From in-house to Nuance - sls9700

Posted: Jun 21, 2014

So, my in-house clinic job was outsourced to Nuance. We have been promised that we will work only on that clinic after moving to Nuance.  It is a huge clinic with a lot of doctors.   Has anybody gone through this that can tell me if they keep their promise on that -- where you continue to type your original clinic work?

It may be that way initially... - False Sense of Security

[ In Reply To ..]
...but as soon as you get settled so to speak, your account will run dry because it's been overstaffed, they'll move you around onto MANY accounts and they'll cut your pay by 40%! Get ready for a wild ride and demoralization or find a new job and don't look back. Read archives from this site. It's actually worse than what I've written.

Initially but don't count on this promise forever. - Nuance will add staff to your account

[ In Reply To ..]
You will run out of work and they will add another account and perhaps a third. It's musical chairs at Nuance.

overstaffing - see message

[ In Reply To ..]
Especially if it is an account that has a lot of American-born dictators. Those accounts will be given to all the "newbies" they hire or sent offshore, irregardless of what you have been told.

As an American Nuance newbie I was given a difficult account. - one they could not keep staffed

[ In Reply To ..]
Good accounts go to India after awhile and do not stay in the US other than long enough for American MTs to train the VR,

Promises, all lies - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry, but it will not stay that way long. You will be bounced around until you just can't handle all the account specs, QA nit-picking and OOW situations. Read just a few old posts and you will know that everything they promise is a lie! You have been warned.

They will keep you on initially, few weeks maybe - until VR learns the dictators. After

[ In Reply To ..]
that, they'll open it up to the rest of the team and offshore. If it's simple clinic, it'll go offshore quickly. Good luck. Transcription as you knew it is over. If you have a solid backup plan you should be okay.

Please read all posts below this one. Go - back for at least 2 weeks.

[ In Reply To ..]
You will learn all you need to learn if you just please read all the previous posts. You will NOT be sorry, I promise.

This post bears repeating. Please read before - it is too late for you

Every time there is a hospital or clinic acquisition, those "acquired" MTs will be crammed onto existing accounts as their own account/work types become more streamlined and less available as more and more of it is done more efficiently with voice wreck and 3 shifts of people to do the work.

Think of it like when a larger dog moves into a pen already crowded with too many dogs. All the pre-existing dogs have to scooch over yet again (exist on less) to make room for the new dog in the cage.

You will never be told when this is going to happen, of course.

All the recent talk about capacity optimization? That is just a fancy name for what they been doing all along. Shifting everyone around trying to keep too many clients happy while losing experienced old dogs who just got way too tired of scooching over to make room for the new people all the time just to stay alive.

They lie to "acquisitions" to avoid paying - unemployment insurance.

[ In Reply To ..]
An accusation of lying is a serious charge, and it is not one I take lightly.

Nuance just out-and-out lies to potential employees at all "acquisitions" to help the facility avoid paying out unemployment claims and avoid paying it themselves when they lay you off. This is a matter of routine for them. But, they will ABSOLUTELY let you run out of work repeatedly, day after day, lose your house, go on food stamps before laying you off. No, no, they will let you starve and then quit on your own. It is absolutely their modus operandi.

This is on the Ambulatory side... - sls9700

[ In Reply To ..]
...Does anyone know if that makes a difference in being able to stay with the clinic you transitioned over with? We were told by the recruiter that Ambulatory is different and that the unhappy people were on the main Acute side. I would love to hear from some people currently on the Ambulatory side about their experiences.

You can bet they told the acute care side people - Val

[ In Reply To ..]
that all the unhappy people were on the ambulatory side. It does not matter. It's all lies, lies, divide and conquer and send the good stuff overseas. If you made good money, you will lose income and self esteem. Get out of MT. The experiences documented on MTStars are real.

I was on the ambulatory side and it's no better than - what I imagine the acute side to be. SM

[ In Reply To ..]
They still can't keep everything staffed properly. A few weeks ago there was some rearranging of managers and accounts, they wanted people to take some assigned accounts and to be responsible for the TAT on a 24/7 basis.

Apparently that's not going so well...

The dictators aren't really the best, some okay but you're not left on any specific dictators long enough to learn them well. It's constant shuffling and they were usually begging for more help and more people to take more accounts.

The InScribe system pretty much sucks as far as being able to figure out your QA to understand exactly what your error was. I still never figured it out, and pretty much gave up on it.

Managers are never around when you need them for a question answered.

Specs are extremely vague, no samples at all to go on, and you need to print out about 20 pages or so of specs. I condensed mine by changing margins and spacing.

Don't believe managers when they tell you the "other people" are all the unhappy ones. All the managers lie from both of their faces. This many MTs on one site with the same complaints are not all wrong.

Please re-post this from time to time, please? - More people need to read this every week.

