if unemployment tell you that you can't receive - me

unemployment because you got fired and makes you feel like a criminal, what am I supposed to do? I live in Ohio, but I did live in Florida and Ohio told me I have to call Florida to finish up my benefits, but Florida told me that they have to investigate my case and that I can't receive unemployment anyway because I got fired.I have no hope now and I will be homeless if they don't help me. I don't know, what do I do?

[ In Reply To ..]I don't quite understand your story, but can you appeal with Florida? Are they still investigating or did they close your case? Were you fired for performance or let go for lack of work, downsizing, buyout, etc?
Outside of that, start researching what other state aid you might be eligible for in whatever state you are currently in.

[ In Reply To ..]you live? No restaurants hiring waitstaff, no houses that need to be cleaned, no dogs that need to be walked, no one willing to pay someone else to do their errands or mow their lawn?
It's unfortunate that you were fired and are having difficulty getting unemployment, but giving up is not going to keep a roof over your head. Pull youself together and think about your skills. Waiting tables or cleaning a few houses can help you make rent money. If there's a Starbuck's in your town, they pay fairly well and offer benefits to part-timers. Costco pays well as does Trader Joe's. Even working at Walmart would help you keep your apartment until you can figure out what to do for the future.

As a rule of thumb you can't get benefits if you are fired. That is - me
[ In Reply To ..]not true 100% of the time though, but may vary per state. I would appeal, but in the meantime I'd be looking for work, even looking at temporary agencies. My DH was fired and didn't even attempt to file for unemployment. He was lucky that he found a 3-month temp job the next day. When that job ended he filed unemployment and able to get it until he found work.

[ In Reply To ..]You have to prove you were fired for something that was beyond your control. Such as, if you weren't trained to do something, it wasn't in job description or something like that. Even if they trained you to do something, but you couldn't quite "catch on" you can receive unemployment. If you lose, you have to appeal.

[ In Reply To ..]"fired" is a word - not a legal parameter for unemployment. In other words, the term "fired" or "terminated" means nothing more than losing your job to something other than a seasonal lay-off.
You have to have done something very bad to be denied unemployment (provided you have earned the requisite amount of wages in the base period to qualify).

But since I live in Ohio, I just talked to an Ohio agent and he said that doesn't sound right and I can just withdraw my claim in florida and apply in Ohio but I have to start all over again in Ohio. So those two weeks I claimed 3 weeks ago will be gone. and he said something about a combined claim where I get some from both. But since florida seems to be unwilling to help me I might be better off to just file for unemployment in Ohio today, (i lived in ohio for more than a year now). just an fyi.

It sounds as if some legal aid services are trying to challenge some of the Florida policies (aka roadblocks), but of course that won't be in time to do you any good.

Wondering....was forced to change from statutory employee to IC status with federal ID number instead of SS# when MDI-MD was rolled into Transcend. Now, Transcend informs that they are NOT going to be employing ICs after Jan 1, 2011. Has anyone applied for unemployment when you have run out of work? Just wondering, you can - even if you have work on and off, but not enough, depending on what your state requirements are. I can no longer survive like this anymore, work then no work - I have only made 100.00 in a week and a half.
