questionable transcription job - a work at home mom

i'm not sure if anyone has heard of Neel Soni...but if anyone can help me out i'd appreciate it. i really don't want to take any work if it's just going to lead to no money in my pocket. it's happened too many times in the past and i can't afford to do the work and not get paid. ya know? i just need to know if it's legit. thanks ~ a work at home mom

if you know what state this person/company is in you can check the BBB records, if they are a member or have had complaints filed. There is also another site, it may be RipoffReport.com or something like that.

Again, if you have a company name that would be a lot better to post on here, you may find that you get more results.

Questionable Transcription Job - Neel Soni - garland

I have been out of work and placed my resume on some job sites. I did receive a call and also an email from Neel Soni. He was foreign and a little hard to understand but very nice and polite. His email stated that he was a technical recruiter for Future Net Group, Inc., which he told me was out of Detroit, Michigan. I did not want an IC position, though, so I did not pursue it any further.

Demand to have a contract; don't work on his word or on a handshake. (I don't know the man; this applies to anyone you work for.) Just as he checks you out, you check him out. Ask:
1. Do you have a line of credit at a bank you can access in case your clients are late paying you?
2. You do you agree that your agreement is to pay me on a mutually agreed-upon date. When your client pays you is not my concern or problem. I am not an MTSO. I am an MT and want to be paid regularly.
3. Can you give me the name of some MTs who will serve as a reference for you?

They play hardball with us---play hardball them them! This is a business. BTW, I was an MTSO for many years and was never offended when asked business-like questions in a business-like way.
GET ANY AGREEMENT IN WRITING TO AVOID MISUNDERSTANDINGS!

Would someone explain to me how is that this company can legally pay us a lower rate for ASR compared to transcription? Since the advent of voice recognition and overseas outsourcing, transcription has ceased to be a profession. I will NEVER -- repeat, NEVER make the money I was making as a transcriptionist at a hospital 5 years ago, before we were replaced by VR and cheap outsourcing to India. Now all that's left are transcription companies here in the U.S. that don't want to pay much more, lie to us and tamper with our line counts. GET OUT, GET OUT OF TRANSCRIPTION! ...

It seems that everyone has negative things to say about how employers do not pay MTs what they're worth and how they offshore the easy stuff, but pile on the lousy ESL stuff on the transcriptionists in the States. Too bad there can't be a general strike of U.S. MTs - a day without transcription - just to show how we're needed. It seems to be the only thing employers would understand. If anyone, especially brand new rookie transcriptionists, get a job offer from DIT transcription, DO NOT TAKE IT!!! I have worked there for about 3 months now and have yet to be paid.
