What is the going rate now for speech recognition work and how do you make any money doing it if the rates are low with all the editing that has to be done.

Using expanders helps, speeding up playback, and I find it helps to format the report before I get into it to edit. You can make money doing it, and by that I mean that you can make anywhere between $7.50 - $10.00 per hour, which isn't much, but a lot of it depends on whether you have good dictators or ESL. ESL will always slow you down, unfortunately. So, while you can make money doing it, it does not pay as well as typing, at least that is my experience.

We were approved for $520/month for food stamps, until they found out my husband owns a motorcycle. Then we were out. Apparently in Indiana, it doesn't matter if you own a brand new Lexus because transportation doesn't count, but motorcycles are counted as recreation. Let me tell you, at $4+ gallon of gas, there is nothing recreational about it. My husband uses it to and from work to save from driving our SUV. And he owns a Suzuki, not a Harley, not that that should matter. Made me so mad. Especially when the lady at the Food Stamp office told me I'm one of the very few citizens applying for Food Stamps, that most are "undocumented immigrants." WTH? I pay taxes, they don't. I was so angry.

I'm not holding out too much hope that I'll be approved, but I have to at least try. It'd be nice to eat fresh fruit and vegetables, and protein other than eggs and peanut butter, and lentils.

Yeah, and now I see on the news that a guy in MI won 2 mil in the lottery, yet he is able to keep receiving his food stamps because of a loophole in the law. Maybe I just need to move to Michigan. Makes me sick.

When I get nothing but VR reports and have to change every second word, it is so hard getting even minimum wage and it is just so much more exhausting than regular typing where you get into a rhythm and I get so many bad dictators doing VR. On a report, under "social history", the speaker says the patient lives alone with some pets. Speaker dooesn't actually state anything further regarding pets, but the document says "7 cats" right after where it says patient lives with pets. Where did speech recognition get the fanciful nondictated " 7 cats" from? Does it mean that speech recognition probably heard a previous report in which another patient had 7 cats? Is DocQvoice only a speech recognition system? My job is transitioning to from straight transcription to speech recognition. This is what is being offered: 0.045 per line A line is defined as 2 edited lines = 1 regular MT typing line of 65 characters So in summary, 1. My cents per line is going to be cut in half going to SR editing. 2. The edited lines is also being cut in half because it takes 2 edited lines to equal 1 transcribed line. Does this sound right? that I THINK might be 3M- I don't know, everyone here at the hospital just calls it BESR- they say it is a new program but it just seems almost like some generic deal. I have been straight transcribing for many moons. Then got into doing QA and a lot of the reports I get are straight editing of speech recognition rather than doing QA. My production stinks when I do straight editing and have no idea how those of you that edit speech recognition all day make a living. Kudos to YOU! Why is transcription done for a full report paid any differently than transcription done in a speech report?
