME we were stuck with it.  I've never made so little money in my life than I have as an MME … it has been one of the biggest mistakes I've made in my life.

How did you do that, was it as simple as just saying you didn't want to do it anymore?  Did your CCM give you a hard time about it?

You're not stuck -- tell your supe to change you back - sm

I was "promoted," too, a few months back. What a joke. After two weeks I e-mailed her and told her this so-called "promotion" was going to land me in the poorhouse, and would she please change me back to MT status. No fuss, no muss, no questions. It's no skin off your supervisor's nose, so she shouldn't care. It's your livelihood at stake here. Go for it.

*Slaps forehead* - anon

You have NO IDEA how much that would help me. I'm going to write her a note tonight to ask. Seriously, for me it means the difference between earning $0.03 cpl and $0.055 for ASR which might be juuuuust enough to save me.

99% of my day is MME work and I've been teetering on the edge of financial ruin since my "promotion" but I thought I was stuck with my MME position.

Wow â€Â¦ THANK YOU.

MME status change - Once an MME

[ In Reply To ..]
Sadly enough I was in the same boat, I complained and queried and tried my doggone best to help others to keep the stuff from coming to QA, but no one cared about making changes, just making dollars so 80% of my work was MME and yeah, I was unable to support myself. I did go back down in pay though, I had gotten a little promotion money for upgrading, what is was like 15% or something? So I went back down, so I'm not making less than I was as an MME but I am making less than I was before I went to MME because about 80% of my work is now SR where I don't make much.

I'm glad other MMEs are acknowledging the low pay - MME too

[ In Reply To ..]
there was a post a couple months back that stated that MMEs shouldn't get paid for the whole report but just for the word we filled in because we didn't actually type the report and that we had it easy.

Its not knowing what this position is like that sets all the MT/MEs against us.

MME pay - once an MME

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, I think you are right the MT/ME's didn't understand actually how little we were being paid and I think resented us for it. But heck, they could take the test and step up and experience that which we did as well. What a sorry promotion, it was no promotion only in the words not in the pay or prestige. Sheesh.

Converting back to MT/ME easy peasy - once an MME, no more

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes it was that simple I said to my CCM after much trying to make the situation better that I needed to revert back to MT/ME status, it took effect the very next paycheck, and the only thing I had to understand was that I can only change status like that 1 time a year, so if I wanted to try again for MME it would have to be a year later. She took care of everything I had to do nothing. Go for it. Sadly enough many people have.

I think it's time to hear from "the other side", so I volunteered myself.  If you don't like it, too bad, but I will tell you the truth about how most MTSOs feel.  Through the years, I have gotten to be friends or at least friendly with many other MTSOs, some who have sold their companies and got out, some who sold their companies and came back and some who have never sold their companies.  I have been an MTSO for 24 years, and I was a transcriptionist and transcription ...

Advice Needed For MT Career Or Going Back To School...pls Read!
Nov 20, 2009

Hello! I'm hoping to get some good, sound advice about whether I should persue a career in med trans, or go back to school to finish my degree. I'm almost finished with MT school (MTEC) and plan to test/look for job(s) around February/March 2010. My boyfriend's income is our primary source of income, any I would make would be supplemental. I've been reading A LOT (perhaps too much) lately about the difficulty/hardships MTs have in making a decent living just doing MT. I ...

I know if it is postauricular (for example), it is attached ... but how about post aneurysmal surgery?  It does not seem like it would be attached.  - Is it proper to leave it stand-alone or should I change it to status post ... or actually attach it? Back To Work After Back Surgery
Aug 23, 2012

Hello, I would like to transcribe from home again. However, I HAVE to get up and walk for a few minutes at least once an hour. You see, I had to have 2 back surgeries in the last 18 months. I've been a transcriptionist for many years and this is my profession. Does anyone have a suggestion what to tell these companies that will hire you to work from home when you have to get up so much? The last company I tried had a "pop-up" box that appeared on my screen if you were up longer than 10 min ...

Found this in the Letters to Editor in AdvanceWeb.com. :   I feel compelled to voice my thoughts on the topic of credentialed MTs; the reason being I work with a fantastic group of MTs under my management. They are highly skilled, productive and accurate and simply the best staff to manage. Here are my thoughts. * Are Credentialed MTs better? If t ...

Good Morning MQ-ville. I was reading a posting below, started yesterday "Whadayaknow" and there were a couple of responses to the posting that I think are worth you reading. We should all be much more PROACTIVE in the auditing process and ask questions or if we disagree, tell them we do!  We should also not take BS sitting down!  I agree that too many of us have just accepted being fed crap because we've begun to feel "beaten down". I also am 'MAD AS HELL AND NOT GOING TO ...

IMPORTANT! Every MT/MME Needs To Read This!

Just spoke to someone I know in TAA/Unemployement office.  FIRST TIME RIGHT is a gray area. We can fight this because it is a gray area. It is not right that if a doctor dictates and we cannot understand what they are saying for sure and we can get docked in pay, literally take money from us.  IT IS NOT LEGAL.   That is probably why the big bosses are on this board to see what they can get away with.  We have every right to fight them.  It is just wrong!  I WAS ...
