out of work - minimum wage? - missindale
Posted: Dec 24, 2011
Am I reading the policy correctly? Even if I choose to take PTO, I'm going to get minimum wage? I've never run out of work before.
I dont think so - usually

I have had many days of NJA, and I either take unpaid, make up, or get PTO. If it is on Christmas day, you will get the same. You only get holiday pay for lines typed.
I never heard of PTO being paid out at minimum wage.
Okay, here's what I know - And it came in an email from my CCM

If you run out of work, you are supposed to wait 15 minutes. Then you send an email to the SPIL Completionist, and CC in your CCM. You attach an OOW form (also provided to us by our CCM). If the SPIL Completionist team can find you work (included on the OOW form is a listing of your primary account, secondary accounts, and any tertiary if you have them) on any of your accounts listed on your form, they will send you an email telling you they just assigned you jobs, and tell you how many and for which account. You do this until you get an email saying there is no work available on any of your accounts. THEN....you go into TeamWork, on the Card tab, and enter (at least) 15 minutes of Work Availability. For example, if you normally work 3p to 11p, and you only had work until 7p, you go into your Card tab, you add time under Work Availability, and then you would put the times as 7p to 11p. For those 4 hours, you receive minimum wage pay, according to what the minimum wage is in your state.
HOWEVER, I noticed my CCM making edits to my timesheet, and instead of giving me the hours I requested under Work Availability, she changes it to 15 minutes. I am looking very hard for that email, because from what I can recall, what I stated above is the proper policy. We are to enter "at least" 15 minutes, which to me meant if you are out of work for LESS than 15 minutes, you cannot put in for minimum wage (Work Availability). I am also going to check the webpage for policies. She must have gotten that information from somewhere.
So, hope this helps, but that one point I will clarify soon when I have more information. The rest of it is accurate. Contact SPIL Completionists, CC in your CCM, and wait and see. If not, punch out, and enter Work Availability.
that's not the same as what it says on MQCentral - missindale

there it just says wait 15 minutes, doesn't say anything about emailing SPIL. But when I looked at the policy it sure looked like you would get minimum wage, except in a few states.
To be honest I'm more confused after reading the policy - Its confusing

It says, your CCM will "populate the appropriate excused absence in TeamWork." What the heck does THAT mean? What is appropriate? Is it the 15 minutes we put in, or is it the whole time we were out of work? With my CCM making that change on my timesheet, I am wondering if she only felt only 15 minutes was "appropriate", even though I was without work on my shift for several hours.
And yes, in some states you get paid your your benefit rate. Namely, California, New Jersey or Rhode Island. It lists specifics for certain states in the policy. That part of the policy is strewn with words like "at least" and "no less than".
I recently had to cancel some magazines. I had to listen to the recorded message 3 times to figure out how to cancel them. They purposely made the languate confusing, and if you weren't careful you would sign up for another year. This kinda feels like that to me.
So confused right now.
Okay, I was wrong. It is not "at least" 15 minutes - It is 15 minutes

So, when you run out of work, and you don't make up the time, or take PTO, you choose the next option:
Release from work without pay: If the Employee decides to be released from work without making up the time or taking PTO, the Customer Care Manager will populate the appropriate excused absence in TeamWork.
Once the Employee submits the QCare Service Request or emails their Customer Care Manager as required, the Employee will enter 15 minutes of Work Availability on their time card in TeamWork. Once all of this is complete, the Employee is released from work and is free to engage in nonwork activities for the remainder of their shift.
The Employee shall be compensated at the minimum wage for their state of residence during the Work Availability Issue Resolution period.
To be honest, I'm more confused than ever. What is a "Work Availability Issue Resolution period"??? Anyone have a clue???
work availability resolution period - SM

That is the 15 minutes that they made you wait before cheking to see if there was work again.
Some states get paid, like California, when there is no work, I think 4 hours or something. In my state, I dont get paid, so I only get 15 minutes.
So, the resolution period for me would be 15 minutes, California might be 4 hours or whatever.
what is a SPIL completionist and a OWW - must be a spheris thing

