that averages to about 8-8.5 cpl without spaces based on prior posts. Hate VBC pay.

It's about 8 cpl with spaces - I get 10 cpl without spaces...sm

for one of my accounts. Being 8 cpl with spaces is average, I'm not excited about being paid 10 cpl without spaces, but that's what I get for staying in this field. :--(

The last I heard, the space bar is still a part of the keyboard, and our thumbs are still a part of our hands. Not paying for spaces is a rip-off. If my company were to stop paying for spaces, I would stop typing them.

After all, you get what you pay for.

I worked VBC for 2 years at 9 cents per line. It was not the fact that I was only actually getting paid 7.5 but the TIME involved. I liked the company, and I liked the account, but having to type 1000 lines EVERY day (no ifs, ands or buts) as an IC (with no benefits, rewards or time off for good behavior) really took its toll on me. That turns out to be 1200-1300 lines per day at 7 to 7.5 per line. Just time consuming. With the mandatory weekly and weekend overtime (no pay incentive) I just could not handle the stress anymore.

1000 lines a day VBC is actually about 1200-1300 lines typed per day. That is about a whole day's worth of typing just to account for the spaces. This was with a decent account, too, and I just could not justify it 1 more second.

NOT PAYING FOR SPACES IS CRAZY! I would tell them if they want a space, they better pay for it.

I wish someone would explain to me why hitting the letter "a," for example, is labor deserving of compensation and why hitting the space bar is not. A space between words is as necessary as the words the space is separating.

Maybe there should be National MT ONEBIGWORD Day, where all MT's who are not compensated for hitting the space bar don't hit the space bar.

I always laugh at the "no spaces" replies - just funny to see a sentence that way

It really would get the point across!

Jobs Where You're Not Paid For Spaces...
Jun 27, 2011

Please don't take a job where you're not paid for spaces. You are better than that and deserve more. It takes a good chunk out of your pay, especially when these MT companies don't pay you much anyway. If you have to do it out of desperation, please keep your eye on another job where you ARE paid for spaces and take it the first chance you get.  Just a piece of friendly advice. ...

Seeing A New Influx Of VBC Or Being Paid For No Spaces
Jul 22, 2011

Not sure if it helps to know or not but if you are doing VR, it's 99% likely you are NOT being paid for spaces.  Afterall, you're not PRODUCING the spaces.  And since most of the transcribed work is still done in the same application as the VR work, you dont get paid spaces for transcribed work. You should be getting paid a higher line rate, however, for what you produce from scratch (and I mean higher than 8 or 9).  But this is where I see services taking advantage, by ...

Paid For Spaces Versus Black Character Only
Apr 05, 2010

Just as an experiment...With Saince I typed about 12-13 reports, typed one that was 18 minutes long in the midst of the others.  It equaled a little over 400 lines (it was under 420). Now, with a job that pays for spaces, I typed one report 12 min long - 126 lines.  Typing 10 reports, I hit 424 lines. The Saince reports were standard type, most 1-1/2 to 2 pages long...ONLY 400 lines???  Most of the ones I just did this morning for another company were mostly 1 page long, VR, dis ...

Just curious, I'm trying to decide between a few companies and I totally forgot to ask the interviewer.  I think the whole VBC thing is criminal.  It's bad enough not being paid for all of the research, demographics and CCs we do, but to not pay for characters that we actually type just because they don't print out in black and white is OUTRAGEOUS!!!  ...

Free Spaces
