Question for Transcend peeps...sm - wasHappyMt

I am due to start training on 12/27 in BeyondTxt. My recruiter said the platform had a built-in spellchecker, but Stedman's was compatible if I felt more comfortable using my own. Can anyone that works on this platform tell me if the built-in spellchecker is adequate, or should I go ahead and spring for Stedman's. It is not cheap, so I wanted to get an idea before I went ahead and did it. Also, any opinions on BeyondTxt? I am nervous because all I have done is straight transcription.

BeyondTXT spellchecker is geared for medical so would not waste money on Stedman's. If for some reason you do not think their spellchecker is adequate then spring for the Stedman's but would give it a try first. Also BeyondTXT has a learning curve, so also give this some time. The best thing about Transcend and BeyondTXT is that your teamleads generally are very helpful and there are samples for every doctor, so be sure to get the sample lookup down pat. Good luck.

would be greatly appreciated. I am coming out of MedQuist, so surely it has to be an improvement! I know this will vary, but what kind of lph can you generally do with BeyondTXT? Again, I have only done straight transcription, but I can average 200 lph currently.

I am excited to start. I've never used BeyondTXT either so I'll be learning a whole new ballgame. It will take time I'm sure to get lph up to normal while learning the system and account, doctors, etc. I will post my experience on Dec 20th though.

to not let yourself be overwhelmed with the BeyondTx manual that you will print out, which is what I did. LOL I had no experience with these platforms before and I felt lost. If you are having problems, ask your manager if there is anyone who is on your account who would be willing to help you, possibly even getting on IM so you can message back and forth quickly. This is what saved me. At this point, I have no problems at all with BeyondTx. They offer training for this as well as training to help you be more efficient with your expander, so take advantage of these classes, even taking them more than once if you need to. Good luck.:)

BeyondTXT is a real clunker, but the spellchecker is not that bad and you can tailor it to your own needs. However, be prepared to make less and less as you get more editing jobs and fewer typing jobs. You will never ever make what you were getting before on straight typing.

So I finished training a little while ago and I'll tell you this...the training is easy, the platform is relatively easy (especially if you have used any M-Modal front end such as Enterprise with WMX), and the speech rec is fairly good. Once you learn your shortcuts you'll be flying right along.

Oh and the spell checker is fine, you just have to add things like p.o. and a few newer meds like Effient and Pradaxa etc. No reason to buy a speller that's for darn sure.

I am curious as to if the TLs are meeting their requirements. They are expected to type 75-80% of their time and get paid by the line as well . I am very suspicious that they are not typing VR all day, having their work sent to India, etc, and are getting the straight typing. They get paid a flat fee per month for their administrative duties on top of that. I wonder if they are experiencing no work and looking at a blank screen most of their time& ...

I have read dozens of posts on the board about Transcend, some good and a lot not so good. However, I think there is an explanation for some MTs loving it there and others hating it so much. Transcend is a company made up of many other companies through mergers. The original Transcend who existed first, before acquiring other companies seems to be the problem. I was with the company for over five years, not once failing to meet the requirements of me yet I was told my position would have to change to 2nd or 3rd shift if I wanted to keep my job as there were no positions available for 1st shift. Did anyone else get the memo from Transcend (soon to take over from DTS) about the line rate change for the transitioning employees from DTS? It was elegantly written, but basically it said that when the accounts are switched over the VR that the line rates will decrease but productivity will increase and no cut in pay is expected. I've been offered a job with Transcend but it is part transcription and part SR. I've never done SR and have no idea what to expect or what I will earn. Anybody have any averages for SR lines per hour or work for Transcend and do SR and transcription? I transcribe about 250-300 lines an hour, if that makes any difference.
