Working for MTSOs, are WE required - to get flu shots when we work from home? - NM

Posted: Oct 13, 2012

.

You are kidding with that question, - right? -nm

[ In Reply To ..]

yes, we are exposed to so many people that we - could be putting in danger!

Better head out now...

It's not just about putting others in danger... - sm

it's also about employees calling in sick with the flu or having to miss work due to sick kids or spouse.

The flu shot doesn't guarantee we won't get the flu, but it does reduce the chances.

Why would you ask something like this? - SM

Did your MTSO tell you to get a flu shot? No? Then why would you post something like this?

To stir up aggravation?

"stir up aggravation"?? - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I read this as a simple question, so speaking for myself, it certainly didn't "stir up aggravation". I seriously doubt things like this get other MTs worked up and aggravated...sheesh.

Working for MTSOs, are WE - required to get flu shots when we work from home - NM

Seriously? I just asked a simple question. If you read the news stories, some hospitals are requiring employees that work offsite to get flu shots, even if they don't have any contact with anyone in the hospital. I don't understand how you could think my question was meant to "aggravate" anyone. Obviously it doesn't take much to aggravate you.

I think it is different for a hospital. They just - make it a requirement for

[ In Reply To ..]
all employees to get a flu shot. They don't discriminate. When you get the flu, that is pretty much a sure week of no work if there are no complications. They have to have someone to cover. It is very contagious, and in-house employees risk patients. I really don't see what the big deal about being required to get a flu shot. Unless you have an egg allergy, why would you not want one.

I had asked a doctor I used to work for if I had to take mine, and he jokingly said no but I just won't pay you guys. We knew that he would, but the point was we were exposed.
The big deal - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
about getting a flu shot is, it's my body and I don't want to be forced to get one. Period! Besides, why does it matter to you if I choose not to get one? That wasn't even the point of my original question anyway!
My hospital ... - none
[ In Reply To ..]
Requires flu shots but they don't force you. If you chose not to get one, however, you do have to wear a surgical mask for a certain period of time.
You are absolutely within your rights. - SM

It IS your body and you DO have a choice. You are well within your rights in refusing. No employer can tie you down and administer that flu shot.

But, if it is a requirement of employment, they are well withn THEIR rights to NOT employ you should you choose not to get it.
You totally misunderstood me - I am not sure where
[ In Reply To ..]
you would find me concerned about whether or not you took your flu shot. I personally don't know why someone would be opposed to one unless allergic, but I wouldn't go as far as to say I care either way. Maybe not your point, but I was discussing hospitals because they are the only ones I have ever heard of requiring an MT to get a flu shot and only because they require everyone to get one, never a MTSO. Who is this MTSO anyway?
As a woman - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
If I have the right to take something out of my body, then I should have the right to not have something put in it.

if it were, you wouldn't have to ask the question - nm

Those Working In Hospital What Is The Minimal Amount Of Minutes Required
Jan 27, 2010

I started this job back in April, when this hospital decided to bring its transcriptionists back in-house.  Small 200 bed hospital and they hired another person and myself.  We both have 30 years experience, but she is more so clinic specialty (ophthalmology) and myself all acute-care with 10 of those years working for MTSO.  There is no set minimum of lines nor minutes; however, the work is very much backlogged and now they are looking closer at our production as it relates to mi ...

Still Struggling With Required LPH. Sm
Dec 09, 2013

Have been on E5 for a year and unable maintain 186 lph. This is the first time in my 20+ years as an MT that it has been so hard to reach the required lines. Today I forced myself to sit in the chair and moved only to go to the bathroom a couple times, and a 1-minute stretch every hour (timed). Still only managed about 170 lph. The audio is pretty bad on my accounts, but still never had a problem with lines with poor audio at prior jobs. I do tend to double-listen now when there is a hitch in th ...

I work for the NorthEast section of Medquist and my supervisor wanted to verify all of our hours before we started getting locked-out of working hours other than our scheduled hours. I would like to know if there are any companies out there that do not require a line count per day or week.   I have been away from transcription for a long time, almost five years,  and I don't know if I could handle having to worry about that.  I looked in the Archives, but the info in there is too overwhelming and confusing.    Any suggestions?  Thank you.  ...

Med. Transcriptionists Required To Get Flu Shots?
Oct 01, 2011

HI all, I could've sworn I read this somewhere that medical transcriptionists - even the REMOTE ones WORKING AT HOME ! - are REQUIRED by some employers to get annual flu shots. Is this true?? Does anyone have any experience with this? I found it quite odd, to say the least. Also, does anyone know if this is true of med transcriptionists that work IN A HOSPITAL - this I know, that some hospitals these days are requiring vaccinations of all workers.
