Windows 7 with platform that requires XP - Kat

Posted: Aug 11, 2011

Ok here is my question.  Does anyone have Windows 7 Professional on their computer and use it for a platform that requires Windows XP?

The reason I'm asking is...I want to buy a new computer but you cannot get Windows XP any longer, only Windows 7.  I talked to tech support at Dell and they told me that if I am wanting XP, I will need to go with Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate.  They said that XP runs inside of that, whatever that means.  I am wondering since XP runs inside of it, does it make it compatible with the transcription platforms that require XP or does it cause any glitches.  I'd love to hear from anyone who has windows 7 and knows anything about this.  I didnt ask the tech support about the transcription platform because I dont think he would be familiar with a transcription platform.

I really don't know but I have 2 computers and couldn't use my new one with the work platform so had to use an older ancient one that had XP on it. I really want to work on my new one because it has more memory, is faster, etc. and would love to buy an all-in-one PC but they all have 7. I was wondering, too, about reverting back to XP on a computer that came with 7..if it's possible and how to do it. If you are super techy, I know I have heard you can run both OS's on the same computer by creating partitions. It's complicated and you'd have to Google to figure out how but I heard it IS a possibility!

Good luck!

I purchased a refurbished computer 3 months ago from TigerDirect that runs with XP. I only needed the tower itself and it cost me around $200. This was the best purchase I have made in a long time!

I had W7 Pro with XP - DID NOT work - ruby

They tried setting me up but the XP would not allow function of the USB foot pedal!!! I bought this computer they had approved of. Windows 7 was so funky couldn't make production. Ended up doing total reformat of my XP and still using it. I agree go to tiger direct and buy refurbished.

Sounds like what you need is a "dual-boot" system. With the new computers and the wonderful capacity hard drives, you just make a new partition on the hard drive for the XP system. (You will need original disks for the installation).

When you boot up your computer, it will ask you "Where do you want to go today?"

This has been the best way to keep business info separate from stuff I use at home.

Have fun with your new computer! It's going to be FAST!!!!

Windows XP - XP MT

My IT folks said my Winscribe/Allscript for their clinic will NOT work with Windows and XP. So I bought a brand new 17 inch laptop (good price) from HP and my friend removed Windows 7 and put XP on my computer for me as the operating system. It works great. It does nullify the warranty they told me.

My friend had to find and download all the drivers, which was time consuming.

To save money, you probably have to go to a used computer.

I wonder when the platforms will catch up to the new technology.

I have a Windows 7 computer but my platform requires XP - so my company installed "Virtual Machine" which puts XP on my computer. I just switch over to XP when it's time to work :)

Windows 7/XP - noyb

You can, but in a roundabout way. I bought a new hard drive and installed XP FIRST. I used Paragon partition magic free version (after i had updated windows and installed all drivers) to split the hard drive in two. Then I installed Windows 7 on the other half of the hard drive. This makes a dual-boot system; when you start up every day it will give you a choice of which system you want to use. There are even articles on the Microsoft website and the internet. Hope this helps.

I've used Shortcut for Windows for years always on a Word-based platform.  Now I am using it in SpeechMotion which is not Word based.  I need to know if there is anyway in Shortcut to set up a code to jump where I need to enter text.  I have normal templates in Shortcut and have used an * to indicate a jump-to field.  I had a macro in Word that let me jump to the *, but there is no way to set up a macro in SpeechMotion.  Any help would be appreciated.  ...

Jan 21, 2011

landed a job that required experience that you did not have? I am getting so very frustrated. I have a job now that covers maybe a week and a half of groceries every month. I am pretty new to this field, but due to a ridiculously long college program, I have studied for well over a year and I know my stuff. I test very well and I know what I am doing. All I want at this point is a job with work available, but all of the decent deals seem to require experience. I just need some way around this. I ...

Wage And Hour Board Requires OT Pay.
Oct 11, 2012

The U.S. Dept. of Labor requires time and a half pay for all hours over 40 worked in a work week.  (I think only if employee status.)  We are considered piecemeal workers and indeed are eligible for OT pay. This is to be paid at time and a half of your calculated average pay.  I think Nuance is good about paying OT pay as you log in and out on their time clock.  It is time we start including OT hours on our invoices.  You might want to calculate your average hourly r ...

Why Silent Type Requires An In-house Training?
Jun 20, 2010

Does anybody know why Silent Type requires an in-house training?  Is the platform so complicated that it can't be done through a Webinar or even just on the phone?  I've worked for a few places over the years, and there was nothing that couldn't be handled in a phone call with, at most, some graphics in a Go To Meeting type deal.  I just find it curious and makes me worry, like--if the platform is that cumbersome and complicated, do I want to work for them? Even when I w ...

Anyone Use DQS On Windows 7 Yet?

I want to go to my parents house this weekend for Christmas and I have to work.  They live about 4 hours away so I was just going to take my foot pedal with me and download DQS on my dad's computer.  He is nerd so he has this really cool computer so I am not worried about DQS not running on it or anything.  I was just wondering about how DQS runs with windows 7.  I would figure it would just run the same since it is internet based.  I just would hate to not be able ...

Windows 7 -- 64-bit And 32-bit
Nov 22, 2010

Can maybe someone answer my question. I purchased a new computer last year with the new Windows 7 home premium operating system. For the Internet Explorer, I have two icons, one on my desktop that strictly says 64-bit, plus there is an IE icon at the bottom of my toolbar that uses 32-bit for some sites (I think because Adobe Flash Player is not compatible with 64-bit OS, is what I was told by an HP tech person). Some companies advertising on the Job Seeker board says can use Windows 7, 32- ...

Windows 8 And DQS
