Attention all Primadonna MTS - anon

Posted: Feb 09, 2011

I am really amazed at the mentality of people on this board regarding testing.  "Geez my personal identity will be stolen etc., yet you are MTs and most of you use cell phones, etc, but have no worries about sending or receiving text messages and having your identity stolen, but you are PARANOID about taking a test  -- ie personal information being given.  Well yes, my computer was "hacked" but I do not believe it was from MTTEST.  If you go into the private sector and fill out an application on paper, they still ask for your SS#  -- You are willing to put it on paper where maybe 30+ people see the information. but not willing to put this information online?  People need to wake up and if you are using a personal computer from work, do maintenence on it like you would a car.  Have an antispyware/antivirus/defrarg program on and run on a daily basis.  Take the time and if you have computer problems, suddenly, invest a bit of money with an online tech to see if they can fix issues you are having.  I pay $20 a month for that protection.

The other thing as well are posts "demanding that we as MTs be provided information before you test."  In essence, that is saying that you want 10-15 cpl  BEFORE you even test.  Well, working for a company now, that pays well  -- however, taking some of the advice on this board and demanding, will get you NO WHERE.  I have been an MT for a long time, done QA, been supervisory, and I have seen shoddy work from old MTs as well as new MTs.

I hate to see what the payscale has become; however, again as well, the company that I work for, has MTs that say they will work and don't  show.  We have a lot of STAT work and in part, that is the doctors  -- I had a report yesterday, where it was an H&P we were behind TAT and they needed it STAT  -- we have to have those kinds of people  -- I was working on another report, checked my cue, and it was the next one up  -- I contacted my supervisor and told her I was working on it typed as fast as I could, and got it in.

Another point was with an MTSO who posted on this board recently looking for help.  She had typographical errors in her ad and probably with the responses as well.  She is a WONDERFUL lady to work for and I did send her an email to let her know what was going on and she responded after people referring to her "typos."

In essence, what I am trying to post here is the fact that there are 25-year-old people who are more mature than some of us in our 50s  -- quite sniping and griping and if you feel a company doesnt suit you then start sending resumes, most importantly a cover letter and when they ask for something they mean it and if you have to test on MTTEST then do it  -- if you want the job bad enough it will happen.  Salary is NEVER discussed until the offer is in place.

Since this is just someone's rant about MTs, shouldn't it be moved to the Main Board? nm - JMO

or read period this was regarding previous posts and yes, it does belong here. Might make some primadonnas wake up

Is this the same Anon that rags on MTs right and left - on all the other boards?

It's always the same old thing. We're: Primadonnas.
Stupid.
Too old.
Too young.
Underqualified.
Overqualified.
Cherrypickers.
Naiive.
Out-of-touch.
Whiners.
Doormats.
Clock-watchers.
Unprofessional.

And, not nearly as fabulous as SHE is.

So, (sniff-sniff...) I smell a suit. And if she's not one, and is actually an MT herself, then she's also all of the above.

Get a grip. There's nothing wrong with asking what - their pay scale is before testing. sm

[ In Reply To ..]
It's not "How much are you going to pay me?" before even testing. We want to know what is your cpl range is. Is it 8.5 - 10 cpl? 9 - 9.85? 4 - 6 cpl? I want to know that up front before submitting to a lengthy typing test, only to find their pay starts at 4 cpl, regardless of skill level after testing. If a company can't be upfront about something as basic as that, then imagine all the other things they'll likely be pretty shifty about, as well.

I have to agree with your post - SM

I've NEVER had an issue with a company disclosing the range to me before testing. I send in my resume, they email me inviting me to test, I email back asking the pay range before commencing to test, and they respond with the range. I've applied to numerous companies and have never had any of them refuse to tell me the range before testing. I'm sure they don't want to waste their time haggling salary with me any more than I want to waste my time testing for a position I know I won't accept due to the low pay. It's actually beneficial for both the MTSO and the MT to be open about salaries up front so NO ONE'S time is wasted.

Pay scale before testing - old mt

I believe in the other poster. Lets all bombard MTSOs with what you demand as far as pay scale, working hours etc. See how far that will get you - not far believe me and if you take time to read ads it will state "no phone calls" HELLO what does that mean ? exctaly THAT.

