From a grandfathered employee of MQ - for almost 25 years,

Posted: Jul 12, 2011

You have successfully cut my pay over a dollar and a quarter.  ALL YOU BOARD OF DIRECTORS have NOT cut your pay, but in fact have gone up in pay with bonuses totaling over over a 1 million and a half in pay.

HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY AND HAVE A SOUND SLEEP DURING THE NIGHTS FOR DOING THIS!!!

For this company, in years past, I have been called at all hours in the morning, 03:00 hours to type up YOUR STAT reports.  Never called in sick and loved working for The MRC Group.  Then you merged with Transcription Limited.  After 24 years, you would THINK I would get some kind of retirement, but NOTHING, only one negative after a negative working for you.  Just when you think it could not get worse, you have successfully succeeded and I am sure there will definitely be more disappointments to come.

You have completely made me positive to know that I have done the right thing by going back to school and doing something more useful with my life than staying to the end for your company while you can pay for your fancy expensive homes and kids 30,000 a year college tuition.  Because I know in the near future, you will let me go when you do not need me anymore when the M-modal or EPIC systems take over and will not be needing hardly any MT's in the future.

I know you have planted in your brains that there are not enough MT's in the United States and we all know that is a pure lie from heckl.  You have also stated there are competitive costs when we know that is not true and if it is correct, it is because you are worried about your own salaries.

Yep, had enough being treated like crap after working for you this long.  We all know you tried for the past couple of years to let us oldie but goodies leave/quit.  I applaud you because you have won.

Lastly, I know you do not care about any of what you are reading because you have no heart and no soul.  Thanks for an unbelievable ride for the past 20 some years.

A million and a half dollars a year, thats something I only dream of. I actually do, quite a lot. I know money is not everything and i'm close to losing what i've got, but they are material things. I keep telling myself they are just material things and they are not important so I do not lose my sanity.

The sooner you realize what makes this world go around, the sooner you will...heck, I have no words of advice here. It's fun to dream:

1. Play the lottery, you will feel like a millionaire for a couple of hours.

2. Window shop online and fantasize over things you cannot buy. You will get a pleasant rush.

3. Picture yourself in a soup kitchen or receiving aid from a local church. This way, when the time gets closer where you cannot feed your family, you have that comforting feeling YOU CAN.

4. Stop paying creditors; Our president has, and he is our example right now. Therefore, no guilt! :)

5. Pet your animals...ALOT...now there is something worth it!

6. Cling tightly to your Bible, join forces with God, channel some of that unconditional love of His (this is probably the best advice here, so I saved it for last).

My carpal tunnel and other issues from working here for 15 years is kickin in and I have some more dreamin' to do anyways.

Hey, we should start a thread of pure fantasy. For example, I fantasize I suddenly have 200,000 (I don't know why that number) and I spend it on things piece by piece, starting with my debt. Maybe I choose this modest number because its just enough to get me over this economic slump, but not enough to turn me into a lazy, greedy moral-less slob?

Have a good day anyway.

That sounds like me thinking - CA-MT

I've cashed in my soda cans and use the money left over from buying vegetables at the local market (cheaper) to buy a lottery ticket a week. For some reason my mind doesn't allow thinking in broad terms of fantasy. My main fantasy is actually having money to spend on normal car and home maintenance without having to resort to putting it on a credit card. Yesterday I looked at my dying water well pump and cringed, knowing I won't have the money needed to replace it. My Bible already has scratch marks on it. My prayer to God is to give me the strength to endure all of this.

pay cuts - Dede

[ In Reply To ..]
I am so sorry for you, and can totally identify. Although I have only been with MQ for 10 years, I have been an MT for about 25 years, but was acquired by MQ when the hospital where I worked outsourced us. It has been, as you said, an unbelievable ride. Not only was my pay cut by 50% immediately, but then I received actual pay cuts through the years (due to ASR work), and now we have just been notified that our pay is going to be decreased even more! I hope the CEOs, administrators, and even most of the supervisors are making plans to be buried in asbestos, because it's going to be very hot where they're going.

i think everyone at MQ who got a pay slash should - walk out for a week. whats to lose?

[ In Reply To ..]
About $150 for a week's work? It'd be worth it to me, knowing the Q would be losing far, far more. Especially if a ton of work got way out of TAT.

Don't think it would take a week! - Disgruntled

If we were to get together and stop work, I think we would put them to their knees within a couple of hours. Seriously. I think I feel the blue flu coming on.

Couple hours? why hurt them a little, when you can - hurt em a LOT by taking a week off.

I'm saying.... - Disgruntled

My point is within a couple of hours, they would be making concessions. BIG concessions.
You ARE right about that, but my sadistic side - would like to tighten the screws a bit.

