Performance Punishment - TotallyFedUP

Posted: Mar 31, 2014

Are there any companies out there who do NOT punish their good employees?  I have never worked a place yet where good performance is NOT punished.  We're the "go-to" employees.  We're the ones who can always be depended on, work overtime, do more than the required work, report to work on-time, and rarely or never call in sick.  We're the ones who are told we're invaluable, indispensable, and that our company wishes they could "clone."

Then what happens?  We get the crap accounts because no one else can handle them and far worse, we get a reduction...and then finally, an elimination of our incentive (don't ask me the reasoning for this; it just happens).

If I had a dime for every time I have heard that a company is "like family" I could retire and buy a yacht.  If they treat their families that way, then there must be a lot of family dysfunction in the corporate world.

Don't think of me as family. Think of me as what I am:  Someone who is putting money in your pocket.  Likewise, I am not working for you because you're loveable.  I am working for you to put money in MY pocket.  You're not a charity...and neither am I.

Enough with the lovey-dovey bullcrap.  Show me the MONEY.

Are there any companies out there who do NOT punish good employees?  Anyone? Hello?

I took every opportunity to put in extra hours every time the account was out of TAT. Never received a "thank you" but we did get a group email calling us "slackers".

love the phrase -- I've used it often - NotNewMT

"Performance Punishment" is a phrase that has been applied to business theory forever. Yes, if you are good at your job, you will be get the harder work and not necessarily be compensated accordingly. Myself and many friends have seen this occur, and it is not just in the transcription world.

Most companies will not even admit that we are even good at what we do each day. It is better for them to complain about us as a group. It makes the supervisors appear superior. They are not, of course. It's a figment of their imagination. If we don't get any positive feedback, then there is absolutely no proof that we deserve any raise (oh, what is that, I forget?), or any other perk.

We all hear you. We're all living the same crap every day.

Hope your week improves.

Thanks for your replies. I was having a bad day that day. Although my situation has not changed, I am better able to handle it today. :-)
I have worked in this industry for over a decade and before, it was the same situation.
My immediate bosses are great; I have no problems with them. Its the company policies that are weighing me down and driving me barking mad.
I am considering getting out of this industry altogether but I know the nature of the beast...any other industry will be the same story, with regards to how I as an employee am treated.
'Tis the lament of the working man.

Work Pools/performance Punishment... What To Do?
Oct 21, 2009

It has become obvious that a company is putting us in work pools, NOT to get improved TAT, but to either play favorites or to give the primo/better dictators to the MTs who cannot handle the crappiest dictators.  I have noted that I have had the same lousy dictators over and over again, no matter what time of day I work or which days of the week.   I never seem to get the ones that I consider better dictators, nor do I seem to be getting the long consults (which I also like).  ...

Softscript - Past Performance Is Any Indication Of Future Performance
Jan 30, 2012

to download.  That's frutiy.  Managment of workflow has changed too.  They have been putting H and P's that are more than two hours old through.  That's fruity.  Jobs come totally out of order based on job numbers and date stamp.  That's fruity.  They will never get it together if past performance is any indication of future performance.  ...

Taking PTO Equals Punishment.
Apr 14, 2014

Isn't it enough that they strip our pay down to near minimum wage? Using even 1 or 2 hours of PTO in a week will cause one's weekly incentive to fall. Can't they give us even one little break, like make the weekly incentive a daily incentive like in the olden days? Come on, CEOs, please give us a little crumb here. We're falling fast. I personally am down about $25K per year. How can that be? I'm a good worker, or I should say I used to be a good worker until FIESA came ...

Performance Management
Oct 12, 2010

I haven't been put on PM yet but fear I might.  Got an email that said I had a "low-scoring feedback report."  It was for using follow up instead of followup (I know better) and then omitting the word "the."  Now, I will own up to these mistakes, they WERE my mistakes, but by no means life-threatening in any case.  But apparently this caused my score to drop below 98%.  Now I'm terrified they are going drop my pay by 3 cents a line, and I am already in danger of not being able to ...

Most of us are typing for many, many different hospitals.  If you send out e-mails lumping all the hospitals together with helpful hints on what we are doing wrong and what we should be doing, where should we be filing these e-mails for future reference?  If we take too long to try to find the info in your e-mails, that gets counted against us in the Inactivity Graft that we have to stare at each day.  Unless you have a better suggestion, could you please simply split up ...

This is the 3rd one since being put in this pod. I liked the last one because she was laid back, calm, answered the actual question you asked and actually gave useful nonshaming advice. The first PC I had in this group was hyperactive, never could seem to understand or answer the question asked, always had something to say about absolute correctness, and never let you get a word in edgewise if you tried talking to her on the phone. Performance Metrics Coming For Doctors

Question To Performance Coaches And HDSMs
Jun 12, 2014

When we, the MTs/MMEs are dealing with a truly horrendous dictator that just about everyone except for a small handfull of people are having great difficulty understanding, why don't you take all (and there are truly so many) of the reports corrected by this small handful of MMEs and copy them to the Repository where blanks can be more efficiently searched for?  Are you going to say that it is too difficult to deal with the group that gets the reports into the Repository, just as ...