I agree, you should know how much before - MT

testing. I always am upfront before any MT tests with me simply because I don't need to go through the whole hassle of checking the test just to have them say no they can't work for xx cpl. And also, if I was applying for any other job, I've always known what the pay was or at least the starting pay range, it's never a secret. MTs go through a lot more than the average person to get a job and it's not so much to expect to know what's what before spending an hour or more to test. Sheesh.

Why bother asking anyway. Pay will most likely be 7-8 cpl - no matter what co. it is. They all pay 8 it seems.

I didn't read all of this little rant because life's too short to waste, but - see message

as someone who has recruited for two large nationals, your final sentence "Salary is NEVER discussed until the offer is in place," is simply factually incorrect. Maybe you're speaking of your own company or something (like I said, I didn't read all of this because of the unnecessarily nasty way you began it), but you're incorrect to use the word "never" here.

While I agree with most of your post, the last sentence - is completely inaccurate. sm

I have never tested without having been told a range for starting and then after testing, when being offered the position the line rate is negotiated upon.

To Anon: About the online tech service?.... - kiki1

[ In Reply To ..]
I hear you on your post. :)

What caught my attention though was what you said about an online computer tech service for 20 bux a month? Sounds interesting! I work for an MTSO but their techs are basically useless AND they act like I am BOTHERING them when I call. Any info you could give me about how to get this service would be greatly appreciated! :)

Please note the posts in re:  KEYS THAT PLEASE. This company *may* be legitimate but they are requesting as part of a test process files up to 32 minutes long, that I believe are *also* current files. A lot of newer MTs (and even not so new) may not realize this can be a red flag for scammers - people looking to get a backlog cleared up for 'free' under the guise of hiring for a true position. Could you consider posting a warning to all posters to be careful about t ...

Pay Attention, MTSOs!
Feb 19, 2015

Hey MTSOs, I think you need to pay attention.  According to a news release, Wal-Mart is INCREASING their minimum wage pay to $9 by April of this year and then no less than $10 by February 2016.  Pretty bad when a local grocery chain knows how to treat their employees better than you do...not bring then down like you do.  They are trying to shed their bad image.  MTSOs...I bet you dont have the grapes to do the same thing WITHOUT raising production requirements.  No grape ...

Attention UNM Manager - No Names Used.
Sep 05, 2013

Just need to let off some steam in case a UNM Manager happens to read this board.  So tired of all your perky little emails about how the team has to "pull together" on the weekends and show UNM "what this great team is made of."  FYI...this team is made of tired MTs typing their fingers to the bone, already having given up on reaching that bonus that barely exists.  Getting repeatedly warned about answering emails you send to us DEMANDING overtime responses, while ...

Question Before I Bring This To TSM Attention
Jan 08, 2014

This is my first time posting, but I hope you can be of help. Is the glucose in the CMP ever expressed as a decimal?  I have always thought it a whole number.  I left a blank after the glucose value where there  was a definite audio blip ending in "point 1."   I assumed this was the calcium value and doc cut the beginning off.  The account auto sends all blanks regardless of reason to QA.  ...

Attention California Employees

Nuance is required to pay for your 10-minute rest breaks separately and clearly display it on your pay stub.  You are owed 1 hour of pay for every day PAID breaks are not provided going back 3 years.  Their nonsense of stating breaks are figured into your line pay is illegal since when you log out to take a break, your production stops.  Contact your local labor commission.  ...

Been Paying Close Attention To My ASR Reports
Feb 07, 2012

not been ONE SINGLE LINE so far in any report that has not needed editing in some fashion.  Not ONE SINGLE LINE.  Usually multiple things in every line including stupid little words it leaves out, stupid things it adds, repetition by the doctor that it cannot discern, blatant errors of the ASR, punctuation, numbering, and on and on and on --- for 60% of my line rate?  If there are folks who have great ASR and can just breeze through with a cursory proofread, more power t ...

to the endless QAing is done. Do you read intensely, do you learn much, is it tossed, is it sort of a maze for you to go through? Nov 22, 2012

they blame it on the transcriptionists. I get told that this must be the way the transcriptions are editing the output. Are there really that may bad/horrible transcriptionists in the company??? I don't believe there are that many poor transcriptions..... unless they are using ILP's to train the ASR. Maybe that is the question I should be asking: Is the output so poor because you (the software techs) including ILP editing?? ...
