Interesting, thanks. Wasn't this all part of our own plan, though? - Fellow Traveller

You know, our collective decision to "get off the backs of business" by dismantling protective regulations so we could prosper on the resultant trickle-down? I note they're no longer selling patient addresses to anyone with a buck, at least, probably a direct result of HIPAA/etc. given the dates.

Read an interesting article today....... - Maybe not so great

One of those Yahoo articles that shout at you to read them. This one was about identity theft in the US and they listed the top sources of identity theft. #2 was Medical Identity theft. It talked about how they are getting your medical information using it to obtain medical care under your ins. coverage. You don't know it until you start getting info on the claims. It also noted how dangerous this practice is for you. They cited how you could go to a hospital with an emergency, and based on something in your medical record belonging to someone else who stole your identity, they could give you or not give you the proper care/medication, etc. So how is HIPPA working for you?

This is one big reason why HIPAA's being developed. Way late - is much better than not showing up at all. NM

Privacy
Feb 12, 2011

this is what I don't understand. I was reading the posts below about MTs computers and companies who have inserted programs giving them the ability to see what is on your/their computer. with all the fuss about privacy, why do we have none?  I had to have a background investigation for my job, my computer belongs to the company yet I pay the huge fee every month for the internet to connect it, there are probably all kinds of spy devices on it so they can easily see everything on the P ...

? About HIPPA And Privacy Laws
Jan 12, 2010

Is this more strict? or is it the same?  Am I freaking out for nothing new? According to some of those examples, I'm not even sure that normals and the repository are legal.  Doesn't it say that we are not allowed to save other records for examples?  And the fact that you can be fined if you ACCIDENTALLY see something or accidentally send something to the wrong doctor, which I know we have to be careful not to do, but what if it is the dictator who gives us the wron ...

HIPAA - Need A Quick Check On HIPAA Rules
Oct 29, 2009

Hi, I need a quick check on HIPAA rules.  With respect to the health care debate, I want to write to my senator, etc., about a situation with a patient I transcribed on.  The only info. I intend to give is that the patient was a:  Russian immigrant, on welfare and receiving Medicaid benefits--when he should not have.  He and his "sponsor(s)" was responsible for his care and living expenses.  Further, I transcribed a note in which the doctor said that this patient wanted to re-sched ...

FYI:  The one-stop for Texas contact, David Smith, is very prompt in responding.  He does indicate that Medquist has been requested to supply a list of names if and when any are laid off.  While not specifically addressed, he gives the impression that we must be laid off before we can apply. ...

KS OT Case In Texas: MTSO Has To Pay
Nov 11, 2009

There's a post buried below regarding overtime and a case lost by Keystrokes in Texas.  A KS poster (probably the owner) states "It is a lie".  It's not a lie.  Here's the publicly accessible truth. The link for the original charges is listed below this post.  The Final Judgment 6/19/09 is below and states that all Keystrokes employees must be informed.  These files are open to the public to view. -------------------------------------------------------- ...

Well, So Much For HIPAA Law
Feb 04, 2011

My husband went in to have blood tests done for a new blood pressure medication he is on and when he left the house to get an RX filled, the nurse from the doctor's office called to tell him the results of his blood tests. Out of curiosity (testing the HIPAA thing), I asked her if his potassium level was okay and SHE TOLD ME that all his levels were fine except blood sugar was a little high! Not only that, I then asked her what new medication had been prescribed and SHE TOLD ME THAT ALSO! M ...
