Andrews School and Medical Coding.  Is this a good program.

Hi Kat. From the extensive research I have done regarding Andrews for Coding, I would have to say Andrews is my top choice and I have decided to enroll as soon as I have enough money. Take a look at the Coding board to the left and you'll find a lot of information. Good luck!

I know Andrews doesn't offer financial aid - meggy

but hubby doesn't want me to take the money for the course out of our meager savings and I don't want to put it on a credit card. The cursory research I've done on financial aid seems to apply to accredited colleges and universities, not training courses. I want to take the Andrews course as well but I haven't had time/energy to look for other loan sources. If anyone has found a loan program to help pay for the course, I'd love to hear about it.

What they do offer - sm

They offer their own no-interest loan that gives you a couple of years to pay, with no interest. They used to have a program where you could get a reduced down payment by taking what they call gently-used books. You have to get on a waiting list for those though, I think.
Thanks! I am going to contact Andrews. - meggy

Between rushing the kids to camps and activities and having an unusually high work load this summer, I haven't had time to do much more research. (That includes, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc, LOL!)
Andrews School - Jobs - Kat

Hss anyone been employed after taking the Medical Coding at Andrews School? I looked at Job offerings and most want 2 years experience.
Yes. - sm

Several have mentioned on the Andrews message boards that they have.
Be careful about thinking student loans are a good thing - sm

You have to pay those loans back wih interest and a lot of college programs will take far longer and cost far more than Andrews, especially if they are a for-profit or diploma mill college. It is very hard to see the true cost of those programs. You do not want to owe all that mone at graduation and then find you have to start paying it back but that you did not receive enough training to get hired without experience.

All education is expensive. There is no way around that. At least with Andrews the cost is very reasonable, includes everything (even books), and is able to prepare you for a job and both the CPC and CCS exams. And you will not finish owing massive debt that you can never repay.

One argument you may hear is that Andrews does not give college credits. Remember that college credits are not accepted by all colleges. It does no good if only diploma mills will take them. If you do want to move on to college later, you will be able to use your coding knowledge from Andrews to test out of coding, reimbursement, med terms, anatomy and other courses, and it will help you gt through others. Remember that your main goal now is to get a job, not to get a nebulous degree that might take years and lead to no job. You probably also want to get that job fast, and Andrews does not lock you into semesters. You can complete it as fast as you need to.

There is a lot of value in the Andrews tuition plan. I hope I helped you and your husband see that.
Thanks. I dislike school loans myself. - We are still paying

off hubby's graduate school loan, but that is nearly paid off b/c the rate was so good. I doubt I will find a rate like that now though.
Forgot to add that I'm definitely doing - Andrews. Already

have a B.A., for what it's worth. I don't plan to go back to college unless I want to advance beyond a coding career.

Hey - just wanted to step in if that is okay. I am not the person in the above post, but I am a current Andrews student. I love it. Best career choice that I could have made. Reasonable tuition, great monthly payment plan. The instructors are there for you, as are the office staff. Great program. No regrets.

Andrews School -- Job
Sep 19, 2012

I am an MT who was laid off from my job and I am seriously considering coding school.  So far, I am leaning towards Andrews, they sound the best.  My question is, will I be able to find a job that pays well afterwards?  I have looked at a few job postings online in my area and it looks like entry level coders are only 10 bucks an hour.  This concerns me as I don't want to put out a lot of money for coding school if I am not going to be making much money.  Also, ...

Andrews School...which Course To Take?
Nov 13, 2012

This may not be the right board, but I thought I would put it here. I have been interested in taking the coding course through Andrews for over a year now. I was just wondering if that is the way to go or if I should take a different course that they are now offering. They now offer billing and medical management. I know that medical transcription is out because I am already a transcriptionist and that is not going well. Any and all advice is welcome. Thank you. ...

Best School After Andrews. Sm
Nov 08, 2013

I need financial aid.  Andrews doesn't accept Pell grants. etc.  Currently I'm on unemployment.  Been unemployed for about 2 months now.  Have been an MT for 37 years.  I applied for WIA funds (workforce investiment act) and included info about Andrews and medical coding in general, i.e., what it is, etc.  They won't pay for Andrews or coding for that matter because they say:(1)  Its a work at home job.  (2) Its an online program and they ca ...

How To Pay For Andrews School?
Feb 10, 2015

If I could choose a school right now for coding, Andrews would be first choice.  I was hoping that someone could share some suggestions for paying for the course.  Right now AAPC is having a "sale" on their course which is now 50% off.  From my research, though, I think that would not be my first choice, but is muc more affordable than Andrews.  Has anyone used any of the Andrews payment plans?  How did that work out for you?  The cost seems prohibitive to me, but I ...

Question For The ANDREWS SCHOOL
May 10, 2010

Does the Andrews School curriculum go beyond what the AHIMA teaches?  I ask this question with the following (in quotations) in mind. "One common misunderstanding is that you will be ready to take the CCS exam once you complete your academic training and that is incorrect. You will be qualified to sit for the CCA exam upon completing your training program. The CCS and CCS-P are mastery credentials and reflect two to three years of full time coding experience beyond the academic preparatio ...
