looking for a good company is like playing the lottery - all players buy tickets but

not everyone wins.   There are happy MTs at every company, depending on whether one gets a good account, good supervisor, straight typing, etc., or not.  Total game of chance with many variables.

That is the part so many refuse to face, a company name is not - a guaranteed winner. SM

If they get a name of a company, doesn't mean it's going to work out for them, or that they'd even be hired simply because they applied.

Getting a company name is not your miracle that you think it's going to be. Stop grasping at empty straws and use your head, people. I know many are unhappy and some desperate and I do feel bad for those.

Keep watching the hiring section on this board and look in other places as well for companies that are currently hiring. That's how you find a good company that is good for you, trial and error, like everyone else has to. It's really that simple.

This site has a "company" board for a reason - MT

It's to talk about transcription companies. These people who are scolding people for asking research questions make no sense.

Any more experienced long-timers on this board know that asking for good company recommendations was a common question and one that was answered regularly before these offshoring MTSOs changed the industry. People can and should ask this. They may not get an answer (I don't have one), but it is a reasonable, valid question on the COMPANY board of a TRANSCRIPTION website. If someone doesn't have an answer, then don't respond.

I personally used to answer with MxSecure when I worked there. Yes, even if they weren't hiring, I mentioned them and why I liked them. I wasn't 'afraid' that they would suddenly over-hire hundreds of MTs or have a computer system that couldn't handle email questions or resumes. Unfortunately, they have vanished into the M*Modal vortex.

So to those MTs who post on the Company Board to inquire about good companies, I agree that you will probably have few, if any, responses, but apologize for those who tell you that that your question is "lazy", "fishing", or not "allowed" here. How silly.

it used to be called networking, now fishing for names NM - anon

It's just that the MT industry has gotten so bad - JM

These days, if an MT has a "good job" they are almost job scared, because so many very valuable MTs are out of work. I know for me, I had a WONDERFUL MT job that paid higher than average and everything about them was just great. I landed that job with only 5 years of experience, so when someone on here would ask about a "good company" I would keep my mouth shut about mine. I had insecurity in the fact that I was not a long-time MT with years under my belt and I didn't want the company to have an abundance of resumes that I may, in my mind, have to compete with. I didn't want to have to worry that if I made a simple mistake, there were 50 more, overly qualified MTs waiting to take my spot. That company has now gone down the tubes though, like most, with pay cuts, changes in schedules, etc., and I actually left a while back.

I think MTs are quick to jump on this board and announce their distaste for certain companies, but most are just not willing to give up the name of a good company if they are happy there. All in all though, even if we only get to hear about the negative experiences on here, that still helps, so it is what it is.

You brought up some good points, however - nn

I see the same question being asked over and over as far as "a good company to work for." I like my company because it is all straight typing with no plans whatsoever to go to VR (it was tried and not liked), and it's IC status, so I put in as much time as I want. The only "negative," is that I wished they paid more, but that is pretty much every company nowadays.

Unfortunately, MT is not a "one size fits all" profession. Some people love VR -- I struggle with it because of a physical disability and I could never make the line counts that some of these companies require. If a company that I have had experience with is ASKED about here, then I will sometimes give a response. However, I will not share the name of the company that I currently work for, because I don't want the company being swamped with resumes when they aren't hiring, and I have been "burned" by people on this board, when I have tried to be helpful and recommended a company to them, and they turned out not being the caliber of employee that they indicated they were. If my company has an opening, I will share the information with fellow MTs that I have known for years, and communicated with in person, on the phone or even by email, but to just come on a public board -- no. I noticed one poster the other day who posted her email address here in response to a post and just shook my head in amazement that people need to stop and think that this is a PUBLIC board.
Yes, but the point - is this...

MT stars has had this board forever and it has always been used as a resource for information about other companies. If no one posted questions, there would be no information to refer too, which is the main purpose for the company board. So to try and discourage folks from posting questions about companies out of fear for your job is crazy.

I have noticed there is at least one person who seemingly patrols the company board telling everyone who posts to do their own research and seems like she is always one of the first responders.

If you don't want to give info on your company then just don't post. Sorry to hear you are afraid for your jobs, but you don't own this website and it's up to the moderate to decide what questions are appropriate.
Beautifully stated. No one should be intimidated SM - MTmom

against stating his/her opinions or sharing experiences, good or bad, with a company. That's why this is called a "company" board. The bully telling posters to "do their own research" should be ignored.
I see your point, but and here is an example... - nn

If I have worked for a company and have relatively RECENT knowledge of it, I will post when someone asks about it. However, when someone comes on here and asks what I and a lot of other people think to be a "general question," (i.e., who works for a good company, or who are the good companies out there"), that's just too broad for an answer.

The company that I currently work for just posted an ad up, and the ad received some "dislikes." Not sure why, but the only thing that I can think of is the rate of pay. My response to that is "if you don't like it, look elsewhere." This company refuses to do VR (it's been tried and discarded) and I make a decent paycheck, so with the few years I have left before I retire, I will stay where I am.

However, to just blatantly give the name of the company out, when there may not even be an opening and the company receiving hundreds of resumes from people that may not even be qualified for the position is bordering on insane. It used to be that you could apply for a job, and hear almost immediately. With the MT market being as saturated as it is, that is no longer the case.

It has also been mentioned by myself, as well as a few other, "older" MTs, that when applying for a job, to go over cover letter and resume with a fine-toothed comb. When I was hired for my current position, that was one of the things that was brought up was the fact that many MTs had both typographical and grammatical errors in their resumes and cover letters. Those resumes and cover letters were passed over.

Just something to think about.
Sorry, but I fail to understand what that has to do with - this discussion.

My MTSO is going under and I have been sending out resumes like crazy.  Either there is no reply or I get the "We decided to go with another candidate," spiel.  The reason I said all you lottery winners is not because I am condescending.  I mean it.  It's like winning the lottery to find work anymore. I wish you luck in your new jobs. ...

Keystrokes - A Good Company Gone Bad Sm
Apr 03, 2011

KS seems to be getting lower and lower in the popularity with emplooyees test. I worked for them once but left for the reasons everyone is talking about.  There was no communication. The owner was never truthful and everyone is afraid of her because of her horrible temper tantrums. The accounts are overstaffed - you might get put on another account but it will be overstaffed too. The only accounts that are not overstaffed are the terrible ones that no one wants to work on and it is imp ...
