Question about Bayscribe and Windows 7 - Frustrated

Posted: Apr 04, 2014

Hello.....I have been using Bayscribe on my old desk top PC with windows XP and IE-8.  IT works fine.  I recently purchased a dell laptop and was told by my MTSO that bayscribe would work on windows 7 but not 8....so, I specifically asked purchased the laptop with windows 7.

But the IE on this new laptop is IE-10....so after much research, I found that this could be deleted, which I did and now I have IE-8 on this new windows 7 laptop.....

BUT.....I still cannot get the AUDIO to load.   the report (job) loads and I can type a report, but cannot get the AUDIO......anyone encountered this problem with Bayscribe and know of a fix?  Please help?  I am stumped and frustrated.....ready to call Dell, but afraid of what I will encounter at their "call center" cuz I am sure it is offshore with ESL customer service/IT techs and I will certainly get even more frustrated.

HELP...................PLEASE?

Bayscribe - and IE

If your IE is 64-bit, Bayscribe audio will not work. You need to use 32-bit. Hope that helps.

Wow....thanks for quick response. - Frustrated

I thought I had read something about this 64 versus 32-bit....I bet that is it...Now I need to figure out how to get the 32-bit on my laptop....Thanks again.....gonna see what I can find out about 32-bit.

:-)

I run Bayscribe on Windows 8 and Windows 7, both 64 bit. sm - Wish I could help

It seems like when I first try to use Bayscribe on another computer, I have to mess with the foot pedal set up, but it has been awhile, and I cannot remember what I did. Hope you figure it out.
Interesting..... - Me again...

You are able to run bayscribe on both windows 8 and windows 7, both 64 bit. Do you use internet explorer to connect to bayscribe? Do you know what version of internet explorer you are using? Again, I could log onto bayscribe but my audio wouldn't work.... Still trying to figure this out, havent heard back from my email to my MTSO, but gonna call my Dell tech support in the morning, as I purchased the 3 year's worth of support with them. Will see how that goes. :-) Again, thanks for your input....
I run both on IE 11. I used to work for OTI using Bayscribe sm - Wish I could help

and they always said it wouldn't work with Windows 8, but I work for another MTSO who uses Bayscribe and she said it worked on Windows 8 and I went ahead and tried it. That being said, it does act a bit wonky at times, adding in extra letters at the beginning of a word sometimes, but spellcheck takes care of it. Does your player come up and just not play, or does it not come up at all? I am thinking it is probably something simple, I just don't know right offhand what it would be. Back when Bayscribe first started, I was working at MDI and you could actually talk to the Bayscribe guy to help you, but I don't know if he helps anyone anymore or not.

Yes, the bayscribe screen comes up with a new report, but the audio player does not come up and of course no report to listen to..... :-) One suggestion above was to be sure my IE is 32 bit....but I have tried to download the IE for windows XP and it wont let me. I wonder if there is a way to just copy/download the IE-8 32-bit program that I am using on my PC and load onto my laptop? Can program files be downloaded from one PC to a laptop?
If your computer has 64-bit, 32 should be there too - SM

I had that problem when I first installed Bayscribe. I use Windows 7, IE9 and 32-bit. Maybe click on the start button and see if there is another IE there. I use 32-bit, so there is another IE icon that says 64-bit. Anyway maybe it's a problem with popups. When I asked support from my company to look at it, they disabled all of my add-ons and popups in order to get it to work, could try that. Hope this helps.
thanks for the input - feeling better today

I can only find one IE in my start menu and I also looked at the programs listed in "my computer"......I am afraid i have messed something up and ready to contact dell help....Yuck....I hate having to do that...

Bayscribe, Windows 7 and IE8 - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I just went through this not to long ago on a new Windows 7 32/64-bit computer.

Bayscribe will work with either Internet Explorer 8 or 9, but it *must* be the 32-bit IE version, not the 64-bit version.

If you're running IE8 or IE9 with the 64-bit version, you already have the 32-bit version but just don't know it.

1. On the start menu, go to "Computer" (towards the right hand side). Then, click on your hard drive icon (usually the "C:" drive), and this will bring up your File Directory.
2. Click on "Program Files (x86)" to open it.
3. Then, find "Internet Explorer" directory and click on that to open it.
4. In the list of files, find the file called "iexplore" and RIGHT-click on it. Choose "Send To" and then "Desktop (create shortcut)".

This will create an icon on your desktop for the 32-bit version of IE8 (or IE9, whichever you are using).

You will have to use this icon for opening IE in order to work in Bayscribe since it will open the 32-bit version. Don't use the IE icon on the taskbar at the bottom as this will open the 64-bit version by default.

to SM thank you so much..... - No jobs tonight, so playing with my new laptop....

I will give this a try. I was wondering also.......i am using this new laptop while I am setting all the stuff up on my wifi connection to my cable internet service. My old PC is connected directly to the cable internet service. Would this make a difference when using bayscribe. Do you know? Ty again.

Bayscribe and WiFi - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
If you're doing what I think you're doing (connecting up a home WiFi network), it should work just fine as long as you have a WiFi capable modem from your cable company.

My old computer used to be hardwired directly to my modem also, but I set it up as a wireless connection on my newer computer and Bayscribe works just fine.

Good luck and I'm glad I could help you out a little bit. I know how frustrating it is and I wish that there had been someone around to help back when I was tearing my hair out over these things :-)

Just kidding...trying to be mellow about this. By the way, to SM, I now have my desk top icon for IE-8 32 bit, but still cant get the audio box to come up on my bayscribe screen. I get the job and a blank text screen which allows me to type, but no audio.

And I have my new laptop set up on my cable company wifi system. still no luck getting audio.

now here is a crazy a question. I have not installed my infinity USB foot pedal yet. COULD THAT BE CAUSING THE PROBLEM?

and I have installed express scribe that I use for my few local doctors that I transcribe.....and it works fine.

Again, thanks for everyone's input and words of encouragement. I am determined to get this thing up and running. :-)
WiFi and Wireless - BH
[ In Reply To ..]
I have WiFi and I was told my ATT U-verse is wireless. I believe Nuance was the company that had Bayscribe. I was told by Nuance that I cannot have wireless. Now will companies that say "no wireless" let you type for them if you have WiFi?

Another clue regarding bayscribe, Windows7, and IE - getting closer to solving this.

[ In Reply To ..]
Someone asked me if the BayscribeClassObj add on is enabled.....but when I look under tools, this does not show up in my add-ons, so I cant enable it. MMmmmmm....Now how can I get this add on? Or why is it not showing up in my tools under manage addons?

Bayscribe/windows 7/IE 8 issue resolved.... - Totally Embarrassed.....

[ In Reply To ..]
I am soooooo embarrassed. I was so focused on the 32-bit Internet Explorer and Windows 7 switch from XP, that I totally failed to realize that I had not downloaded the "productivity tools" for Bayscribe to my new Windows 7 computer. I am usually much more on the ball that this and apologize for all the posts here and begging for help to solve my issues......BUT at least I learned something this past few days......I need to remember to clear my mind and start at the very beginning when trouble shooting computer issues.....Yes, stop thinking and start at the beginnin, LOAD THE SOFTWARE, then look for glitches. Probably would not have had any glitches if I had just installed the program. OMGoodness......embarrassed is not really the word for what I am feeling right now....I need a Bayscribe for Dummies manual. But I will never forget this situation. Thanks to all of you that offered advice and encouragement. I am going nighty night now and begin anew tomorrow. I sure do love this board and the wonderful people who take time to help some of us "dummies" :-) :-)
