Job with Synernet - grub worm

Posted: Jul 15, 2014

I am applying for a job with Synernet and will be testing tomorrow. Can anyone tell me approximately how many lines I'd need to type a day to make... lets say 80-85 dollars a day?  I'd appreciate any rough ideas please. I know that most companies have really dropped their cpl since I stopped transcribing years ago, but wow! It's gonna be a challenge to make some money I guess!

about 1500 to 2000 - jk

in my experience anyway...

Do you mean VR or straight typing? - SYNMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Hope they told you they are VR on some accounts now. At least you'll get the easy accounts and providers at first.

Don't bother. It's a huge waste of time. - Disgruntled SMT

The VR is the worst you'll find anywhere. Management does not care one bit about the MTs or about what's in their best interest. They are only out for themselves. All of us at Synernet are finding it impossible to make a decent living here anymore since VR started. The only dictators who are still on straight transcription are the absolute bottom of the barrel worst dictators, from the mumblers and whisperers to the heaviest of ESLs. Don't waste your time testing with them. You'd be much better off anywhere but here. I have never seen VR this bad before, and the platform is horrible for it.

VR - Team Synernet

VR is fine. Same as anywhere. Need more in the mix to build up speed. Dictators are better than the norm. There are a few unappreciative employees who still haven't left. Benefits are better than any I've seen. You'd need 1200 straight typed lines.

Always the benefits. That's always the out for - SYNMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Synernet. Benefits are being chipped away at though. VR is NOT fine. It's the worst I've ever seen. Dictators are getting worse and worse. Except you will get the good ones to train on and then never see them again. The employees are leaving, trying to leave, and will will leave and that is why they run an ad all the time to hire more. You will hope to get 1200 straight-typed lines in an 8-hour shift. You actually are required to do 1400 lines in an 8-hour shift. Good luck with that anymore. Depends now on what accounts you are put on. Also, better like mandatory OT to the tune of 6 hours a week all summer long. Might run out of work in the winter, but I don't know if they have that fixed yet.

Are you delusional? - KM

[ In Reply To ..]
Something is definitely wrong with you if you really think that "VR is fine." I smell a suit.

It must be lonely shaking those pom poms by yourself. sm - This VR is NOT fine

[ In Reply To ..]
I can only assume you must have never used any decent VR program, or you would not be leading your cheer about this awful thing we have been saddled with. All caps when it shouldn't, none when it should, no lists, no punctuation, truly a tremendous time waster to try to fix all of the mistakes. I would rather do straight typing, but I realize VR is a part of the mix nowadays. I am by no means an expert, but I have used Editscript and Anymodal and this Speech Magic is truly the worst I have ever seen.
And the statement about 1200 lines is a flat outlie - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
It is 1400
OP asked how many lines to make $80-$85 a day - how is 1200 straight typing a lie?
[ In Reply To ..]
Gosh, don't be so mean and hateful. Let OP decide if whether or not she wants to work for Synernet.

Good Luck - Team Synernet

Good luck with your testing grub worm. Synernet is a good company. Yes, I have my issues but they are minor in comparison to what i used to deal with. Will assume the hate section is most likely one person, everyone is fed up with her but most likely noone else will hire her. If i hated my job that bad, wouldn't it be time to move on? Have a great day everyone, hopefully you find some peace within.

Thirteen dislikes to your post below equals 1 person? nm - LOL

You can only like or dislike a post once from your IP address, so it's definitely A LOT more than one person!

Thank you! - Grub Worm

[ In Reply To ..]
I kinda figured I'd have to read through the hate mail, but I'm excited and just wanted a real answer, not to get a slam bash started. I know that most MT companies are not giving ideal pay, but its a good fit for me, a gal who is still in school and needs some gas money and book money. Thank you for posting, at great risk to your self! LOL!! have a great day, I know I will! Sun is shining, nothing holds you back but yourself!

Hey Grub Worm, you're welcome. Let's - TiredMT

talk again in about 6 months to a year. Good luck to you. Hope your schooling doesn't take up too much of your time.
haha! - smh

M E O W much? If you're tired, take a nap!

You are wrong. I do not hate Synernet. Just because I want them to change sm - Realistic SMT

[ In Reply To ..]
the things they can change does not mean I'm unhappy, and I grow weary of your solution to everything, "love it or leave it." If people do not speak up about things they feel to be unfair or unjust then I suppose they deserve whatever they get.

The benefits ARE great, as far as insurance and time off -- no question there. But that doesn't mean I have to sit with a big grin on my face when they take away a big chunk of my income. From what I am told, the stinky VR CAN be tweaked so that it operates in a much more MT-friendly manner, so yes, I do bug J about it and I have voiced my concerns to V and T. To sit here and say "the VR is fine" is a load of rubbish.

If you think there are not troubles of a major sort going on, ask yourself why the team leads keep leaving and even T is leaving the management position. To sit along blindly faithful, questioning nothing, sets you up to be smacked in the head with a big surprise when something happens.

Personally, I am glad you are so happy with your job. That is as it should be. Synernet is not the worst place on earth to work, no argument there, but they should not lose sight of their most valuable asset, which are the employees.

Just for the record, you should not give out misinformation. The requirement is 175 lph straight typing (1400 lines per day, not 1200) or 250 lph speech (2000 lines).

Answered Correctly - Team Synernet

[ In Reply To ..]
"Can anyone tell me approximately how many lines I'd need to type a day to make... lets say 80-85 dollars a day?" - that was the question, answered correctly. She didn't ask what the lines per hour requirements were, she asked how many lines she needed to make 80- 85 dollars a day. Seems the environment is continuously changing and Synernet is trying to make the adjustments to compete? I'll wait it out. When it fails (undoubtedly the MT field will never be as it was) I will be a waitress. If this forum addressed all careers in the world, then transcription sucks. If you're comparing MT companies, Synernet is OK.
If she does not make the minimum requirement, it does not matter. nm - She will not be staying

Props for answering correctly? - Team Synernet
[ In Reply To ..]
Come on sour pants, can I get props for answering the question correctly? I made no assumptions of how many hours she wanted to work per day only what she wanted to earn.
Have a great night, I hope your bed has two right sides tomorrow.
I am curious, as a waitress, if the customer does not like how his food is prepared, sm - Realistic SMT
[ In Reply To ..]
will you tell him to quit complaining and go to another restaurant? Good luck with that career choice.
I don't work at Synernet, but your analogy is off - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
If the waitress (the employee) isn't treated properly and complains about it, then her peers might suggest she would be better served by finding another employer.

Now, the client, or the customer, will find a better place if the service is not satisfactory.

Synernet???
Jun 27, 2012

I have an interview with them coming up. They seem like they have a good reputation and the benefits look really good. One thing I am wondering about them is just how flexible are the schedules? For example, right now I am able to work a regular 2nd shift position with no problem (I currently work 2nd shift and prefer it to other shifts), but when school starts my kids will have sports and Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts and I have to take them to their meetings. The place I currently work at, they ...

Synernet At It Again
Jan 30, 2014

First the dire email: Mandatory OT by end of week with at least 2 hours on Saturday. Just forget if you had plans for the weekend. Say what time you will be working and have to work those hours and put who okay'd those hours on your timesheet (you might lie you know). So you do that because you want to help the company out and it's nice to have OT again. So today, email, oops, some people cleaned up all the work so no OT today, but still MIGHT have it on Fri and Sat. Just stay tuned a ...
