No but there is a site that tells you how to create a customized shortcut.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're asking, but-- - CM

In Word (at least in Word 2003 up, to the best of my knowledge), if you want to begin a numbered list you only have to type, say:
1. Text
and then hit enter and Word will automatically start the next line with
2.

Similarly, if you want to start a bulleted list, type, for instance:
* First line
and then hit enter and Word will change the asterisk to a bullet and put one at the beginning of the next line, as well.

No need for a shortcut ... you just type. Or am I misunderstanding what you're asking for?

There's an easy way to set one up - Word 2003 user

I'm assuming you want to know if there's an easy way after you already have your list typed.

In Word, go to Tools, then Customize. Down on the bottom of that screen that pops up, near the mid/right, you'll see a button that says "keyboard." Those are all of your keyboard shotcuts, both assigned and unassigned. Click on that button. You'll see another screen come up that has two lists. On the left hand side list, find the category that says "format" and click on that to highlight that. On the right hand list that says commands, scroll down until you find the one that says "FormatNumberDefault."

This command is not currently assigned to a keyboard short cut and you can tell that by the box that says "currently assigned" is blank. Pick any combination of keys that you want to use for this. If that combination is already assigned to another command, it will come up and show you what it is currently assigned to. You can assign over a command and re-write it, basically, or you can find a key combination that doesn't have something assigned.

Then just close out of those screens. All you have to do then is highlight the text you want to be numbered, use your command keys and you're good to go.

Hope that helps.

Ctrl+Shift +L starts a bulleted list. Numbers are automatic if you - SM

have that setting checked in your AutoCorrect options on the AutoFormat as You Type tab. Type #1 and tab, then type your text. #2 appears when you press enter.

Thank you all! I should have mentioned that I am using Emdat Inscribe..sm - OP

and the Word that is used with that program. I have to use my mouse to create a numbered list as there is no assigned hotkey and while that seems like a small thing it is time-consuming and cumbersome, not to mention frustrating! I will try all your kind suggestions. Thank you all so much for your help!

Short Cut For List Punctuation In A Drug List? (Fluency)
Dec 06, 2014

Is there is quick way to add commas between items in a list? Of course, using Ctl K in front a word will change the punctuation, but it will also change a capitalized drug to lower case, and you will still have to get to the beginning of the next drug which will require 2 Ctl arrows and backspace. Ctl arrow takes you to the beginning of the next word, but you will have to backspace to put in the comma. Adding punctuation to lists is so time consuming! ...
