I thought MM was supposed to start another - sm

Posted: Nov 10, 2014

round of MTs to coders this summer/fall?  With the new CEO, are they going to quit doing it?

Did the first group even finish yet? I thought they - had some glitches and setbacks

[ In Reply To ..]
along the way? Hopefully those have been worked out so if there is a next group it'll go smoother. My gut still tells me that the MM education/experience is not going to be enough to sustain working outside of MM. Hopefully, the current group will be able to share their experience on this.

Experienced coder/coding instructor shares - experience on this.

[ In Reply To ..]
Your "gut" is telling you wrong.

You are not a coder. Neither you nor your prophetc gut know anything about coding or about what is required to work as a coder.

What you have are negative beliefs about M*Modal and, apparently, a need to bully those who try to better themselves.

The first time those inaccurate suppositions were shared here, it was ignorance. That was corrected. The second and subsequent times, it was obnoxiousness. It was corrected those times, too. Now, it has reached the point of malicious rumor-mongering and bullying, because it has been explained and everyone should know.

Based on the program description, the coders will be coders when they finish. Nothing M*Modal can do, or not do, will change that. They will have training that exceeds the level offered by AAPC-style courses. They should be able to certify easily. They will have the advantage of enough experience to get jobs just about anywhere.

Yes, this WILL be enough to sustain a coding career.

Our final benchmark will take place in January - HDS2Coder

[ In Reply To ..]
We don't know what will happen after that. It is "forthcoming"

and yes the above poster is correct, what we are learning will sustain us in the coding field. We are encouraged to become certified and will even receive a pay bump after doing so.
Slowly but surely, you are - getting there! Yay!

NM

SORRY, but gut feelings are usually correct, - especially when it comes to M*Modal.

[ In Reply To ..]
Not everyone can afford the risk associated with absolutely everything that company does.
And so far, the 'gut' feelings have been - correct
[ In Reply To ..]
regarding the M*Modal program. And some of these posts are not just 'gut' feelings. It's firsthand experience with the way M*Modal operates. It certainly has not been the smooth coding training it was supposed to be. That's a fact.

And the coding instructor who always resorts to exaggerations if anyone says anything negative WHATSOEVER about coding - accusing people of "malicious rumor-mongering" "bullying"? REALLY? I can't believe the moderator does not delete these as personal attacks. It's suddenly clear why they do so. As an instructor, the poster has a biased, vested interest. Sorry, just because the information is negative does not mean it's not true. And your name-calling and insults will not accomplish your agenda to silence those posters. The M*Modal program HAS already been put on hold, had software issues, had instructor issues, had course information issues. That's a fact, and not a surprise to many. Not because it's coding, but because it's M*Modal. Unless you have actually worked there (I gave it 2 years after being bought out, but got out and found a great job I'm happy at), how dare you call people who actually have knowledge you don't "obnoxious", "ignorant" and "bullies." Talk about the pot calling the kettle...
but if they pass the CCS - then it wont matter
[ In Reply To ..]
it won't matter where or how they got the training as long as they can pass the CCS exam.

Trusting your "gut" has always seemed like a foolish way to make a decision to me.

I am not the OP.
But they are committed to 2 years at MM and - who knows what kind of
[ In Reply To ..]
experience they will get with MM. Certification or not, I'm sure experience too will be a big factor in finding a job outside of MM.
No, they are not. Post below explains - that.

Only one year. Most people will only notice we were working - HDS2Coder
[ In Reply To ..]
for a large national company and were selected as a part of a pilot program. Most hospitals or companies don't know the internal workings of MModal.

Fool me once and all that - Believe it when I see it

[ In Reply To ..]
ASR was supposed to increase our pay, the rewards plan is anything but, the email system was supposed to be new and improved but does not work, we were supposed to get primary accounts but instead we are getting cesspool POD, - all promises made and broken by Mmodal.

So while these grand and glorious promises of a coding program were made in the midst of bankruptcy filing considering they have broken every other promise forgive me for being skeptical that what was promised will actually come true. The coder program has been delayed numerous times and that is a fact. That is not malicious rumor mongering or bullying, just truth.
Think you are missing the point... - coding vs M*M
[ In Reply To ..]
You and the poster above you seem to be confusing the coding ability that these folks are going to have with M*M itself.

