Need a good site to look up doc names. sm - mtlt

Posted: Jan 31, 2012

I am needing a good site to search for docs for particular states.  I've been using NPI, but the doc I am trying to find is not coming up.  He/she has an unusual name and it is being dictated by another doc who is struggling to pronounce it.  The doc I am needing to do a search on right now is in Missouri.  I don't know the clinic.  I only know that the patient is to follow with him/her for diabetes.

I sometimes use the AMA DoctorFinder web site. You can put in all or part of MD name and state, and you can also do a sound-like search if you're not sure how to spell dictator's name. I have definitely found many doctors using that site. Good luck!

Thank you so much! :) Soundalike is definitely what I need right now. nm - mtlt

Glad to help. Hope the site works for you, too! nm - DM

Site for MDs - anon

www.nynpi.com

lists per state, by first name only if you want, and gives fax numbers along with practices/addresses/phones.

Thank you. nm - mtlt

webmd.com and also just Google. I type in the name of the doctor+state+specialy and go from there if I could not find it on webmd.com. Hope this helps and good luck.

This is what I use!! - sm

I do the same, except that I use a customized version of Google called Medical Transcription Word Seeker or MT Word Seeker that searches just medical and MT-related sites.

When you do a search using this, you get refinement links at the top of the results page, clicking on which narrows down the search results further to websites on the topic clicked. For example, clicking on "Doc & Hospital Search" refinement will show results from doc & hospital finder websites exclusively.

I put in the doctor's first or last name and specialty / location in a search query such as "Bradford * MD * CA" Urology and click on the "Doc & Hospital Search" refinement link. This gives me a listing of all doctors matching that criteria. You can do this with normal Google as well.

There are other refinements on there as well such as "Medication Searcher," which will show results from just medication websites and others such as "Medical Abbrev," "Dictionaries," "Do-Not-Use Abbrev," "Nursing Home Search," among others. To search across all sites again, you'd have to click the "All Results" button.

Thank you. nm - mtlt

If you know the name of the hospital and not sure of the doctor's name, this might help.

Thank you. nm - mtlt

Does Anyone Know A Good Site With Cancer Tumor Marker Information?
Mar 26, 2010

I am starting to type quite a few cancer reports, and there are so many tumor markers for the various types of cancer. I probably should invest in a new Stedman's Oncology but don't have the extra $$ right now. Does anyone know a site that might help me figure these out? On web sites i've found, there doesn't seem to be much consistency in putting in hyphens (like CA25, CA 125, CA-125, etc.). ...

Doc Names, Etc
Aug 11, 2011

Can someone explain to me why, if I get paid by the line, I spend so much time looking up doctor names, facility names, the local burger joint, etc, but I don't get paid for that? ??  I am going to throw in the towel with transcription and look for a job that pays by the hour.  This line stuff is a joke.  Can't get up speed or stay with a rhythm for stopping to try to find names of people, places and things. ...

Names On W2's
Jan 25, 2015

Anyone notice their W2 now actually says Nuance Transcription Services and no longer Transcend DBA Nuance... Last year there were lots of comments about our W2's (all of us, not just those who came in from Transcend) saying Transcend.  I even wrote HR to see what was up with that. They never told us about the change to Transcend and certainly didn't mention the change back to Nuance. Oh well.  Just an observation. ...

LOOKING UP NAMES AND ADDRESSES
Nov 12, 2009

Does anyone else ever have a problem with a doctor/nurse, etc. who sends out letters or just on regular reports who gives no complete names or addresses?  We have a place to go look them up but it does sometimes take a chunk out of my time doing it.  One or two minutes means a lot sometimes.  I have one doctor who dictates letters to "Dr. Smith, Dr. Jones," etc. and there are only about 10 of each of those listed and sometimes you cannot tell what the specialty is to look it up.&n ...

I'm DONE Trying To Decipher Names
Aug 14, 2012

99% of the wasted "down time" I have in my work day is trying to decipher doctor names, patient names, referral names, dictator names, resident/assistant names and I'm literally sick to death of it.  From now on if I don't hear the name the VERY FIRST TIME it's said it's going to be LEFT BLANK.  No more listening to it over and over and over and over trying to catch the first syllable or the last, or even a piece of the name - I sometimes spend 5 whole minutes PER R ...

To Capitalize Or Not...department Names
May 24, 2010

When do you capitalize departments?  I have been in the biz for 10 years, and my current QA staff is giving me conflicting feedback on my capitalization.  One QA manager is giving me errors for not capitalizing, the other is giving me errors when I do!  I was always taught that you didn't capitalize the department unless it was preceded by the proper name of the hospital (XYZ Hospital Emergency Department, etc). Do You Think We Should Guess At Drug Names?
Nov 05, 2010

Am I overly concerned or do you think I may have a point?  I think the Word Help Board is invaluable and have always helped whenever I 100% knew the correct spelling.  But as I have been reading the questions, there seem to be more and more drug questions from drug lists, which means no point of reference.  There are also a few “allergic to: sounds like” questions.  When I first started working as a Medical Transcriptionist, QA was always:  “Leave a b ...
