Transcend....yet again - am i missing something

I was with the company for over five years, not once failing to meet the requirements of me yet I was told my position would have to change to 2nd or 3rd shift if I wanted to keep my job as there were no positions available for 1st shift.  Two days after resigning I see they are hiring for 1st shift positions on a typing only platform which is what I wanted. I just don't get it.

I just saw on this board that Transcend is now hiring for people to type ERs and op reports. Why don't they offer these to the people current working for the company and put the newbies and the crap work we old-timers get now? I would LOVE to do ER work as I can fly through those. As for typing-only platforms, good luck. Those are quickly disappearing. See my post I did on editing pay. The Transcend editor is a mess and the amount of time I spend fixing editing mistakes, I can't make anything (especially at .04 per line). These MTSOs are a mess. This is why unions were started so long ago (and I am not a union fan), but I can see how one could get started when employees continued to get screwed by their employers.

Was your resignation effective immediately, or is there a window of opportunity where you can request to be put on that account they're advertising for?

I don't get it either, OP. Unless they're playing "monkey see, monkey do" with MedQuist, who for the past couple of days have been terminating their long-term MTs that make over 9 cpl, it makes no sense at all to me.

The way Transcend and MQ have been terminating MTs the last couple of days brings to mind a visual of a carnival midway game - Point, shoot and hit the target, ANY target, and make it disappear. It's just heart-wrenching to watch it all unfold.

I'm so sorry you and others are going through this. It's just beyond words.

I could see the writing on the wall for long-term employees per a few conversations with my ROM, which is why I quit in March after six years. It's just a shame what this company has become. It was a good place to work six years ago. I am now back in school hoping to make a good living doing something entirely different in the next year and a half. Oh and I was one of the highest paid MTs in the company as I was told repeatedly by my ROM.

I, too, saw the writing on the wall and quit on my own. I had been with MDI for years, made 11 cpl and thought it was a wonderful company. But then things began to change. For months before the merger my account had only a couple of hundred lines a day (!) and I was told repeatedly by my liaison that there would be a huge new account coming on in September. The same thing happened to a friend of mine, who nearly lost her house because she could not pay the mortage. Finally I quit MDI in disgust before any more shenanigans could take place. It was obvious they were going down Greedy Road. I am so sorry for all who stayed and I wish you all the best. Isn't it sad how a once wonderful company that was pro-MT sold us out for money?

It never fails: As soon as the Q pulls some lower-than-low, cheapskate stunt that further scams their MTs, within weeks (or even days), my company, and it seems every other company out there, pulls the same thing.

My suggestion is for anyone else who experiences this in the future to make sure to ask in email (so you have written proof) WHY they cannot change you to another account where there is a first-shift need.

I still believe, though I really have no concrete proof, that they are weeding out the MTs with many years experience in favor of the newer MTs they can hire at a lower rate. They will never, ever admit to anything close to that, but by going to unemployment, they may see a trend developing and refer to labor board. Even if you don't get benefits, I would still give it a try so it's documented.

I was terminated a week ago, and I was making 9 CPL, so there is a connection here. This has turned out to be a horrible company to work for, and I hope there is justice in this world for all the hurt they have caused.

You're not missing a thing. I just quit today over the unpaid HIPAA training fiasco, and being audited on work that had already been 100% QA because new to account - double whammy. I'd rather work part time for more money then supposed full-time and only working 3-hours besides, imho. Lost 100 pounds of weight off my shoulders!

I am curious as to if the TLs are meeting their requirements.  They are expected to type 75-80% of their time and get paid by the line as well .  I am very suspicious that they are not typing VR all day, having their work sent to India, etc, and are getting the straight typing.  They get paid a flat fee per month for their administrative duties on top of that.  I wonder if they are experiencing no work and looking at a blank screen most of their time& ...

I have read dozens of posts on the board about Transcend, some good and a lot not so good.  However, I think there is an explanation for some MTs loving it there and others hating it so much. Transcend is a company made up of many other companies through mergers. The original Transcend who existed first, before acquiring other companies seems to be the problem.  On the other hand, for example MDI/Transcend, for the most part does not seem to fit that description. Did anyone else get the memo from Transcend (soon to take over from DTS) about the line rate change for the transitioning employees from DTS?  It was elegantly written, but basically it said that when the accounts are switched over the VR that the line rates will decrease but productivity will increase and no cut in pay is expected.  It is happening exactly how the posters on this board that have been through takeovers by Transcend said - decreased pay. I have been with Transcend for several years.  I loved Transcend in the beginning.  The people cared about me, actually made me feel worthy and valued (25+ years experience) and I felt as though I was part of a family.  I was one of the highest producers because I actually ENJOYED my job.  My quality score, even with high production was over 99% consistently.  Something I took MUCH pride in.  In the past year, all of that has changed drastically...so drastically.&nb ...

At least when they bought my smaller company they didn't cut my pay.  Restructured it, yes, since they didn't pay incentive bonuses, but made absolutely sure I didn't lose money.  Nuance, on the other hand, just gutted me after buying Transcend.  MASSIVE pay cut that is now causing me to have to find a second job.  I already have worked every weekend and almost every holiday for the last 12 years I've been in this industry, now I get to work 7 days a week ...
