Criminy! I wish they'd pick one and stick with it! - getting messed up

Posted: Jan 19, 2011

Since I can't get the same answer out of my QA, my CCM and others, I guess I'll poll the audience.

We DO NOT put the zeros on medications, like 4.0 mg should be typed 4 mg, right?

Do we put the zeros on...welll...pretty much anything else, like creatinine 2.0, temperature 98.0?  And no, I'm not new.  I've been told many different things over the past 10 years that now I'm just messed up, confused and too tired to think straight.

Some answers, I think - What I have been told

No point zeros on meds, 4.0 can be confused as 40, etc.

On lab data you do put zeros on the end because it basically is a place holder on how sensitive the study is, same with temp.

I got in trouble for not putting them if the doc said it like that - nm

Zeros - Old MT

It is pretty must strictly forbidden to put the trailing zero on a med. Unless there is some extreme verbatim account and the dictator dictates it, no trailing zero on meds (not 5.0 mg). (Conversely, you want a leading zero (0.5 mg).

But yes, elsewhere, because as stated, some tests are very exact to the exact fraction, and the zero is needed for precise clarity.

Thought BOS2 said no trailing zeros - and JHACO also

[ In Reply To ..]
Both of their Dangerous Abbreviation lists say no trailing zeros.

This is too confusing.

What a crock! You'd think they had more important - things to worry about than trailing zeroes.

QA bounces back and forth so much on that sort of thing that I just type what the doc says, and don't care whether QA likes it or not. They change so much anyway, that if they don't like it today, maybe they'll like it tomorrow. If a doc says "9.0", I type "9.0". If he just says "9", he gets "9".
What is more important. This is basis of MT business, either - for MT or MTSO, attention to detail. nm

Trailing zeroes, or lack thereof, have no bearing - whatsoever on quality of work.
[ In Reply To ..]
.
It has to do with attention to detail, and doing it how you - are instructed to do it. nm

Just because some pencil-pusher tells you to do - something, doesnt mean its important. nm

Who is talking important? Talking you do it how the person who - signs your check wants you to SM
[ In Reply To ..]
to do it. Doesnt matter if important or not. It amazes me the people that respont to posts who seem to have no idea what is actually being discussed. Comprehend much?
You are not paid to do it however you want just because it - doesnt affect meaning. You are paid to SM
[ In Reply To ..]
do it however the person signing your check wants it done.
I'm surprised most of those check-signing knuckle- - draggers can even read & write. nm
[ In Reply To ..]
Well, they can so do the job how you are paid to - do the job.

Only in medication dosages. They are ok in - lab results.(read BOS)NM

Thank you - getting messed up

[ In Reply To ..]
Thank you for responding. I feel much better now. I'm not going to put a 0 on the end of meds, I'm going to put a 0 on labs and temps if dictated and I'm sticking with it! I hated not putting 0 on labs because I always thought it looked like I missed it.

Same problem with slashes (/) and dashes (-). - Wish theyd make up their minds! nm

New Survey- They Can Stick It
Jul 13, 2010

Every time MQ sends out a survey they use it to justify a pay cut or cesspool or other "great" ideas.  They twist the results of the survey to fit their agenda and then say- see the MTs agree that ASR is better or they are sick of running out of work.  JMHO but I am not filling it out so they can use my answers to make my job worse than it already is. ...

Should I Stick With This Company?
Jan 04, 2011

Sorry this is kind of long, but I am looking for advice on whether I should look for a new job or hang on to the one I have.  I am a newbie and have only been working for about 6 months.  I was hired as a "statutory employee" at 0.0625/line with spaces.  Since they pay some of my taxes, I'm not sure what my actual line rate would be.   I work  M-F.  No nights or weekends required.  I have no minimum line requirement, rarely run out of work.  I c ...

ICs, Do You Stick To Your Schedules?
Jul 21, 2011

I'm just curious how well other ICs stick to their schedules, do you ask for time off or just let management know you won't be there, do you work extra when management asks??? Sometimes I feel like I behave as if I am an employee, but without any of the benefits. I'd like to know what the norm is out there. Thanks! ...

QA/FIESA....MTs Need Someone To Stick Up For Us
Dec 22, 2014

When on conference call about new compensation program, specifically asked if QA was going to get pickier and was told oh definitely no, they will not.  Well, I have found that not to be true.  One correction was a period..another a period, another a left out word (where the doctor changed their mind constantly they didnt even know what they wanted to say, so I felt it was a judgment call) it wasnt even a medical word or a word that changed the meaning, even if it is .25 points off tha ...

Do You Intend To Stick Around For ICD10 ?
May 17, 2010

For those of you who are currently coders, do you intend to stick around for ICD10?  Are any of you planning on getting out of the field?  Do you know what your employer has in mind as far as training staff for the ICD10?  Just curious.  I just talked to an HIM director who said she is worried as more than half of her staff has indicated they intend to leave!  Should make for a lot of jobs for new coders.   ...

Guess I'll Have To Stick With Corporate
Aug 18, 2011

I give up.  I've submitted so many resumes and applications that my head is spinning.  I can't help it that my experience is more than two years ago.  The doctor died and the practice split up!  I live in a small town where outsourcing is unheard of and the MTs work at a place until they die.  I passed my typing test and editing test with All-Type, had my interview, discussed contract terms, and the woman said she would send the contract out.  But she ...

Stick A Finger In My Eye And Both Ears

I'm on my 29th report for the day and I have not had one decent dictator yet.  It's been solid insanity.  The whole day has been filled with: 1.  ESLs.  They are saying the right words, but they're not pronouncing them anywhere close to correct. 2.  What the heck?  Everyone is yawning and talking.  Please stop talking, go ahead and yawn (if you can't find the pause feature!) and then continue with your hard to unde ...

Escription Corrections Don't Seem To Stick
Nov 17, 2014

I work on v 9, 10 and 11 and I have noticed that when I make corrections on some VR reports the corrections do not seem to stick by the time they get to QC.  I have seen mistakes that I distinctly remember correcting while I am editing and then they show up as not corrected on the QC reviews.  Thankfully it hasn't happened on post-audit but it is pretty upsetting.  I had my TSM check a couple of them and sure enough, the mistakes were there when sent by me, so either I have become a hor ...

Pick Pick Ding Ding
Mar 19, 2014

Two questions. Does anyone else have the little screen that pops up and says Editscript has been inactive for 1 hour, will automatically shut down in 5 minutes and then counts down? IT COMES ON WHILE I AM WORKING! I have NEVER let my work sit for an hour, NEVER! Secondly,I had an appointment last week so missed an hour and missed a few minutes here and there enough to be over 2 hours short on my normal working hours. First I received an email (ON MY DAY OFF SO I DID NOT SEE IT) that I must m ...

Looks Like QA Really Can Pick And Choose!
Jan 04, 2015

After browsing around in FIESA, I found what looks to be an instruction manual for the people who audit us and after looking at it, it sure does look like they can pick and choose which reports to audit, rather than randomly. I have also had the worst dictators audited more than the good ones. Of course it's easier to find a mistake that way and easier to keep our pay down! Remember 7 cpl is really equal to only 3.5 cpl if most of your jobs are VR. ...

I Cherry Pick And I Don't Feel Bad!
Feb 15, 2010

Here's the deal, I'm not saying I cherry pick every minute of my shift, but if I have done one after the other report of difficult dictators, then I will go in and assign myself 2 or 3 jobs to give myself a break.  I work directly for a hospital and I know that I am absolutely not the only one who does this.  I also cherry pick if the end of my shift is coming up and I find that my lines need a little boost.  I will assign myself some easy dictators to boost up my lines ...
