has anyone made the transition or considered - wondering

Posted: Jul 25, 2014

looking or working in the IME report generating venue?  I have seen a couple of help wanted ads for this type of job.  Where you would take pt records and create an IME letter.  I was wondering if anyone out there has worked doing this before and what it is like.

If it is that type of report - generation

that should be done by a healthcare professional. I used to transcribe for a doctor years ago that did IMEs and he got paid extremely well. It sounds to me like something else that will prove to be exploitative and underpaid. If you are considering it, I hope you have a long list of prepared questions to ask before taking that on. Who gets blamed if there are mistakes because of a difference of interpretation?

I second the high charge by the doctor for doing IMEs. sm - Feather Tuscadero

I think my former employer charged $500.

I did IME reports when I worked for a cardiologist. sm - Feather Tuscadero

The doctor still had to dictate what she gathered from the exam. I am not aware of a situation where an MT would create the letter simply from the records. There is literally a 3-ring binder of information that goes with each claim. The letter that I would type originated with a template of questions the doctor had to cover, and it ended up being several pages long. None of it was anything I hadn't heard before, but it surely was not something I would think an MT could generate without any dictation.

Has Anyone Made The Successful Transition To Coding/billing
Sep 07, 2013

I'm thinking about getting certified in this area. Mostly considering coding as that has the smallest contact with patients and I get to work independently. I had some schooling about 20 years ago for coding, have been a transcriptionist 16 years, plus QA specialist and editor. I just want short-term schooling. I have hesitated going into this field because I am afraid it will go overseas, and that no one will give new hires a chance. I know one gal who went to school for it and gave ...

MT To RN Anyone Considered Or Completed?
Sep 11, 2012

I am considering going back to school to get an RN.  After speaking with a few RN friends in my area I am looking deeper into the possibilities.  They recommended our community college with its 2 year degree program.  This school also works closely with a major health facility here in town for recruiting.  I have been on the hospital's job opening emails and along with multiple openings weekly for RNs (days, nights, and prn) and my nurse friends' agreeing there is a ...

Transition
Jan 16, 2014

How does one make the transition over to acute care with no acute care experience. All the jobs I see want acute care. I fully understand that. I am willing to make the transition if someone would give me a chance. I ran into this as a new MT back 4 years ago. I have clinic experience, but no acute care experience.  I'm looking for jobs daily as I lost my job 2 weeks ago due to electronic records. I need to work as bills are stacking up.  What companies hire for clinic work, wil ...

Transition To Third Shift

Nervous Transition
Oct 21, 2011

I have come into transciption within the past four years. This is something I have always wanted to do and finally found a way to get into the field. There does not seem to be alot of money in straight typing, and less in VR. I have always made incentive, but still - its just not enough and I work very hard to get that. Right now, I work for a company with straight typing only, no VR. I am taking a position with a company that has VR and it sounds to me like the position is pre ...