On MQ central, it says you wait 15 minutes. Log back onto DocQscribe and if there is no work, then fill out Q care ticket and choose what you want to do. Thats it.
OOW simply means out of work - SPIL Completionist are the people

you send your OOW ticket to, just like you send your Qcare ticket to someone.
3 choices - North MT

When you are out of work for 15 minutes you need to fill out a Qcare ticket (link on left side of MQ central website) for new service request. This routes this to your CCM to add to your timecard. You are given 3 choices: Take the rest of your shift unpaid, use PTO at whatever rate you are paid or make up the hours. Your CCM will enter 15 minutes of minimum wage for your state on your time card regardless of which option you choose unless you live in the 3 states which have different rules. You are only allowed 1 Qcare ticket per shift. Which means if you decide to make up work and run out again too bad.
Okay so the 15 mins is at minimum wage nm - missindale
Too bad we can't just type our way to $16, $17, and upwards of $20 per hour anymore.
Shoot, with the amount of work available, I guess I should consider myself lucky to even get MINIMUM WAGE. (Wish I was)! ...
I'm worried if I suffer another .03 cent decrease I may drop below minimum wage. How do we indicate that to somebody? Is it calculated per pay period - or what? ...
Massachusetts may well pass a minimum wage of $11 (over 3 years). It's passed the state senate. Parts of WA (Seatac) actually have a $15 minimum wage. Wonder what Nuance will do about MUP now, since so many in those states will be getting it. Could get interesting. ...
Okay, so I read by 2015, DC wants minimum wage to be $11.50 an hour. I'm assuming by that time Nuance will make our minimum line count reflect this increase - approximately 280 lph, especially since WE NEVER GET A RAISE. ...
Bottom line is, regardless of the new pay rules, it's hard to even make above minimum wage before or after the new rules. So at least federal law guarantees minimum wage. Beyond that, my goal is to get out of this field and leave this MTSO company ASAP, though it won't happen overnight. ...
A $15.00 minimum wage would equate to 375 lines per hour at .04 per line. That's 3000 lines a day for an 8 hour day! The best I have ever done was 2700 lines editing in an 8 hour day and that was only once and someplace where I had been doing the same doctors for 6 years. Guess I would get fired for always getting MUP.
And by the way, that's 428 lines per hour (3424 lines per day) at .035 per line and 500 lines per hour at 0.03 (4000 lines per day).
If more cities raise the ...
My ASR rate x 100 is less than minimum wage. My transcription rate x 100 is just slightly higher than minimum wage. I wonder if MQ is planning to increase the minimum lph to 150. ...
With the last spate of "changes" including institution of the latest version of DocQScribe -- the blossoming of the "swap board" and the "waving bye-bye" of accounts of 8-years' duration -- as they switch to using TEMPLATES (God Bless Electronic Medical Records) --my income has dropped more than 50% in the last 6 months.
But hey, I'm not concerned. After all, I'm an idiot to begin with. I have no intellect, no language skills, no research skills, no "shorth ...
On today's check I had 0.25 hours at minimum wage, and I have no idea why. I have always produced my 150 lph minimum every day since I started. I am not making a ton of money, but my hourly average is more than minimum wage. Now I am getting really paranoid. Of course, I am in the over 10 cpl category. This just can't be right, but I fear it has put me on some big-wig's termination radar. ...
I am just curious if we are entitled to minimum wage since those of us who are employees are required a minimum to keep benefits and yet not making minimum wage and just sitting here not making any money while accounts are over staffed? ...
I have heard in various places on these boards that if you are supposed to work full-time and your pay (by the line or character) doesn't equal minimum wage for those hours, you can get unemployment even though you still have a job. Does anyone know if that is true? Does it apply to part-time work? If anyone has a link to valid information, please let me know. I don't even know where to look, but I'm dying here with NJA when I'm supposed to be working, getting no response ...
On a post below about SGS, an MT states that she is being paid minimum wage. She states she had to 'fight' for it, however, they are paying her minimum wage on the accounts where she is scheduled, and expected, to sit in front of her computer when there is very little work.
I have asked several coworkers about this, and some of them are being paid minimum wage, as well. Not all; only the ones who requested (demanded) it.
THERE GOES ALL MTSO CLAIMS THAT SINCE WE' ...
I was reading a post placed earlier today about minimum wage and calling employment lawyers, etc. Why can't we all get together, hire someone to represent us (like a lobbyist) or start our own organization since AAMT bailed on us. There is power in numbers. We just need someone who is a leader to step forward and make this happen. I would be willing to pay a small sum of money on my part to get something started for us to have some type of representation to get our i ...
I LOVE working from home. I love my CCM, she is extremely understanding and flexible, which is what I need! Due to this, a few weeks ago I decided I just had a "bad attitude" and needed an adjustment. So I put my nose to the grindstone and produced almost 5,000 more lines than normal or required (80 hours). I had quite a few straight transcription jobs, and was confident my paycheck for the last pay period would be awesome! Although it was approximately $70 more than normal, I still figured ...
I decided to drive to the Labor Department and ask them directly about this issue, with respect to the fact that MTs who work as employees are paid "per line."
The guy said, "It doesn't matter what type of work you do, by federal law you must be paid mininum wage." --- Even if the agreement is for "per line," it must equal mininum wage.
So folks ... start keeping very strict records of when you're working and ONLY when you're working. That means, if you get up to go to the ...
I graduated last year from MTEC. I've been working since November at a national company and am earning minimum wage of $8.00. Many recommend that you earn a certificate--starting with the RMT and later the CMT. According to my research, each test costs about $200. In addition, it is recommended that one keep up with the field by attending conferences and the like occasionally, which also tends to cost some money.
Now, I can understand the "overhead" if being a ...
I had a couple of ASR reports that were stellar, being of the quality we were promised (of course, not from my usual accounts), and yet, the lph was still around minimum wage (hovering around 200). What's up with that!? The new statistics graphic shows the proof. Geez, they keep handing us more and more proof that earning a living wage doing ASR for MM is hopeless.
Anyone doing at least 300 lph without having dictator standard reports? ...
If minimum wage gets raised to over $10.00 an hour - I'm leaving. I don't care if I work at Wal-Mart or McDonalds!! I'll get paid for chatting, meetings, breaks, going to the bathroom, etc..... ...
Did you know that minimum wage will be raised from $8.00 to $9.00 next month, at least in California? So I wonder what that means for Nuance.
Does that mean that the minimum line per hour will now be mmore than the current minimum of 186 lines/hour to meet minimum wage without having the company pay MUP or make-up pay? Or does that mean that they will give employees a raise and leave required lines at minimum of 186 lines? I wonder.

