Andrews graduates, did you get a job? - futurecoder

Posted: Mar 02, 2015

I am seriously considering going into the coding program with Andrews soon. My main concern just lies in finding employment after I finish and become certified. Can any Andrews graduates share their experiences? Were you able to find employment quickly? Was anyone able to start working from home immediately? There are 2 hospitals in my town, but it is not a huge city, and I am afraid employment opportunities may be limited here locally. Anything you can tell me that might be useful would be much appreciated.  Thank you!

I am currently an Andrews student... - network, network, network

I believe that Andrews is definitely the school that will prepare you the most to get that first job. I personally am planning on sitting for both the CPC and CCS when I complete my course and am fully confident that I will pass. I have already joined many professional pages on FB and am planning on becoming a student member of both AAPC and AHIMA soon. I believe that getting credentialed as well as networking is our best chance in landing our dream jobs right out of the gate! good luck! You are heading in the right direction by selecting an awesome school!

AAPC - Good luck

Coding is your dream job? I think there is a work experience requirement before people are permitted to sit for the CCS. Those student memberships are a requirement, not a choice, if you want to take the tests. Lastly, does Andrews pay you to be their rah-rah girl, it makes me want to gag.

Wow. I sense quite a bit of anger & bitterness. NM - rutabaga37

Have to wonder if that bitterness is the result of those misconceptions or the cause of them.

Did you look them up and misread them or are you just parroting things you've heard others spew around here?

Student membership is only required by the AAPC. You can take AHIMA coding exams without it.

There is no work experience required to TAKE the AAPC exams. If you pass, they will certify you as a CPC-A. The A can be removed by 2 years of experience, OR 1 year and an 80-hour course, OR an 80-hour course and their special program.

The requirements for the AHIMA exams vary, but in general can be satisfied by experience OR completion of training programs that meet certain content requirements.

You need to look at the AHIMA website - Fact check

It is pretty clearly spelled out: RHIT or RHIA or work experience or completion of a program, I don't have a problem with reading comprehension. AAPC also requires education or experience to sit for the exam, visit the website and you might actually learn something. There have to be some guidelines or anyone could walk in and take the test. The fail rate would be even higher than it is now.
Sorry, but the post you replied to is correct. - Certified by both, so I know.

I have checked the websites and nothing has changed. I have sat for 2 coding certifications from each organization, so I am sure I understand the requirements.

You do not have to take a course for AHIMA exams if you have experience.

You need neither to TAKE the AAPC exams. If you pass, you still GET the credential. It just is a CPC-A until you have experience or a combination of experience and training.

You are obviously not a certified coder, or you would know this.

Questions For Andrews Coding Graduates (sm)
Jan 08, 2013

I have been doing research on the various coding programs out there and before I spend a large amount of money on training, I want to ask former Andrews coding students a couple of questions. 1. Did you pass the certification exam(s) and, if so, did you feel like the schooling that you received prepared you for the exam? 2. Are you currently working as a coder and, if not, how long have you been actively looking for a job and have you been able to get job interviews. I realize that getting ...

Home-based Work For New Graduates
Oct 29, 2010

Hi everyone!  I hope someone can shed some light on who hires recent graduates for home-based MT work.  I've been applying to every company I can find but most want in-house experience or 1 year+.  Not having a car limits my in-house work.  That's why I went into this field.  I've been looking for 2 weeks and have gotten few replies (all "thanks but no thanks").  I've completed Medical Terminology course with a 94% and Medical Transcription cours ...

Question For New Graduates; Seasoned MTs Welcome To Respond Also
Feb 13, 2011

From reading post after post on the New MTs Board, it seems like one of the main reasons a lot of people chose the Medical Transcription field is because they were lured in by the “work at home, when you want” dream.  But when reading through the job opening ads, any type of flexibility is usually reserved for Independent Contractor positions, and IC positions usually want lots of experience so the MT can work with little or no supervision. On top of that, at least in my opinio ...

Andrews
Oct 06, 2012

I'm considering Andrews coding, but would love some feedback for those who enrolled that had no medical or MT background. Thanks for any info you can provide! ...

Andrews Or CCO??
Feb 05, 2015

I'm trying to do as much research as possible into changing careers from MT to coding, and I've narrowed down my two choices of schools to Andrews and CCO (CodingCertificate.Org).  According to CCO's website, they now offer courses that will prepare you to take the CCS exam.  I've heard positive things about CCO, but I've also heard positive things about Andrews, and how thorough it is, but also that it's very difficult.  I would love to hear either f ...

CCS Without RHIT (Considering Andrews)
Feb 26, 2011

Coders: In a situation where a new graduate of a program has the CCS but not the RHIT, do you believe this would be an obstacle to finding employment? I notice some jobs say CCS or RHIT and some want both. I am weighing the pros and cons between attending a program that I know will prepare me to pass the CCS (Andrews) versus a program to earn a degree that will make me eligible to take the RHIT and, hopefully, pass the CCS. For background, I am a medical transcriptionist and also will graduate ...
