TJ Maxx is the latest to do so. Maybe there is a little bit of hope for us??

Maybe someone in corporate will discover he/she has a heart after all and realize we can't make it on their theft of 40% of our wages.

If they were allowed to hide in the shadows like Nuance, they would not be doing those things. Used to be companies cared about what people thought, including caring about their own employees. Now they do not, unless it starts cutting into the bottom line.

If there was a way we could draw attention to this, to make people care, even care about their records going to India, it might help, but very hard to try to make any media impact with our plight, and nobody seems to really care that I can see, even about the records going overseas.

They pretty much have us over a barrel and I feel qualified, as an employee of Nuance for a few years now, to state that Nuance has no heart. Absolutely none. They will thieve our wages as much as they can and it appears we have no recourse and no hope but raising the minimum wage basically, because they are determined to make sure as many of us as possible are on that.

I am laughing to myself because a couple months ago I was so fed up with making between $400 and $500 for a 2-week pay that I wrote to my congressman outlining various things about working this job including the pay. Well, just a few days ago I got back a LOVELY form letter telling me that he's on some committee dickering about minimum wage and how he knows how hard it is to live below the poverty level and thanks for my letter. What a BLEEPING joke. Not that I really expected anything other than this.

I think it is absolutely great that you contacted your congressman. I am not sure what you expected. The thing is, you got a little attention. Write another letter, get a little more attention. Go to a meeting where he/she is speaking, speak to them in person. Call them on the phone.

Little things do make a difference and you have to keep at it. You cannot write one letter and quit.

Of course. They will raise the minimum amount you have to do. - Sure

Massachusetts may well pass a minimum wage of $11 (over 3 years). It's passed the state senate. Parts of WA (Seatac) actually have a $15 minimum wage. Wonder what Nuance will do about MUP now, since so many in those states will be getting it. Could get interesting. ...

A $15.00 minimum wage would equate to 375 lines per hour at .04 per line. That's 3000 lines a day for an 8 hour day! The best I have ever done was 2700 lines editing in an 8 hour day and that was only once and someplace where I had been doing the same doctors for 6 years. Guess I would get fired for always getting MUP. And by the way, that's 428 lines per hour (3424 lines per day) at .035 per line and 500 lines per hour at 0.03 (4000 lines per day). I have heard in various places on these boards that if you are supposed to work full-time and your pay (by the line or character) doesn't equal minimum wage for those hours, you can get unemployment even though you still have a job. I LOVE working from home. I love my CCM, she is extremely understanding and flexible, which is what I need! Did you know that minimum wage will be raised from $8.00 to $9.00 next month, at least in California? So I wonder what that means for Nuance. If our skills are valued the same as fast food workers, then why do they require at least one year's experience as an MT to be hired? Why do newbies have to have gone to school? I called my parents' lawyer; this post is RIGHT ON! MTSOs have used semantics to rip us off for the past decade. They DO have to pay minimum wage ! We do NOT work "production", as MTSO's claim.
