No work for a couple weeks now, what's going on? - anon

I am assigned to 4 accounts, 1 new about 2 months ago and the other 2 a few weeks ago. At first there was tons of work, OT every weekend and now...nothing. There is no work ALL DAY LONG. I am scheduled early morning and I have checked all day, every day and there is no work. I was moved off an account where I always got my lines in even if I had to flex a bit, but these new accounts have NO WORK ALL DAY.

This is unbelievable and scary.

Is this happening across the board?

I was offered a MT job at home, using my computer, as an employee status, not IC. You do realize that India pays IC 2 cents a line. This placed offered me 4 cents a line for editing, but DID NOT count for spaces, my thumb works for spaces too. Lets say I typed 1000 lines a day, and I say that for a reason. It comes to 40.00 a day. Now, let's see, if I could simply straight type and never ever have to stop to look up a weird word, or strain my ears to understand a guy "who just got off the boat" and can't speak our language, barely, and try to figure out what the heck he is saying, any any other myriad of things that can come up in the course of typing a report, then my daily pay would still be 40.00 a day. However, when all the above occurs, my daily pay is 30.00 a day. We are expected to do 14,000 lines every 2 weeks at the new job I was offered. With all that interfernces that come during each hour of "typing" I would have to put in a 12 hour day to maybe get in 14,000 lines at that rate. In the old days when I worked in a hospital. I had a base pay rate, and then incentives for my line count. Why, can't they give us a base pay rate now, and include a required line incentive also? Also the platform used is important for production. They were using APEX!!! It is old, outdated, and you can barely get 30 lines an hour on the thing. I did my research on it. When I approached the interviewer with that fact she went "silent." I turned the job down. I told her I will be working for Burger King and make more money a day. We have turned into a slave labor force. I went to Lowe's Foods the other day. A pack of English Muffins, the kind with raisons in them was 4.00 a pack, for 6 muffins. A year ago they were 2.75 a pack. I can't work for 4 cents a line. Groceries for 4 including all cleaning supplies, laundry, etc, on top of food is an easy 250 a week if not more when you run out of certain things. 40 to 45 dollars a day is not enticing. It is poverty level.

Thanks Transcend! This is what I get for being a devoted employee of 9 years. I worked OT when you needed it, took stats when it wasn't my shift.

and I have an interview next week. I'm only trying to bridge a gap between losing a contract and finishing my degree so I'm not concerned about long-term. Are they getting US MTs to do work initially so client is happy and then they send it overseas?

I have "access" to 5 accounts and ALL of them are empty ALL day EVERY day.

The only conclusion is that US MTs "train" the account and then it is immediately shipped off.

I can't imagine why they are hiring. I can only assume there are hundreds of us across these 5 accounts that are out of work every day now.

but no word despite repeated emails to her. I have been shuffled around 3 times to various accounts that have run out of work in my 6 months with Transcend/Nuance, and even audited the work of overseas MTs (hey, a job is a job). It all disappeared.

I finally emailed so-called supervisor today and asked that, if no position could be found for me (mentioning the irony of the ads for all types of positions that I was seeing), if I could be officially laid off so I could at least get unemployment.

She is out of the office until tomorrow.

My TL at Transcend said they knew the offshore push was - coming but not as quickly as it did. Maybe

After seeing all these posts about Nuance/Transcend I am confused. They are hiring, hiring, hiring!! I just got offered a position because they "just have so many accounts they need coverage for". Now that I see these posts, I am thinking of changing my mind. I'm not planning on sitting around and doing nothing all day because they are overhiring or sending work overseas. Any thoughts?

The big hiring push is beyond my understanding. I sit all day (up to 12 hours) between 4 accounts and nothing is ever in the queue.

I got put on some secondary accounts that had a ton of work for about 2 days and then nada.

My account is so busy that I know they are hiring for it. I can't even remember the last time I ran out of work, maybe a year ago. I don't even have a secondary account because I don't need one. I have to say though, I work 2nd shift, so the 1st shift may run out of work, I don't know. I am pretty sure that this account does not offshore, as there were over 400 reports in the queue this morning at 9 a.m.

