Minimum wage issue again - Wonderin

I was reading a post placed earlier today about minimum wage and calling employment lawyers, etc. Why can't we all get together, hire someone to represent us (like a lobbyist) or start our own organization since AAMT bailed on us. There is power in numbers. We just need someone who is a leader to step forward and make this happen. I would be willing to pay a small sum of money on my part to get something started for us to have some type of representation to get our issues as MTs looked at at the state or the federal level - whatever it takes.

After originally being "concerned." They changed their entire name so that it no longer has the word Transcriptionist in it. They do not represent us in any way and have not for a very long time. There is a new organization though and their banner appears here on this site often. They have a Facebook page too.

I believe he took the organization in the wrong direction, but it doesn't matter now. He's gone. The people who are there now seem much more interested in the MT than the last 'administration' did.

He and Jay Vance killed off this industry, lowered the standands, allowed a door to open to pay us lower wages and less or no benefits. The bitter taste will remain long after I am gone. I joined the new organization. The one with the words AEMRICAN and TRANSCRIPTION in the title. The ones against offshoring.

Well, let's see: They got in bed with MQ, supported offshoring. They have never done anything for MTs except take our money. I watched them from the beginning when they were sort of a group of what we called the "sorority girls." Although they have gotten way more sophisticated, I still do not believe they represent me or my values. Just my two cents' worth.

Was mostly sorority girl MTSOs. They greatly furthered their own interests and in the process used our money to do it. And then they became "sophisticated." Penning the BOS that costs a fortune and so does the CMT examination. And THEN they changed their name, took the word transcription out of it and supported offshoring. You are right, they never did a thing for us. Very few institutions care about or pay more for a CMT and many of those grandfathered back then were not good transcriptionists. All a big joke on us who supported them.

A $15.00 minimum wage would equate to 375 lines per hour at .04 per line. That's 3000 lines a day for an 8 hour day! The best I have ever done was 2700 lines editing in an 8 hour day and that was only once and someplace where I had been doing the same doctors for 6 years. I have heard in various places on these boards that if you are supposed to work full-time and your pay (by the line or character) doesn't equal minimum wage for those hours, you can get unemployment even though you still have a job. I LOVE working from home. I love my CCM, she is extremely understanding and flexible, which is what I need! Did you know that minimum wage will be raised from $8.00 to $9.00 next month, at least in California? So I wonder what that means for Nuance. If our skills are valued the same as fast food workers, then why do they require at least one year's experience as an MT to be hired? Why do newbies have to have gone to school? I called my parents' lawyer; this post is RIGHT ON! MTSOs have used semantics to rip us off for the past decade. They DO have to pay minimum wage ! We do NOT work "production", as MTSO's claim. if you don't get it when there is no work? Seems like they are a stickler about punching a time clock and hours and say it's so you at least get minimum wage but I'm seeing things about people running out of work and not getting paid while they sit and wait for work.
