Total System Hours? - Ridiculous Expectations

Posted: Jul 24, 2012

Can someone please explain to me how the "total system hours" are calculated? My manager is always complaining that there shouldn't be a big difference between your hours clocked in on Webclock and your "total system hours" in Enterprise. I am wondering how they calculate these as I know it is not the time that you are clocked into Enterprise. I am guessing that they are somehow able to determine when you are actively working in Enterprise--typing, listening to audio, etc.? The thing that comes as ridiculous to me is that my manager told me that if you are a part-time MT you can have no more than a 45-minute difference over a 2-week pay period between your time clock and your total system hours. That is not even 5 minutes a day!!! Yet she expects us to read at least 4 emails that she sends out every day, check our FIESA scores at least weekly, maintain a quality score of no less than 99% (when exactly are we supposed to look things up?) and, most importantly, she forgets the fact that we are HUMAN BEINGS and might need to use the facilities or get up and get a drink from time to time. I can't believe what a sweatshop this company has turned into. Am I missing something here?

sounds like MModal (MQ) - crack the whip

We are allowed 15% inactive time. So, I guess you are supposed to do all your other things (email, FIESA scores, etc.) on your own time, unpaid.

Wow. MModal is looking better all the time - Ridiculous Expectations

I didn't think of it as a percentage. If you work 4 hours (minimum part-time requirement) and you are allowed less than 5 minutes of "inactive" time per day, that is only 2% "inactive" time per shift for all the extra activities that we do besides actively typing or editing. At least with your 15% inactive time you would be allowed 36 minutes for a 4-hour shift, which seems much more reasonable than what my manager is telling me. I wonder if this is across the board at Nuance or if it is just her rule.

well, that 15% is any time your not in the report - typing, so...

If you are on drugs dot com searching for a drug, that time is adding up.
I believe our system hours are also only typing hours - Ridiculous Expectations

so when we are looking things up and not actively typing it is also adding up and we are only allowed 5 minutes of not actively typing a day if you work part-time or 7 minutes per day if you work full-time and do not take advantage of the two 15-minute breaks (if you do, then you get 37 minutes per day). How can they possibly expect that?

Accentus is similar in keeping track of your time. You must be in an actual report, not just in the software, to accumulate productive time. I found out the hard way my first week. I worked an entire day, stopped to research, check notes, read feedback for help on difficult dictators, etc. At the end of the day, I see I'm 45 minutes short and I need to keep working. I didn't make up the time then, but now I know better and stay chained to the chair. Unfortunately, most companies are heading in this direction or already there.

I work on a different platform and have never been told anything like this. - anon

The lack of cohesive rules across the board is nuts. I come on here to find out what is going on half the time.

Do any of us have the same guidelines?

I understand different platforms have different needs; however, basic company policy seems to vary depending on account, whether you were a victim of a buy-out, etc.

It all seems very disorganized and good luck trying to get a straight answer or even the same answer from 2-3 different people.

system hours - new but old

[ In Reply To ..]
You need to go over her head because that is not right. You should have no more than an hour away every day. So you should have at least 70 (if full time) system hours every 2 weeks. I normally average around 72 hours. I get up and take breaks throughout the day also of course is the time you spend researching etc. As long as you are within 10 hours at the end of 2 weeks you are fine

How do you get this infor? Is this info available to us? NM - anon

time away from typing - new but old

This was told to me by my team leader on more than one occasion. My first paycheck I was way off because I was spending too much time away researching etc. She called and told me that you should have at least 70 hours (obviously they want more but they won't say anything) where it says total system hours

Has Anyone Figured Out System Hours?
May 26, 2015

I have asked for clarification of this but have never received a response from any TSM.  How is it figured?  Time typing?  Time spent pushing the foot pedal?  My system hours are usually quite a bit lower than actual hours.  Although no one has ever said anything to me about it, I fear that might not always be the case.   ...
