what the deal is with United Transcription - Faith

Posted: Aug 08, 2012

Does anyone know what the deal is with United Transcription. I have a ton of experience but obviously not good enough. What is it they are looking for or not looking for? Cannot find much on the company, starting to wonder about whether this is even legit or not. Please advise. Thanks.

Despite your possible outstanding qualifications, this company, as all other transcription companies, probably have several thousand applications/resumes submitted per day. It is unfortunate you would infer they are not legitimate because they have not contacted you personally yet.

The last ad I placed for an open position generated several thousand resumes within 1 hour; this for 1 position. Can you imagine the sheer manpower and costs involved to respond to ALL applicants for a large company?

Patience is a virtue. Please give the company time. If they are interested, I am sure they will call you.

They did respond and said they had no accounts to match me up with, however, they are advertising for ANY time, clinic work, independent contractor, all specialities and any specialties, so what would not match up with that?... I am questioning this because I have already been scammed by a few BOGUS companies, which I am getting ready to expose via investigation through our local news station. Sooo, I guess I am just a little paranoid right now... lolol Just trying to find out if there is any information on this company and so far there does not seem to be. I certainly do not want to feel as rejected as I do if it is just another SCAM, possibly connected with the one of the scams I just got out of.

Most company posts on here, people jump on them with information, negative and/or positive, but no jumping on this company at all, which makes me suspicioius. But thanks for your response.

Wow...funny how they did jump HERE right away when they had so many applications!! - anon

Sounds like scam is the wrong adjative here. You were just asking a question out there to any MT who knew...then here comes 'the judge,' and wow so defensive. Shouldn't she be going through those thousands of resumes instead? She should be counting her blessings. If something smells like a fish...it is a fish.

"...the sheer manpower and costs involved to respond to ALL applicants..."

Maybe if MTSOs paid their MTs a fair line rate and trained their QA/QC teams to be consistent, those MTs wouldn't be so desperate to find something else. This right here would reduce the "...several thousand resumes within 1 hour..." to a reasonable level, thus reducing cost and making current MTs happier.

United is legit... - me

I worked for them a few years back. Rather disorganized and only paying 7 cpl. I didn't stay long. Maybe things have changed now tho.
7 cpl? - oh no - CTMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I won't work for less than 8, maybe 7.5 if it M-F during the day and no ESL. There was a 2nd part to the application, a test, if we are not contacted, I am guessing I may have gotten something wrong. The first question about the large intestine was the only one I was unsure of, because it seemed to me that the large intestine did all of those things. I put that it did not store iron.

First off, in your ad you should state you have only 1 opening. Second, you can set up an automatic email response that replies to each person that submitted a resume...this would not take any of your valuable time, but would at least let the candidate know their resume was received and you are swamped in resumes. Don't forget - when you choose to post an ad that you have position(s) available this puts a "responsibility" on you to reply in a timely manner whether personally or by a canned email reply. Act like an adult and be responsible for your actions.

I agree - me

[ In Reply To ..]
I did not get a response back for a month after I applied, and by that time I had already accepted another position. I had no idea if my application was even received, so I didn't bother waiting for a response.

United - testing

[ In Reply To ..]
If United only pays 7 cpl, I don't think I'll even finish the testing. The first dr. s/l he's from India. The second dr. is pretty fast. The third one is faster. The fourth one is faster still. They are all fairly long with the smallest one being 3+ minutes. So if it's only 7 cpl, it's not worth it... too hard to be productive.

Testing - OldMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Probably the testing everyone is doing are actual jobs being done, then they say you are not hired because they got you to work for them for free. If a lot of people apply, all those reports are done without paying a soul! Think about it!!

I totally agree with this and have decided if I ever (sm) - Southernlady

[ In Reply To ..]
have to test again I will do no more than 5 minutes of dictation on the test. Do you realize how much free dictation could be done just by MTs testing? I believe MTSOs are getting more crooked by the day.

United Transcription - Faith

[ In Reply To ..]
Wow, I only took the written test and was told they were not able to place me with an appropriate account... Like I said, their ad reads ANY time, IC, ANY specialty and CLINIC WORK, so how hard can that be? Well, after reading about the dictation test and some of the other comments, i.e. 0.7 cpl [that is ridiculous].

Well it is companies like these that are driving the MTs to seek other careers, the day will come when those of us MTs who are left will name OUR OWN price, karma baby karma!

I always wondered if that was really going on - CTMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Think about it gals, lets say they are in a bind and need to get caught up fast, they know if they post on MTstars, they will get thousands of resume's and people willing to type these tests. I didn't bother with one other company because, the reports were 10 minutes long. thats not necessary, 3-5 minutes tops is enough to know if I can transcribe. Also, 3 reports is enough too. Its good we have our standards and not accepting this new crap they are trying to shove down our throats at 7 cpl. If we start taking that, it will be the new norm.
I think it's happening. Look at all the experienced, - highly-skilled MTs who are looking - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
for job, yet no-one seems to want to hire. A company posting an ad here and having lots of MTs "test", statistically are likely to get close to the same amount of accuracy in dictation as their [underpaid] employees are producing. They could get a lot of work done in a short amount of time, at little to no cost to them.

All an investigator into this would need to dig up is the electronic trail of the file, and whether or not the "potential employees" were taking their "test" on live files or sample files.

That would explain a LOT, in terms of the constant begging for MTs with "any" skills on all these ads, and the suspiciously low number of MTs they actually do hire.

Food for thought.

Hmmmm, is there a way to transcribe the reports and save them as a "read-only file", so they cannot edit them or send them on?

United - tested

[ In Reply To ..]
The dates in the test dictation were all old, like 2008 or something, so I doubt if they are getting current work for free. But the idea of working so hard for only 7 cpl is not acceptable to me. I need work and I suppose 7 cpl is better than 0 cpl, but if I have to spend my whole day trying to figure everything out, then at the end of the day I've only made say $25, I would definitely feel I can somehow do better than that.

It would be EZ to change the dates in the file so MTs - testing on them werent suspicious, - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
and then just change them back when they're ready to send to the client.
United - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
I also took the dictation test and the doctor dictating gave the date.
Save reports as a "read-only file" so they - Faith

cannot be edited or sent on to the hospitals and clinics. Is that a possibility?

Isn't that a HIPAA violation keeping the voice files - for that long?

[ In Reply To ..]
I was doing some reading today and I thought I read that you can't keep anything like that for over xxx amount of time. I could be mistaken...wouldn't be the first time ;)

They're supposed to send transcription test today. It's been a few wks since I applied so forget what ad said. Found some posts in archives and somewhat concerned. Too Bad The United States Wont Do This.

It's about time somebody starts this, or has the guts to make such a law and enforce it. I'd love to see it here.   For heaven's sake, I had exchange students years ago who came here from Europe who spoke a hundred times better than some of these morons we transcribe.  I believe half of it is sheer laziness, maybe they simply don't care to make the effort to speak better, thinking possibly that if good enough gets them through life, that's all the more ef ...
