About Transcend - Might be the reason

Posted: Mar 28, 2010

I have read dozens of posts on the board about Transcend, some good and a lot not so good.  However, I think there is an explanation for some MTs loving it there and others hating it so much.

Transcend is a company made up of many other companies through mergers. The original Transcend who existed first, before acquiring other companies seems to be the problem.  On the other hand, for example MDI/Transcend, for the most part does not seem to fit that description. You have to remember that MDI (for whom I have worked for 5 years) had one of the best reputations in the industry.  The managers, TLs, QA people, and fellow MTs were all considerate, courteous, and friendly. We still have them in place at this time.  My TL is a sweetheart, as was my former TL.  I was given a new account and the TL for that account is the same.  My trainer is wonderful.  No punitive remarks, no harsh criticism, and always a thank you at the end of my QA feedback. This is what made MDI Maryland the very best of the best.

I decided to stay with MDI through this merger and I have not regretted one second.  We are loaded with work and have the same accounts as we did when MDI stood alone.

Therefore, I truly feel that the problems with Transcend exists with their original startup company.  It is too bad that such horrible treatment of MTs, such as I have read on this board, is permitted to exist with management there.  We, at MDI, still have our ROMs intact who listen to any reasonable complaints and problems we may have (which are few) and they assist us without hesitation.

Unfortunately, when another MT asks about going to work for Transcend, they are probably going to be applying with the original company and would naturally not become part of a merged company, unless the accounts acquired would specifically be with, for example, the MDI/Transcend group, in which case those MTs would enjoy working with the same TLs, managers and QA people that are in place for the rest of us.  It would be almost impossible for them to know the difference and obviously they would not be able to inquire about such possibilities either.

Anyway, that is how I see it, and how it seems to be, within this large company that consists of so many acquired companies, all of which hopefully still have the same work ethics in place that we still enjoy at MDI/Transcend.

Now, I know there will be posts telling me "wait and see" what is going to happen to MDI/Transcend in the future, and there are many gloomy predictions that have already presented themselves here by other Transcenders, but I have also seen posts by other MTs whose companies merged a few years ago, who still insist nothing has changed for them and they are still very happy.

That is just my take on this whole realm and I am wishing us all plenty of work, fair treatment and a bright future with Transcend, now and in the days and months ahead.

Same goes for Transcend/TRS merger peeps - CrankyOldBroadOnTheBeach

TRS was a GREAT company to work for, and when we got bought out by Transcend--gosh, a year ago April 1-- (time flies!) we too heard all the horror stories, and we all got very, very scared. But the only changes have been very minor ones. I still work the same accounts, under the same ROM and TLs, same schedule, same QA team, everything. Oh, we did change platforms--but I like BeyondTXT a LOT better than I liked DEP, so that was a plus. I'm still doing straight typing, and my production has sped up with the new platform, because overall it's easier to navigate and work in, in so many ways.

Can't speak for the "original" Transcend and whether it was a good or bad place, because I have no knowledge; and as for where they are hiring, I know my own team has had a couple of people leave who have not been replaced as yet, AND we have a new account that is only half-staffed. I don't know what the plan is for filling those positions (other than the rest of us regularly being offered overtime while they figure out what to do) but it is not out of the question that maybe, just maybe, some of those spots might go to new hires......

It's also entirely possible that there are some poor managers scattered around in the company, people who are not suited for management but haven't figured that out yet. I know a former TL of mine went into management, and came back out again, saying it wasn't for her, and now she's just a production MLS, not even a lead anymore. For the sake of anyone who might have had to work under her when she was unhappy, I am very glad she made the move, because an unhappy manager can make your life very, very miserable. (Ask anyone who had to work under ME when I was a department head and burned out. I know whereof I speak.)

I am also aware, from some of the posts I've read on this board, that there are people who just plain have a bad attitude, and are not "team players." Naturally, their experience is going to vary from mine, and that of the OP. And I am, as mentioned above, also fully aware that there are some bad managers who simply cannot do the job as it should be done, and thus make their minions miserable. There are also ROMs and TLs who haven't learned the knack of managing their work pools and schedules such that everybody has enough work. There are also MLSs who don't pull their weight, and who are unwilling to learn new accounts and new work types.

So there's plenty of credit--and blame--to go around when it comes to the relative happiness of the workers. Sometimes it's the working conditions, and sometimes it's just the personalities and styles of the people involved. What floats my boat may not float yours, and vice versa. I am just happy to have a job where they don't bug me when I don't need to be bugged, and they trust me to do what I have said I will do.

I hope all that made sense. I too wish everyone the best of everything, plenty of work and good working conditions, and if it isn't working for you--don't just sit around and complain, DO something about it.

As always Cranky, great post! - Anon

New with Transcend. Is BeyondTXT the same as - mt

[ In Reply To ..]
Bayscribe? While I like the company and people, I hate the software. It is not nearly as easy to navigate at DocQscribe and slows me down. If I make a typo and back up to correct, it puts a capital letter in the middle of the word. Have to use my mouse constantly, whereas DocQscribe is all keyboard based.

