Computer advice followup. QVC Toshiba ordered. - RoadRunnerMT

Posted: Aug 04, 2012

Just wanted to follow up and say thank you to those who submitted their opinions, experience, and advice for me previously!  I ended up getting a Toshiba from QVC.  They are running a special this month of August in which you can select the 6-monthly payment plan and pay it out on any laptops, receiving the item after the first payment, with no interest.  It's a little higher than I could have bought with money upfront, however, the paying it out really works much better for me in my current situation so given no interest and free shipping I thought that was my best bet.  The one I got was $499, 15.6 laptop, Core i3 2.2 speed, 4 GB RAM, 640 GBHD, Webcam, and DVD burner.  I didn't have any idea about the Toshiba brand so thank you so much for those who said they had good experience with these.  I was ready to get something besides a Dell this time.  Other comparisons in that price range had way smaller harddrives and processor speeds.  Anyone needing a computer but limited on funds, check out QVC.  My payments are $90.20 for 6 months.  Will take me two weeks to get it though.  Free shipping, no interest again.

Sounds great! I've never used Toshiba for a computer, but have had several large ticket Toshiba products over the last several years with never any problem, lasting forever.

I also just bought a new laptop, my first, (in fact, just had it set up yesterday) and when I was trying over several weeks to decide which brand to go with I consistently noted high ratings for Toshiba laptops.

I went with an HP, 15.6, i3,4GB, 500 hard drive. Setting up the computer was no problem and I was really sure that I would be able to set up the wireless system myself after spending what seemed like hours reading instructions online on how to do it, but NO-O-O-O-O!

I finally called in AT&T (my isp) to set it up for me and connect a printer/fax.

Well, enjoy your new laptop once it arrives!

Ain't QVC Grand. I just ordered one last week, on Wednesday, did my payment with my debt card and it arrived on Friday, the shipping date told me August 8, 2012 but here that fast. I am a payment gal. I do not and will not do credit cards if at all possible, I hate to pay interest and sometimes you just don't have the up front cash and those rent to own places are murder on the price tag. I got the 17.3 Toshiba LOVE IT. Just for the record, 9 years ago my husband got a Toshiba, it still runs in perfect order, and he does a lot of work on his computer. Of course, the processor and such are slower, was up to date for its time, but it would still work for all needs, just slower, so that is why I went with Toshbia, pretty impressive I think. He has replaced it due to the "age" of it and the changing of times but we still get it out and use it once in a while.

Good luck and hope you get your's as fast as I got mine.

PS. Call QVC once you see your payment has come out and get a tracking number, you might be surprised....

Thank you! I am very excited. Haven't had a new one in years. sm - RoadRunnerMT

Thank you for the tip INMT. I am going to go check it now! Mine said August 16th so I was kinda going oh that's a long time! But my payment processed the day I ordered it so I'll get my tracking now. I keep logging in and it just shows "pending".

I am in the process of transitioning jobs and will be going from a company-provided computer to my own.  Any suggestions on what software programs are needed, virus protection, word expanders, line counting, and hardware like foot pedal?  The hospital I am looking into will be using Microsoft Word.  Any comments on whether this is a good program or not to transcribe on?  Any tips?  I have been with the same company for 15 years, so have been out of the loop and need ...

Well, in trying a couple of your suggestions, I find it did not make a substantial difference.  I found I already try listening ahead and I had been using ctrl M to jump around the report when I need to, but never works for going faster through the actual report because I can't tell what is background gibberish while the dictator is thinking and what might be the dictator.  Leading me to believe it must have a lot to do with the account.  I can never go too far ahead of the d ...

Follow Up Or Followup
Jan 09, 2013

It's always the little things that snag me up.  I know the rules on follow up as a verb  and followup as a noun and adjective, but when a doc says, "CHIEF COMPLAINT:  Follow up acne", does he mean "recheck acne" which would make follow up a verb and thus spelled follow up, or does he mean "here for a followup of acne"? and thus the followup spelling.  What is the general rule on this "shortened" statement? Thanks. ...
