Best headphones/headset? - Leesa

Posted: Oct 23, 2010

Hi,

I'm taking classes right now to be an MT, and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a really good brand of headphones or headsets?  Particularly, are there any out there that can boost sound quality?

Thanks!

Bose - cindy

I use the Bose noise cancelling headphones and they are so much better than the regular transcription headset I used to use. I think the voises are so much clearer and the sound quality is good.

Hi Cindy! Thanks for the "review". What model/style do you use? I'm probably not going to be buying any for a while, since I'm not working right now, but this way I'll have something to drool over.

Bose Quiet Comfort 3 Acoustic Noise Canecelling. My husband bought them for my off of E-Bay. They are really great. Definitely shop around for the best price.

Thanks Cindy! I'll look into them, will shop around, drool, and who knows, maybe a bit of money will come my way for Christmas.

definitely Bose - ko

I wouldn't necessarily make the investment until you have a steady job since they are pretty pricey, but they're definitely worth the money. I had a hard time finding a set that wouldn't give me a headache, but these are super comfortable and have great sound quality.

Thanks for Ko! What particular style/model are you using? They can go one the growing list of things that I want once I'm out of school and working again.

I see the overwhelming majority says Bose, which is probably right, but I have a set of Skull ear buds that I think work great. The set I have was around $28, which I realize is a lot when you are not working, but I am sure cheaper than Bose. They come with 3 different size buds for different size ears.

Hi Nan! I'm using a set of Skull Candy buds right now. They cause a slight buzz whenever I plug then in to anything. Not a bad one, but I'm sure that it doesn't help, and I'm looking for something better. I'm glad yours are working out for you.

Leesa - buzz

I did have a buzz when I plugged them into my speakers, but I plugged them directly into the front of my computer and the buzz disappeared. I guess that could be a problem if your computer is too far from the desk, as I think the cord is a little short for the ear buds. If your computer has a plug in in the front of it, it should work. Don't know if you've tried that, but it did take the buzz away for me. Good luck.
That's what I did too - Leesa

Great minds think alike! I plugged them in the front of the computer too, and you're right, the buzz did go away.

One of my problems is that I have seasonal allergies, which here last most of the year, and me ears end up clogged up a bit. I figure I can use all of the help that I can get. I'll keep researching, because the Bose are way out of my price range right now, and maybe forever.

i use a cyber-accoustics headphone and love it. 2 ways to control volume, nice microphone that moves any direction (out of the way), clip attachment for anchoring to your top/sweater, long cords. just mho.

Is that the brand? - Leesa

Carlyn, is cyber-accoustics the brand? They sound great.

I use Sony noise cancelling...sm - michelle

model MDR-NC60. They go completely over your ear and have an on/off switch that really boosts sound quality when turned on. I can type in my husband's diesel F250 truck when traveling (which I do quite a bit...lol) and I can hear great. Plus they are not quite as expensive as Bose ones. Good luck!

Thanks for the option - Leesa

Hi Michelle! Thanks for giving me another option to look into. They sound like they sound great :-)

Got My New Headset

I am sorry to say that my old ones work better for me.  I think they would be ok, but I get a lot of (what I think is) cellphone audio, and they just don't work as well for that.  I have tried switching back and forth while working to test them, and then I always end up using my old ones.   I like the way they feel though.  It was worth a try. ...

Recommend A Headset, Please

I'm looking to purchase a new headset for transcription.  I had a Philips SHM-7500 and it lasted for 6 years. It's no longer being sold other than on E-bay from Korea ;) I have heard good things about both the Logitech h540 and the Spectra USB Transcription Headset, two totally different styles. Any input/recommendations for these or any others? I use it on the computer, not for cassette tapes. The Philips had the open ear cushions while the Logitech has flat padding. ...

Aluminum Stethoscope Headset
Oct 01, 2011

I want to get an aluminum stethoscope headset because I used to use one onsite at the cancer center I worked for and absolutely loved it.  I do have a question though.  What type of plug-in would I need?  I want to plug it into my speaker and I now use the Emdat Inscribe platform.  I don't think a USB connection would work for me since I wouldn't be able to plug it into the speaker, so I would guess I would need the prong type plug-in.  Most of the time wh ...
