has anyone considered - AliasMT

Posted: Mar 05, 2014

that this board has probably been the biggest success for overseas MTs?  I have a feeling we have been training them for a very long time.  word help, information about companies, etc.  so much information, it is probably like taking candy from a baby for those who are aggressively taking or sending jobs overseas...

Reply to, has anyone considered . . . - machine trainer

Unless we can train them to be college educated native American English speakers, I wouldn't worry.

Well - see msg

I think worse than that is that QA-type people are forced to give serious feedback to the offshore MTs. I had to do that at "one of the biggies" and it was no fun, let me tell you. My attitude was that I was training overseas people to take over my job. Ahem.

they never read their feedback - anyway

I know because I keep seeing the same mistakes. I wish someone would explain to them the difference between a referring and a consulting physician. Oh well it's not my problem.

I'm so stupid that I've done this more than once - and I just did it again

At one company, all the MTs were a number; no names were ever given to us. I think this was my first outsourcing situation, so I was naïve and didn't put two and two together. I not only trained my replacements, but I also designed and implemented the training guide for a particular account where I was basically the only MT working on that account. I was so proud that they had asked me to do that, thinking they must think highly of me, lol. Once the takeover was announced, it all became clear and I was let go a few weeks later in one of those RIF (reduction in force) phone calls along with 30 other people.

It happened again at another company several years later, wherein I was training people who would eventually replace me and again, the MT names were never given to us. This last time was just a couple of months ago where I designed a complete instructional guide and all the account specs for a client where I was the first person assigned to that account. And again, because my company didn't outsource, I felt good that they had asked me to do it and even paid me extra for the hard work. Then this week, BOOM, another company bought us out.

Never again will I share my secrets or divulge how I know how to do something on any account at any company... ever again. I guess three times really is the charm ;(

Has Anyone Ever Considered?

And we have to stick together on this. Emailing some of the crap that ASR prints out before we fix it to the head of this stupid company. And the assinine corrections that are failing us. You can do it anonymously with a fake email. If one does it, it does no good, but if we all commit to spend a week flooding his email, never can tell. ...

MT To RN Anyone Considered Or Completed?
Sep 11, 2012

I am considering going back to school to get an RN.  After speaking with a few RN friends in my area I am looking deeper into the possibilities.  They recommended our community college with its 2 year degree program.  This school also works closely with a major health facility here in town for recruiting.  I have been on the hospital's job opening emails and along with multiple openings weekly for RNs (days, nights, and prn) and my nurse friends' agreeing there is a ...

Is DSL Usually Considered "high-speed Internet"? ++
Jan 09, 2014

I've have had cable internet service since 2005, and since early 2008 I have worked for 3 companies that all required high-speed internet. I never gave it much thought because I've always had the cable service. But now we want to move, and unfortunately cable internet service is just about non-existant in the areas we are considering.  I'm very happy with my current position (and they can work with DSL), but obviously it would not be wise for me to move to a place that would ...

Need Opinion On What's Considered "recent" Experience
Mar 31, 2014

So I was laid off from the infamous MModal last August 2013. At the time I decided to give my sister a break, who is caring for my mom, who has dementia, full time. I said I'd care for her for a full year, until August 2014, at which time I'd have to return to work, and she was happy with that. Now I'm starting to worry that 1 year is too much time off to be considered having "recent" experience, which, as I look over job openings (not necessarily MT as I know it's a sinki ...
