When I quit I will give notice because--sm - anon

first and foremost, I view it as a mark of professionalism. No matter what my employer is, I care about how I conduct myself and hope to do so in a professional matter.

While I absolutely hope to never work for Nuance again, I am not a prophet and do not know what the future has in store for me so should I need to seek employment with them, I would like to be in the re-hire category.

I am not sure if it is true of Nuance, but other companies have had it in the past where you would not get your PTO bank if you failed to give 2 weeks notice. I figure if I have made it this long, I am tough enough to last a measly 2 weeks.

Not giving notice also reflects badly on the person. You should always - give notice no matter how bad job is.

I quit MM thinking I would never go back but wanted their cheap insurance. Wouldn't hire me bac - since I gave no notice

and this is permanent. I quit 2 years ago and they still wouldn't hire me back.

I gave notice, just the professional thing to do, even if N isn't worth it, my NM - conscience will feel great

I gave no notice and would never consider re-hire at this hole of a company. I got my PTO pay with no problem and my conscience feels much better knowing I treated this place the same way they treated me. Nuance does not deserve any professionalism nor would they recognize it if it slapped them in the face. Do you think for one minute if you fail at this job you would be given any kind of notice before you are terminated? You will be shown the door in the amount of time it takes for your TSM to tell you that you are done. I had a job offer that stated I had to be able to start immediately. There was no way I was going to risk losing the wonderful job I have now, just to give this snake pit a notice.

I gave 2 days' notice. That way they can't - say I didnt give it, and its -sm

almost as satisfying as just walking off the job.

Also, even if you do give 2 weeks' notice, many companies just pull the plug on you within minutes of your notice anyway, regardless of the amount of time you gave. That way you win, as well. You can still claim you gave 2 weeks, and they'll have to scramble to cover you immediately, since they pulled the plug on you.

Even if you do give them notice and work the entire time, there's just no guarantee they won't find ways to badmouth you, so why even bother? My only care was to get myself OUT of there ASAP. In filling out resumés, I just make sure to give HR as my "supervisor" (since they change every other week, anyway), and let it go at that.

Am Considering Giving Notice To Webmedx
Nov 05, 2010

Giving Notice Vs Being Fired
Dec 23, 2011

I see a lot of confusion here lately.  Let me clear things up.   I know we all think of it as quitting in advance, but that's not the case, even if you tell them "I'm going to quit in 2 weeks."  When you give your notice, whether it's 1 day, 2 weeks, or a month in advance, you're essentially saying "I quit, but if you need time to find a replacement, I'm willing to stay for x amount of time."  This is just a courtesy.  If they decline your offe ...

Giving 2-week Notice?
Oct 14, 2014

Is Nuance still in the habit of cutting you off right away if you wish to give notice of leaving? I am nervous about taking the leap back into IC but need the flexibility, but what if it doesn't work out....what to do, what to do? I start training this week and want to give 2 weeks notice, just for the fact that I want to keep working around the same time of day that I am scheduled at Nuance - and goodness knows we can't work outside of our schedule  - so can't do both at th ...

Transcend Rehiring After Not Giving Notice

Should I Even Bother Giving 2 Weeks Notice?
Sep 05, 2014

Really getting fed up....virtually NO work since Labor Day....looking elsewhere and don't want to burn any bridges, but what's the point of giving M*Modal 2 weeks notice if there's no work to type and I could actually be making money at a new job in that 2 weeks' time?! ...

Quitting W/o Notice
Nov 25, 2011

Considering quitting Transcend w/o notice.  I understand I will not be able to be rehired.  In years past I quit MQ w/o working through my full 2 weeks too.  (I know... BAD, BAD, BAD.) I am concerned though that if I go to work for a smaller company and they are bought out by one of these 2  (which seems to be a high probability) I could be screwed. In the field these days you have to have a FT job and try it out before you quit.  Then you are trying to do both and get ...

Quitting Without Notice
Feb 10, 2014

If I work as an IC and quit without giving any notice, can the lady I work for legally withhold my paycheck and not pay my final invoice? I know as an IC we really do not have any rights with the labor board so if she does not pay me what would be my next course of action? I have never quit without notice but due to the circumstances she has left me without many options. ...

Apr 25, 2013

I have done some Team Lead and Acct Management work too. I was working 3 VR Editor jobs (I also have an online jewelry boutique) to make ends meet. I lost one of the jobs last week and need to replace it...don't mind VR Editing but prefer working with MTs (in the US). I really enjoy the challenge of getting blanks...goofy, right? I know that the jobs are few and far between - especially with Nuance and MModal. I wouldn't mind going back to Nuance but they will not give me the time ...

Giving Up On The Q

It is hard to take the leap of faith. It is hard to not be an "MT" anymore after so long. It is hard to think of myself as doing something else... I always said I would go down with the ship and it was hard to admit that my life boat had arrived....maybe an offshore joke would work here. Thanks to all the posters on the board who kept me from going insane everytime I was lied to, everytime I was performance managed, got my pay cuts, got lied to some more, and got promoted to MME.  I don ...

Newbie Considering Giving Up On MT

Giving Lines Back
Sep 13, 2012

I just took a job that said they paid 3.2 cpl for edited and 6.8 for transcribed.  Almost everything is edited.  Now they want me to divide my edited line count by half and claim that as my edited line count, not the total number of edited lines I do.  Has anyone else been told this kind of stuff?  I can't believe it!  If I do this I only get paid 1.6 cpl for my edited lines.  I am flabergasted!  I can't live off that in America, who could? ...

Quitting: IC
Dec 28, 2009

I've been working as an IC for a small operation.  There is no written contract, and in fact nothing was stated verbally about terms, conditions, etc. In keeping with the above ;) , they are disorganized and unprofessional, and I want out.  In fact, I have already written my resignation notice. Another MT just up and quit the other day.  I wish to do the same, even though I have never, ever done this in my life (I'm 46 and have been working since the age of 17).&n ...