Whether M*M is successful with their business plans is not the point, and that is what you don't understand. You seem to be stuck thinking the coders are only going to be able to work at M*M. Wrong!

Those new coders will be coders able to work anywhere.

Every time this topic comes up, you turn it into a "let's hate M*M" session. That is all it is ... a rant about how horrible they are.

But, this discussion should not be about that because what M*M does has NOTHING TO DO WITH THOSE CODERS' FUTURE ABILITIES OR SUCCESS OR OPPORTUNITIES. They are not connected to M*M at all.

Sorry that you can't see that.
So the new coders do not have to work for MM for 2 years? - Did I miss something
[ In Reply To ..]
You should probably have stated that these new coders will not be able to work anywhere, after they have worked off their 2 years, if and only if another company will hire them.

You seem to be of the opinion that the coding program is good quality and I certainly hope so. But I do reserve the right, based on past performance and experience, to not wage an opinion on the success/failure of an Mmodal program until it is actually done. If it turns out to be a success I will be the first one to apply for a second class.

But you are incorrect that Mmodal has nothing to do with their future success. It is an Mmodal program, they are Mmodal employees and will be working for them for 2 years after finishing the class. Their success or lack of it will determine future classes.

Sorry you can't see that the delays and glitches in the program don't exactly instill confidence.

If they would shorten the contract, then that makes me - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
think this will be a one-time thing & then they will eliminate the program. Otherwise, MM would make them stay like originally planned and milk them as long as possible. It would be nice if we really knew what MM's future plans are all the way around considering how much influence they have over the entire medical records field.
They have very little influence over the - medical records field.
[ In Reply To ..]
They have very little influence over the medical records field. They are not as big and powerful as you think they are. They are not particularly well-respected, either.

If they were, the whole bankrupcy thing would not have happened.

So if MM is not respected, who will respect their - in-house trained coders with
[ In Reply To ..]
only MM experience.
You still do not get it ... nobody will care that it is - MM.
[ In Reply To ..]
You still don't get it. You are still focusing on it being MM. That does not matter hardly at all.

Nobody ever asks where I learned to code or what course I took. They barely care where I work.

What they care about is that I provide (1) verifiable documentation from AHIMA and AAPC that I am certified and that the dates are current, and (2) documentation of the type and amount of experience I have.
Most people have not heard of MModal let alone know of their practices - HDS2Coder
[ In Reply To ..]
If they Google MModal they will come to the website and see they are one of the largest providers of MT services in the industry. That alone will be enough to appear competent. As the above poster said that along with certification is enough to obtain a position with another company.
The minute they finish, they will be able to get a - second job coding.
[ In Reply To ..]
The minute they get a certification, they will be golden. Employers will be lining up to hire them.

Reserve your right all you like. You are the one who is delaying and wasting time. You could have taken the AAPC course and been certified by now.
Lining up to hire them? There are plenty posting below who - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
have completed school, gotten their first certification, and still can't find a job anywhere. I think they've set your expectations a little high if you think they'll be lining up.
yes they will be lining up to hire us. There is a difference between - just having a certification and an apprenticeship
[ In Reply To ..]
the problem with many students who take classes and receive their certification is that they have no experience. We are receiving about 10 months of paid training plus at least 3 months of apprenticeship, then another year of experience working with our company. Personally I have no plans to leave. MModal has always been good to me and I enjoy working from home. It would have to be a huge increase in salary for me to leave the company.
Yes, lining up to hire them, offering - premium pay.
[ In Reply To ..]
These coders will have, as the poster above noted, 10 months of training and 3 of apprenticeship, plus a year of working experience.

They will also be *employed* coders. That little fact makes a huge difference. It means the new employer risks little in hiring them--they are already good employees.

They were also selected for a lengthy and costly employer-sponsored training program. That means they are better than good employees--they are highly desirable, trouble-free employees.

I would not compare them to the couple of unemployed coders below. It is very easy to tell what the MM coders are like now and will be later. It is not at all possible to tell what the jobless coders have for work histories, training, or certification. Coding programs and certifications are not the same. Some below took very short courses or substandard ones. You don't know if they are legitimately certified or not. A couple never tested, others have only the CPC and are completely ineligible for AHIMA testing, and at least two have "certifications" that are not recognized.

WOW angry much? You totally took that post out - of context. Whoa
