Speech recognition and voice recognition considered the same?
Where can I get training for editing? - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Seems that's all that's out there now and i've never done it and nobody wants to train on it. Is there somewhere that offers schooling/training online, besides career step? I don't want to pay that much as I am already an experienced MT. Thanks in advance for any info
On Your Job - MT

If you take a job that has ASR, they will likely train you on it. It's not complicated, just annoyingly annoying.
On the job. - Not any special training.

You listen and edit.
It's terribly boring and if the company you work for has a bad ASR system, it can make your life he**.
Actually, my company, Webmedx, is becoming - even more proactive than before.

I agree that MTs should be able to just start editing without special training, certainly no need to rush back to school for classes; however, it turns out many, presumably already typing too fast for the dictation to keep up with, had not been using a lot of the navigation and other standard keystrokes that now become a lot more important.
So previously my company offered some basic transcription and editing classes one could sign up for, but lately they've stepped up efforts even more to help people increase their line counts, especially in editing. Even though much of the effort has been focused on encouraging people to those basic keystroke combos they should have brought to their work long ago, there is now more that is useful for people with greater proficiency.
Most particularly, computer analyses of our keystrokes are posted for all of us anonymously that show which keystroke functions we're using well and which not, and there are a slew of analyses showing how we compare on each to an optimal use as well as to others doing this work. Like on average how long a person takes to edit one minute of dictation or our "rewind" average. All this info is extremely useful, both technically and in a more social sense because we get to see how others like us across the country are doing, and also because it highlights areas where we would benefit from taking the classes being offered to help develop those proficiencies.
For a long time now, also, this company has provided all employees with a good expander program and instructions on how to use it, as well as worked to accommodate whatever expanders come with new employees, and there's an e-mail group dedicated to sharing expander tips.
Probably other companies are also seeing some need help people who've allowed their skills to stagnate. I haven't personally, though, heard of any providing working expander dictionaries of short forms for their accounts and perhaps providing paid classes (right!) in their use. Developing our expander proficiency is still our own on-the-job job.

It just requires you to listen instead of typing. It is really not that annoying if the company you work for has a good speech recognition platform.
VR - MT

It's not that annoying if the company you work for either has all good dictators or at least only will let good dictators use it.
The platform cannot "think" no matter how good it is. If a dictator constantly backs up over himself, the platform does not know that. If a dictator constantly says "go back up to the dicharge list..." there is nothing the platform can do.
So, the people who say they have a good platform may only have good dictators....
And not boring for those who listen to what the words mean, - Poppy

which is critical to doing a good job anyway.
Tedious - MT

Can't say boring. Annoying and tedious for sure. Listen, lift foot off pedal, fix something little, listen for 1/2 second, lift foot off pedal, fix something else little, on and on and on. Can't stand it.
Sorry. I'm in and out of many more reports each day - Poppy

and like that, both in hearing all the patient stories and in knowing I'm getting a lot more done. I like that. I don't like verbatim, too little use of my range of abilities, product way too sloppy, I agree, but no coincidence that I have no verbatim accounts.

Voice Recognition - Is Anybody Making Any Money At All On Voice? Jan 12, 2013I was wondering, is anybody making any money at all on voice? I keep hearing just minimum or maybe a little more. I call minimum wage 7.50 to 8.00 an hour. My experience with it was at one point I was told that I hadn't made enough for minimum and they had to do make-up pay. So how is everybody's experience with voice? I run from it, and I just want to know if anybody really can make an money? Thanks. ...

Help! My Corporation Just Went To Speech Recognition! Jul 31, 2010Hello:
I don't know if I am using the right terminology, but my corporation has decided to use some kinda digital voice capture, so the software spits out unedited reports. meaning, as a hospital trained transcriptionist, I've gone from transcription to pure editing. And I am quaking in my boots. I would like to supplement my current job with at home transcription. Is this even still to be found?
All perspectives welcome.
Thank you. ...
Speech Recognition Editing Course Aug 01, 2010I graduated in May from the MT program at a local two-year college and, naturally, it's nearly impossible to find a medical transcription job as a newbie.
Since speech recognition seems to be the future, I was wondering if taking a speech recognition editing course would be a good investment of my time and money. AHDI, I know, is offering a speech recognition editing course. I've done a lot of copy editing in my previous clerical jobs. I've always been good at copy edit ...

Hate Speech Recognition. Jul 22, 2013When I get nothing but VR reports and have to change every second word, it is so hard getting even minimum wage and it is just so much more exhausting than regular typing where you get into a rhythm and I get so many bad dictators doing VR. If I keep getting nothing but VR, don't know if I will last here. Anyone else feel like this? Do these dictators think that all their slurred words, yawns, etc., magically morph into a perfect document. Ve ...
Speech Recognition Insertions Oct 05, 2014On a report, under "social history", the speaker says the patient lives alone with some pets. Speaker dooesn't actually state anything further regarding pets, but the document says "7 cats" right after where it says patient lives with pets. Where did speech recognition get the fanciful nondictated " 7 cats" from? Does it mean that speech recognition probably heard a previous report in which another patient had 7 cats?
Interestingly, this was a psychiatric report. Given that the patie ...

Voice Recognition Pay Jun 02, 2011I'm infuriated that the quota to keep benefits is the same as it was before voice recognition. SO UNFAIR!!! ...
(voice Recognition) VR Pay Sep 26, 2011Have to learn VR soon. What if a report comes to you and there were no corrections to be made, does MT still get paid for the lines on the report or do you only get paid for straight typing and then if report has errors you just get paid for those corrections. Never done VR before and for some reason they make it sound so easy. ...

Is Everything Voice Recognition Now (sm) Jan 16, 2014Is everything with M*Modal now voice recognition? I'm in an area that until now has been doing regular transcription but am just realizing my area is going to be VR in the very near future. What little VR I have done I suck at. Is there a trick to it that anyone could provide? I sure could ...

Is DocQvoice Only A Speech Recognition System? Jan 13, 2012Is DocQvoice only a speech recognition system? I have a very good lead on a job working directly for a small hospital, but was just told by the woman who already works for them that they are going to DocQvoice. Right now it is all straight transcription on a Lanier system with a VXP player. She doesn't seem to think it would be speech recognition because she doesn't think the doctors would go for it. Speech Recognition Vs. Straight Typing? Oct 07, 2012Ok everyone, need some advice please. At my old company I was straight typing and doing probably 1800 lines daily. Speech Recognition Line Counting Oct 24, 2013My job is transitioning to from straight transcription to speech recognition. This is what is being offered:
0.045 per line
A line is defined as 2 edited lines = 1 regular MT typing line of 65 characters
So in summary,
1. My cents per line is going to be cut in half going to SR editing.
2. The edited lines is also being cut in half because it takes 2 edited lines to equal 1 transcribed line.
Does this sound right? Are all companies counting lines this way? If ...

How Do You Do Voice Recognition Editing? Oct 31, 2009
Hi: I worked as an IC for 15 years and then went to work at a hospital for nine years. There have been layoffs where I work, and I think I will be included in the next round. Now, most of the services do a combination of transcription and voice recognition editing (I had no idea). Can somebody tell me something about VR editing? How is it done?&nbs ...

Voice Recognition In India Mar 26, 2010I'm curious about something and maybe somebody out there knows the answer to this question. Do the transcriptionists in India do voice recognition or are they regular transcriptionists.