Watch 'em squirm. Make 'em beg.
All that good stuff.

didn't work shift last night - North MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Normally I work a split shift but I didn't work the night part. No notice, just didn't work. I know I just needed a night to think things through and decide where I go from here. And yes there was a critical backlog in place. Too damn bad. Loyalty should go both ways and I am tired of always being the one to work extra or switch my hours or help out on this account and then turn around to find ASR is getting cut or line rates are cut or out of work once again. It sure is nice to know MQ doesn't think I am worth more than they hired me at 10 years ago.

I don't work for MQ, but I keep seeing posts about a bunch of horrible things they have been doing recently, so what exactly are they doing? And, this is a serious post/question, I am not being snide.

I worked for The MRC Group (under Sidney Franz) and then TL! Those were the good 'ol days. I'm in the same boat as you, praying someday they'll bring back the bonuses, pay raises, cost of living increases. I'm pretty such the Christmas Bonus envelope on our desks will forever just be a memory.

Grandfathered In?
Oct 20, 2009

How many of you were grandfathered in to this business? I do my own work for some local doctors, and I was thinking of training a newbie (very new, no training at all), but who I know is a good hard worker and is smart enough to 'get it', but I'm afraid that even if I do get her trained and ready to go she won't be able to get a job without an official certificate. Would I be doing a disservice to her and me if I grandfathered her into MT? ...

Grandfathered MTs
Oct 03, 2011

I was one of the grandfathered-in MTs who took a very big pay cut.  Is it legal for MQ to slash the pay of the old grandfathered-in employees but not the new grandfathered-in employees?  MQ has acquired 3 companies in the last month and I am sure some of those employees were making more than the cap at MQ.  Is this legal or do they make up the rules as they go along??? ...

Statutory Employee Vs. Traditional Employee Status Inquiry
Oct 10, 2013

I'm seeing more and more job postings for statutory employee status.  I'm trying to figure out what an appropriate line rate request equivalent would be since I would be responsible for withholding income taxes.  For example if the traditional employee line rate is 8 cpl for transcription what would I need to request for statutory status?  The same or more? ...

IC Vs. Employee
Sep 01, 2011

I have only had one long-term position as an employee for an MT company. Left to get some work out in the "real world" but am in a position to return to an at-home job. Possible That I May Be A MQ Employee Soon
Oct 20, 2011

Hi everyone,  It seems the hospital I am employed by may be outsourcing completely to mq. Rumor has it, if this happens then the 20 or so MTs will be going to MQ or not have a job. Can anyone tell me what I am looking at if that happens, trying to figure out if I should be looking for employment elsewhere.  here are my main questions:  1.  Is there a starting pay or is everyone paid differently? 2.  Is there a schedule or is it flexible? 3.  What kind of benefi ...

New Employee Help
Sep 10, 2012

Has anyone out there accepted a job but then not been able to work because of technical issues?  I accepted a FT transcription position, did the necessary paper work and went through the remote set up on my PC.  I trained on the platform for 2 hours and spent another hour or so beginning to learn the account specs and editing a few voice files, all of that went well. Which Is Better, Employee Or IC?
Dec 16, 2014

I am a part time employee of an MTSO. In California the min wage is $9/hr, which means at 0.85/line for editing my LPH must add up to $9, while MTs in other states may only have to make $7.50 or so to remain employed. My Team Leader said that is somewhat unfortunate for me; as a 1 year out-of-school newbie I'm not as fast as other MTs.  A few years ago I was an IC and I recall they did have a minimum line count per day but I don't recall having to produce more than ...

Medquist Employee

Does anyone else work for Medquist? I have been working for them for 8 years now and am getting really fed up with their unrealistic policies!! I swear 85% of the executives for that company have never even transcribed one report including my own supervisor. Statuatory Employee
Apr 27, 2010

Curious to know if anyone on this board is a statuatory employee with the company they are working for and outside of the company paying your SS tax and FWT, do you get any type of benefit, i.e., PTO, health, etc. Is it strictly just for tax purposes? Would you get a W2? Do you have to adhere to a schedule? IC Versus Employee
May 14, 2011

This post is not what you probably thought it was going to be.  I am not going to list the pros and cons of being an IC or am employee. It appears that MTSOs are "fudging" on these two classifications of workers to get the advantages. For example, as an IC you make your own hours.  There is no schedule; that is the nature of being an IC.  Yet these MTSOs want you to work a set schedule.  Another example:  You are hired as an employee.   Because you're an employee, you shoul ...

IC V Employee Part 2
Feb 29, 2012

As noted below in this discussion, it's been pointed out working a schedule does NOT necessarily make you an employee.   If you receive less extensive instructions about  what should be done, but not how it should be  done, you may be an independent contractor.  For instance, instructions about time and place  may be less important than directions on how the  work is performed.  ï¢ Training – if the business provi If you receive less ...