I just got yet ANOTHER account. So now I have to move between 5 accounts all with different specs and even then not that much work.

ALL of the accounts I am on offshore.

I was on a great account for over a year that had OT constantly and tons of jobs all the time. Then one day, no work and so began my constant moving around. And, just to be clear, the first account I was on for a year was not lost, the bulk of the work is now being sent to India.

Supe replied that she would be in meetings regarding accounts (mentioning the first one I had worked on, primarily) and would keep me up to date. Was very polite, said she knew I was concerned. This debacle isn't her fault.

....they moved me over to the (former) Webmedx side (I was with the Transcend buyout prior). One main account that's SUPER picky!! Plus I have 8 backup accounts....ahhh YES! Crossing fingers this means job security for a bit.

Now, what on earth is this FIESA thing that everyone is complaining about? (BTW, I'm not one of those ultra-anal QAs....been in the trenches myself and for enough years and a reasonable enough human that I believe in positive reinforcement, not fussing over a report unless there are absolutely major errors in transcription).

Maybe they're moving around some of the MTs from the accounts that are being impacted by offshoring.

I'm 3rd shift and am continually starting out the night on my main account with nothing or just 1 or 2 reports on it now. This is freakin' ridiculous. And counterproductive. Moving around to more and more accounts that I'm not as familiar with lowers my productivity and accuracy. Totally bass-ackwards business management logic.

toss people around from account to account, so that you won't make any money. Apparently no one in mgt has a brain or a heart. People who don't do this work apparently thing none of the myriad of variables that factor into the ability to make a buck matter. Switching accounts is something they have done for a long time, pre SR/VR, to screw MTs out of a living.

All they while they're signing hospitals up for a full outsource, promising jobs for the MTs who've been displaced. But when the MTs get to Nuance, there's no work pretty quickly as it's all sent offshore. But Nuance promises the hospital that the work won't be done offshore. It's all a BIG LIE! And hospitals don't know until it's too late!

They are all about profits and could not care less.

I am going to have to take on another full time MT job just to get the equivalent of one full time job.

I don't know why the hire more people when there are so many of us not getting work.

If you are still employed, but without any work, please apply for unemployment benefits. This includes "partial unemployment" when your workload has decreased but not totally disappeared.

Alice is totally correct in this. I too applied for unemployment once when the transcription company I worked for kept running out of work - I sat for hours with nothing to do. My unemployment was approved and I drew on it for 16 weeks. Try and see if that works for you. It's ridiculous to have a job and no paycheck!!

I came over from a buyout and I see constant goose eggs for the account backlog list. So far, I've only been without work for an hour or two, but I can see the writing on the wall. My previously busy accounts suddenly are sputtering in sporadically. I only see familiar names on the completed reports...so that stumps me. How can we tell if work is going to India?

The majority of accounts are offshored to some - extent unless customer forbids. It

(1) Do you only fail if you fail a final at the end of the course, or are there tests throughout the course you have to pass to continue on? I assume if you do not pass a test to pass on, they cannot charge you for the course. (2) Did they ever tell you how much that would be? Have had me feeling as if some of us who have been at Transcend longer were not offered what they have been offering recently, maybe that is why I have seen so many people leave. What about RX coverage, what is copay for brand/generic? What is the yearly deductable--what do you have to pay out of pocket before your insurance covers most of it? Just an update for the posters I was speaking with the other night about reactivating my application at MQ and going part-time... Apparently once you're hired and have accepted a position, you do remain in the system and all it takes is reactivation to put you back into the process. The rep I spoke with was very nice and emailed the appropriate department to contact me tomorrow to get everything reactivated and continue processing me as a new hire. I'm not sure if testing ...

First, I had assumed that a Microsoft Word/Office Starter would be included -- it's not. I'd never done an upgrade before (late adopter/new machines) so that was an unwelcome surprise.
