Voice recognition - less money per line, but less lines to type! - Looking forward to it

Just accepted a position that is mostly VR.  I am looking forward to it because I figure, less money per line, but less lines to type!  Am I wrong?  I mean, shouldn't you be able to do more using VR?  Just curious as to opinions.  Because I'm all for it if it means less typing.  Thanks!

if you have a good platform (eScription is my preference) then yes you will have less lines to type. If you get on an account that has been on VR for a while your drafts should come through really good and you should not have to do much editing. If the accounts are new, you will have more straight typing of full reports, and also the drafts won't come through very accurate. Did they happen to tell you how much was VR (meaning how much is recognized) and what platform?

I can tell you that ProScript's M*Modal isn't tweaked properly, if at all. - SM

So, if you're working anywhere else you might have a fighting chance, but M*Modal under ProScript's mismanagement is absolutely horrid and you'll be fighting it all day long.

Hopefully, your M*Modal experience will be better. Good luck.

I can tell you that I started a job at Focus 2 weeks ago on the Dictaphone platform and I actually really like it. If it is managed correctly, the platform learns and the longer an account is on it, the better the drafts come out. I like not having really sore hands and arms at the end of the day. I'm still working on picking up my speed and remember the 30 pages of the account specifics, so I'm still slow and not making much $$ just yet.

Different companies have different ways of managing their software, though, so everyone's experience is going to be different.

Exactly. It's not M-Modal that can be the problem, it's - how they manage it

Right now I work doing transcription but have never had to type a certain number of lines per day.  We just have to have our work done in a timely manner.....24-48 hours.  I am looking at taking a job where they require 1000-1200 lines per day working FT hours and am curious how long that would take typically?  I am not the fastest typist in the world and don't want to get in over my head.  If I can't work overtime and need to get that many lines done, it concerns me.  For tho ...

I'm infuriated that the quota to keep benefits is the same as it was before voice recognition.   I'm KILLING myself to try to keep up to maintain health insurance and just can't do it.  With 96% plus voice recognition reports and half pay from straight typing, I'm losing health care benefits.  SO UNFAIR!!! ...

Have to learn VR soon.  What if a report comes to you and there were no corrections to be made, does MT still get paid for the lines on the report or do you only get paid for straight typing and then if report has errors you just get paid for those corrections.  Never done VR before and for some reason they make it sound so easy.   ...

Does anyone know if the voice recognition part of EPIC is like eScription?  During the short period of time I had to use eScription, we were not allowed to recast sentences, etc.  I honestly don't know how we are going to handle the ESLs when we move to that platform.  We have been doing straight typing but I have to recast a lot of sentences.  I guess in order to train the VR system I will have to transcribe the ESLs verbatim and those documents will not make a whole lo ...