If our skills are valued the same as fast food workers, then why do they require at least one year's experience as an MT to be hired? Why do newbies have to have gone to school? Why the lengthy testing before being hired? Any 16-year-old with no work experience can be hired at Burger King, so why not as a medical transcriptionist? I don't understand the reasoning behind lowering our income to minimum wage and making it next to impossible to advance beyond minimum wage, even for peo ...
Checking the new compensation plan, I will make minimum wage if I continue doing the lph I currently do. I need to double it to make close to my former pay; my quality is already at/near the top so can't really improve that way. Even if I could do many more lines and stay at high quality, THERE IS NO QC WORK! There hasn't been enough work for weeks now. How can they require this line count when they are fully aware there is not enough work to even do a minimum-wage level li ...
I hear often that you only get paid per line. I was curious if any of these MT services supplement your pay up to minimum wage if your line count pay falls below it. ...
I called my parents' lawyer; this post is RIGHT ON! MTSOs have used semantics to rip us off for the past decade. They DO have to pay minimum wage ! We do NOT work "production", as MTSO's claim. The term for compensation method regarding our work type is "tiered incentive"; there is an actual base hourly rate, which is what PTO 'per hour' time is designated and paid out at (in my case $12.00, almost $4.00 more than minimum wage in my state), and anything over ...
if you don't get it when there is no work? Seems like they are a stickler about punching a time clock and hours and say it's so you at least get minimum wage but I'm seeing things about people running out of work and not getting paid while they sit and wait for work. Can anyone enlighten me about this policy?? ...
