May I ask how long of a process this was and why? It seems we really are under the gun and many are being let go and not really given the help.

there was very little notice. 2 weeks of steadily declining work, until the 2nd-to-last day, when there was NO work. Not one single report. The next day, still nothing. My coworkers & I knew what was coming, and actually began to clear out our desks. Within 2 hours of showing up for work, we were all laid off. Oh well, at least my car was already packed up and ready to go.

You got the shaft after 6 years?? Well, think about how you would feel if you got the shaft after 26 years at a hospital that decided to outsource to India! That is what happened to me. Life goes on.

bob dylan was right.... times have changed. after 20 years, was told my job was gone. clinic bought a computer system that replaced the need for it. not good times for us mts.

Thought that after not having enough work for a couple years now and always chasing work, I'd now have a "real job" as an employee and wouldn't have to worry about a steady paycheck and paying the bills anymore. The reason I thought this was because at the interview and in their professional company emails, they use all the "real job" words: Shift, scheduled hours, overtime, PTO, benefits, etc. I felt relieved to finally have a "job." There is much speculation about the field of transcription - how many of us actually plan to be here 5 years, 10 years, 20 years from now. I realize that the field is going to change, which will contribute to your answer. Will there be enough transcriptionists/editors to fill the need in 5 years and in 10 years? I was sent a link to test for this company and was absolutely floored! I did the application form portion of the test and then was directed to the screening process, which was a series of multiple choice and fill in the blank questions (10 minutes it took to complete).
