On my shift yesterday, I did well over 3 hours of dictation, worked 7.25 out of 8 hours (by company standards), and made less than $60.00. Again. Can someone please tell me how not to give up?

No. I can't tell you how not to give up because this job has made me feel so humiliated and ashamed of myself.

This used to be a pretty good profession, but I made more money at my high school job than I do now, almost 25 years later. I feel so stupid. I chose not to go back to my hospital (union) MT job after my maternity leave was over. I chose to try to work transcription from home so I could take care of my baby and work nights while my husband works days. Now I couldn't go back if I wanted to because the in-hospital jobs are gone.

Yesterday I got a call from the bank saying I was 39 dollars short on a payment. I didn't have 39 dollars to cover it. I could have cried, I was so embarrassed. I have never lived like this; I have always had a good job. And don't think because I have a husband that I don't have to pay my bills; he doesn't believe in joint accounts.

I had no idea when I signed my contract that almost all of my work would be voice recognition which pays PEANUTS. My pay stub looks like a joke. I feel so stupid.

I used to be excited and proud to be in this "profession." I still care about medicine and I care about a good chart, but my self-esteem is shot. This must be what being in an abusive relationship is like. You just keep taking the beating and you don't leave.

It is maybe somewhat nice to know that the feelings are shared. Typed for years of a person feeling hopeless, helpless and worthless and now am that person. The so-called career has kicked us all to the curb and when we have invested all good years. Now what? Even when working in-house they had schooling offered, but who could have a job, house, kids and time to use that benefit. Now, there is nothing.

On your husband though with not believing in joint accounts...I have to disagree there as marriage is a 50/50 relationship and supposed to be for better or worse.... I think transcription has hit "worse."

Yeah, that's pretty well the norm pay I think anymore, especially with VR. But sometimes the way they have cut headers, footers, etc. if they pay without spaces, and if you're looking up demographics, this can be the pay for you even if it's not VR. I'm certainly not happy with the compensation anymore, and it's not going to change.

today I got my termination letter....not enough work, have to let you go. BUT, I was one of the good ones. So what, I have no job now. Who decided how many lines of straight typing or editing were the norm? With what most of these companies want you to do now on VR you would have to crank up the speed, not worry about punctuation or for that matter verbiage..just send it through. Where has the quality of the work we used to do gone? There is no pride in it anymore...I hear ya on feeling inadequate.

I am giving it up, transcription work. I have been a transcriptionist since 1998 and have thus so far on this board or other boards have had a job that supported me in doing my work. I have learned many platforms and programs for these companies and always QA seems to be the downfall on all jobs. Learn it one way, learn it another way and always not good enough. I see a lot of confusion here lately. Let me clear things up. I know we all think of it as quitting in advance, but that's not the case, even if you tell them "I'm going to quit in 2 weeks." I just took a job that said they paid 3.2 cpl for edited and 6.8 for transcribed. Almost everything is edited. Now they want me to divide my edited line count by half and claim that as my edited line count, not the total number of edited lines I do. Has anyone else been told this kind of stuff?