No, BeyondTXT is NOT the same as Bayscribe! - CrankyOldBroadOnTheBeach

What you describe sounds TOTALLY annoying!

BeyondTXT has keyboard commands for pretty much everything, and they strongly encourage everyone to learn them and use them.

BeyondTXT is also Transcend's own platform, and thus, most if not all of the accounts will eventually migrate over from whatever platform they are on. I was nervous about switching over from DEP--but as it turned out, I like BeyondTXT much better, overall.

You might ask your TL or ROM if/when your accounts might migrate over.....
I did like the BeyondTXT platform - RLee

I found it very user friendly in all the modes E/B and typing modes of transcription. They also provide extensive training on this platform and you get paid training pay.

I feel the same way about Bayscribe - cwazywabbit

There are some things I like about it, but a lot of stupid little annoying things such as the ones you describe. Having to use my mouse to move the cursor down in the doctor lists or spellchecker, for instance. That drives me crazy and it seems like pure lazy programming to me. Not that hard to fix. **end of mini-rant**
I'm with you. Not a big fan of Bayscribe. - sm

I'm experiencing all the things mentioned above, plus when the doctor dictates something like, "The patient is a 70-year-old male with bilateral infiltrates", then says something like no, wait. Go back and say "bilaterally located infiltrates", when you go back to ad the "ly" on the end of bilateral, it will add an expansion. I have ly as a shortcut for lymphadenopathy and every time I have to go back and ad an "ly" onto something, it expands it. So that means I have to backspace to the "a" and then add "lly". It does that every time I have to change something by a few letters and that those letters happen to be shortcuts.

Like you said, not that hard for them to fix, but just pure lazy programming.
One thing I really liked with DQS was - cwazywabbit

whenever you typed "Dr." it would automatically capitalize the first letter of the following word, usually the doctor's name. That was a real timesaver.

VR At Transcend
Nov 18, 2009

Did VR develop Alzheimer's?  It has lost everything.  I am tired of no commas, periods, and everything else it reverted back to since its infancy.  It is really true that now you can transcribe faster than you can edit.  Does anyone even care?  Do you know how many times you have to stop in the middle of labs to put in punctuation?   This has been going on for over a month and I haven't noticed any big push to get it fixed.  Just another way to m ...

Transcend TLs ??
Feb 08, 2010

I am curious as to if the TLs are meeting their requirements.  They are expected to type 75-80% of their time and get paid by the line as well .  I am very suspicious that they are not typing VR all day, having their work sent to India, etc, and are getting the straight typing.  They get paid a flat fee per month for their administrative duties on top of that.  I wonder if they are experiencing no work and looking at a blank screen most of their time& ...

VR With Transcend?
Apr 21, 2010

I'm coming to the realization that unless I get faster with editing these VR reports, I am never going to be able to make the full-time production requirements at Transcend.  I'm really freaking out.  Is it really possible to do 300 lines per hour in VR?  How long does it take to get faster with it?    ...

Google Star Clip Itz Note Holder w/ Metal Rod & Alligator Clip to see exactly how much it cost Transcend per MT for this gift that bears so much thought and appreciation.  Do they really not realize how it affects their corporate image when their priority is placed on spending $600,000+ on a failed business venture versus the amount spent to "appreciate" the motor that makes their business run?  That's like spending more than a half million dollars to buy a garage to hous ...

Transcend....yet Again
Jun 05, 2010

I was with the company for over five years, not once failing to meet the requirements of me yet I was told my position would have to change to 2nd or 3rd shift if I wanted to keep my job as there were no positions available for 1st shift.  Two days after resigning I see they are hiring for 1st shift positions on a typing only platform which is what I wanted. I just don't get it. ...

Transcend/DTS
Jun 25, 2011

Did anyone else get the memo from Transcend (soon to take over from DTS) about the line rate change for the transitioning employees from DTS?  It was elegantly written, but basically it said that when the accounts are switched over the VR that the line rates will decrease but productivity will increase and no cut in pay is expected.  It is happening exactly how the posters on this board that have been through takeovers by Transcend said - decreased pay. I gave my notice already BT ...

Transcend And TTS

I have a phone interview with Transcend out of Atlanta and TTS out of New Hampshire today and next week. I've been working for the same MT company for over 8 years, but they're losing accounts and cutting our pay so I'm looking to possibly change jobs. Has anyone worked for Transcend or TTS? Transcend - So Sad

I have been with Transcend for several years.  I loved Transcend in the beginning.  The people cared about me, actually made me feel worthy and valued (25+ years experience) and I felt as though I was part of a family.  I was one of the highest producers because I actually ENJOYED my job.  My quality score, even with high production was over 99% consistently.  Something I took MUCH pride in.  In the past year, all of that has changed drastically...so drastically.&nb ...

At least when they bought my smaller company they didn't cut my pay.  Restructured it, yes, since they didn't pay incentive bonuses, but made absolutely sure I didn't lose money.  Nuance, on the other hand, just gutted me after buying Transcend.  MASSIVE pay cut that is now causing me to have to find a second job.  I already have worked every weekend and almost every holiday for the last 12 years I've been in this industry, now I get to work 7 days a week ...