[ In Reply To ..]
There are always newcomers to this board and they sometimes don't really understand that they should read a couple of weeks back into the archive of this board. This is one of those I think should be posted and re-posted again (the information is just that SPOT ON)!

I am referring to the post immediately above this one, "I was on the ambulatory side and it's no better than..."

Good job, somebody, please re-post this every once in awhile!

Dont believe that you will be the "only" ones to work on that account. When the hospitals I worked for sold out to N, we were told we would be the only ones to work on our account for at least the first year....LIE. Within a couple weeks there were constant OOW situations because they had overstaffed the account. I got my secondary account, which I now despise. I am supposed to get a new primary account, but surprise...there is little to no work in it today. So now I have to work in the secondary. I cannot go back to my original account because of OOW situations.

They lie to get you to come over to them, train their system and then they overstaff to your account. Be careful how you agree to go on another account full time...I regret ever agreeing to it. QA will pick your work apart. They make all these promises that they do not keep. They say you will be making the same as you did with your clinic....LIE. Unskilled pay for skilled work. Might as well work at a convenience store or Mickey D's.

Run....while....you....can!

Thanks for the input - sls9700

Oh, believe me, I don't trust anyone anymore. I'm sure it was a line of BS. I am working on my exit plan from this career, hopefully within the year. Thanks for all the responses.

Nuance not only trained us on their eScription software, they TOOK Over our entire hospital. I came from Alaska. I was told I would get to keep the hospital account since I was familiar. LIES LIES LIES!! THEY LIE. They treat you like SH** and don't care. Run very fast and far far away from this company. All you are to them is a butt in a seat with 10 fingers. They WILL send most of the work to India like they did with our hospital account, called Follow the Sun. I quit without notice and didn't even as much get an email or a phone call from the company. I was very fortunate to get a clinic job that allowed me to move to a different state and work, and get paid .18 a line! NUANCE, YOU SUCK!

Keeping fingers crossed... - sls9700

Well, I just got a call for an interview this afternoon that could save me from having to take the Nuance offer. Keeping fingers, toes and everything else crossed.:)

In-house Job
Oct 14, 2010

I applied for an in-house transcription job in August back at my old pre-MQ hospital.  They decided the work load was too light (they had lost Radiology) and we not going to fill it at that time.  Another position has been vacated and I got a call from a friend that they are definitely filling it this time.  There were only 2 qualified applicants in August.  I am hoping the other person found something great already.  I have my fingers crossed, am nervous, and need ...

Does VR Get Better If Kept In-house?
May 16, 2012

Have any of your hospitals purchased a Nuance VR product that they've used for their in-house transcriptionists?  If so, does the VR quality get better and better since you have a limited number of MTs doing the editing?   It's not my hospital but one I know of that's starting with this new product, so I'm not sure of the exact product name.  I've worked for a huge MTSO where the VR never, ever improved in the 9 months I used it; but with soooo many MTs m ...

In-house Job Not So Secure
Aug 23, 2010

My job could be in jeopardy because we might be merging with another clinic, and there are no other local in-house MT openings. I've been working in a specialty clinic (in-house) the past 5-1/2 years. Even though I have 5 years of acute care/radiology experience and 1 year of multi-specialty clinic, and even though I took the M-TEC course and graduated with 98% about 3 years ago, it doesn't matter because I don't have recent acute care experience. Okay, I can unders ...

In-house Clinic Pay
Nov 16, 2010

I have an interview with a local eye clinic (there are six surgeons).  Just wondering what kind of salary to expect to be offered or ask for (!), having been paid as a remote MT/VR Editor by production for many years and haven't a clue about salaries in clinics any more.  It is not as an IC but as member of their staff, permanent, full-time, 40 hours a week. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA.   ...

Got An In-house Interview!
Jan 05, 2013

It's for third shift, which doesn't excite me, but from the second Nuance gave me a Christmas 25% pay cut I've been scouring jobs of all shapes and sizes. Imagine my surprise when I found an in-house job advertised looking for a CMT only. I really hope I get it so I can give Nuance the finger, which they will probably be glad about so they can give what little work I have left to India. I've been through several mergers and it's been relatively painless until the latest ...

I am excited to say that I have a upcoming job interview to work in-house in behavorial health. That said, I am looking forward to steady, stable, income along with health insurance, benefits, and being paid per hour. In-house Job Prospect, What To Expect?
Sep 01, 2011

I just set up an interview for an in-house job.  Problem is, I've only worked from home, so I'm really not sure what to expect.  It is for a rural hospital district.  My experience is with medium to large multispecialty clinic accounts.  The HM manager said it was transcription, including radiology, as well as acting as assistant to her, which makes me think it might be more clerk work than transcription. I'm wondering if there are any questions I should ask m ...

Advice On In-House Versus Work-At-Home MT
