Ever have days that you just don't care. This is one - wannie

Posted: Oct 14, 2013

of those days that I regret ever having gone to work for Transcend who later sold out to Nuance.  Never have I dreaded getting up in the morning and going to work like I do now.  VR is a train wreck; it never learns, adds things that are not even close to what was said, adds things that weren't said, etc.  FIESA is a big, fat joke.  Nuance is a pain in the patukas.  Sorry, just needed to let it all out.

It's destorying itself - Janey

The VR is getting worse, it is worse now than when it started, it does not recognize as much and it is leaving out big chunks of sentences. It types conversations the dictators are having with others around them, not correctly, so having to delete whole paragraphs almost of jibberish. Forget it if there is background noise, you type the whole report almost. It think this company is going to destroy itself.

I never thought I would say this, but today is one time - wannie

that wouldn't bother me one bit. I have never worked for any company, big or small, who had so little regard for their employees. If this company is going to destroy itself, I hope it hurries. I've about had all I can take. Been looking for another job, but live in a very small town, not a lot of opportunities, and the ones that are out there pay low wages. I'm not getting rich at Nuance, but definitely can't afford a big cut in pay.

Been one of those days for me too - Fedup

Got an urgent email from my TSM about a call tomorrow because of my line count being under what it should be. I try and try, but there are days it's impossible with the dictators who try and eat and dictate, or who take phone calls and don't pause the dictation. Had a 28 minute dictation the only day and it was only 40 lines because most of it was a phone call he took while dictating. Don't know how much more I can take.
Right there with you. I have the same problem. - Discouraged

I get dictations that give me about half or less what should be expected. I have also had jobs where I have transcribed almost a whole report and then the dictator will decide to cancel it and say they'll redictate it later. I have been told to just cancel it and that's that, that I won't get paid for ANY of those lines, or that time, even though I did the work, that it is just the way it is.

I have never worked for a company before that did not pay me for the work done in those situations. It has always been that if those lines were transcribed, they were billed, because we (I) did the work, and it is no fault of the transcriptionist if the dictator canceled the work after the fact.

In what other job would anyone ever get away with not paying someone for work already done? I don't know how that's legal.

So those are lines transcribed that I don't get paid for and that don't count towards the LPH requirement, even though I did the work.

Try figuring out your LPH adding in the average lines per minute for those jobs for the time you worked on them and I bet you would be much closer to the LPH requirement, so it's not that you're not making the grade. I am in the same boat and I am sure I will be getting an email soon about a call to tell me LPH is under what it should be too.

Every single day......sm - LoveMT

I just don't care about anything anymore. I don't care about anything except doing my 8 hours 5 days a week, and making sure my reports are accurate (according to my standards and not the ridiculous QA offshore) and leaving the damn job right at my computer after I clock out.

I have never been in such a miserable job in my life, and I am actively seeking a way out as soon as possible. I am giving only what is required of me, not an ounce more, ever again. Tired of being jerked around and cheated out of what I've earned.

Another Sad Option For Medical Care Is Charity Care. Work With The People
Nov 06, 2014

...bills. Most Saint hospitals and others actually operate as non-profits, and for what they are screwing us over in taxes unpaid, they can afford to help out folks with their bills and still give their CEOs generous stock options and obscene salaries! But, you have to ask for this after your visit, treatment, x-ray, or ER visit. ASK for help if you need it. It is not our fault that suits are in charge of medical care in this country.  ...

Ever Have One Of Those Days When
Nov 12, 2010

every other report is tragic? Tonight I just want to quit, so depressing. I hate doing child death reports, alcohol-involved MVAs where someone dies, drug overdoses where the person dies, attempted suicide, severe brain damage/paralysis from fall, all in one shift, all young people!! Giving extra hugs to my children and hubby tonight.  Sometimes I want to go back to doing just clinic work. Thanx for the vent and someplace to take a break. ...

Ever Have One Of Those Days, Where It Seems All The
Feb 15, 2011

It seems that every dictator tonight has made some sort of mistake or said something that doesn't seem right (mg/mcg, right/left, dates, names, age, etc.) that required extra research through past reports (if your lucky they have some) to get correct information?  Or where the residents make you want to beat your head against the wall because they cannot pronounce half the stuff their field exposes them to?  Sure, a handful a day is expected, but there are some days where it' ...

One Of Those Days
Mar 11, 2011

I'm having one of those days - can't understand a blessed thing anyone's saying!  I'll have days in a row without a single blank, and today - barely a report without at least one!  I think my so-called "listening ear" has taken a vacation! Think I'll sign off and settle down with a martini to toast the week-end, and hopefully all will be back to normal tomorrow!     ...

Low Pay For MTs These Days
Apr 21, 2011

I am in quite a quandy right now.  I have been out of work as an MT now for 3 months due to a layoff.  I started off in this field 15 years ago earning 11 cents a line for a transcription company.  My last job paid me 9 cents a line.  Now I am looking to find a part-time job and I can't find anything over 8 cents a line.  Doesn't experience matter anymore or is the transcription field pay rate getting lower and lower all the time?  I am shocked, because fo ...

One Of Those Days.
May 04, 2011

Today I had a 35 minute report by one of the worst dictators. On top of that her phone line is really bad. I did the best I could and ended up sending the report to QA. QA was able to fill in about half of the blanks that I had. I ended up sending an e-mail to my supe to see if anything could be done about her phone line, and if she could please listen to the report. Less than a minute later she e-mailed my back stating that she could hear the report just fine. My question is, how can it take le ...

Jun 06, 2011

just above any profession but this one looks good.  Back-to-back ESL who gets on late at night, dictates report after report after report, marks them all priority even though they may be for admissions/discharges from 2-3 months ago.  He's horrible to listen.  Talks so softly sometimes he can barely be heard.  Flies through lab results, etc.  And, I think I'm the primary transcriptionist on this account.  I have literally begged to have this account t ...

Anyone Else Always Have Days Like This?
Aug 02, 2011

For some unknown reason my footpedal just decides to stop working this morning and I spend hours to get it going again. I finally get back into my groove, only to get a dictation that is 29 minutes long with only 4 minutes of actual dictating! I can never get ahead and get a decent line count anymore. There is always something that comes up to keep my production down and shrink my paycheck. I wish we were compensated fairly for times when a dictator keeps the phone on for 28 minutes without ...

10 More Days
Jan 08, 2015

I have 10 more days of transcription then I am done.  First let me thank Jesus for getting me out of this misery.  I've been a transcriptionist for almost 20 years, back in the day with cassetts, C-phones, good pay, communication between the doctors and the transcriptionst, respect, over-time pay, holidays off, etc.  You know, I actually had life outside of transcription  I found a job doing medical assisting in a doctor's office and I am so looking forward to havi ...

Good Ol' Days
Oct 29, 2009

Remember the good old days, when we worked either in a transcription pool, the medical records department or at a doctor's office?  I was trying to figure out what a doctor was saying in a report and dreading leaving a QA marker for fear of "points"... I remember going to hunt down the doctors in the old days, sitting down to have conversations with them. They would help us fill in the blanks and mostly apologize for not speaking clearly (at least they did at the hospital where I ...

Do You Remember The Days When ......
Nov 12, 2009

You actually looked forward to getting the PA instead of the doctor because they were so much easier to hear, understand, etc., except for the fact that most of them have no clue when it comes to pronouncing medications and feel that it is above them to spell the medication out.  In my case it seems that the roles have flipped nowadays, I absolutely hate seeing the PA coming up and would rather do the doctor any day of the week!!     ...

Does Anyone Else Have Days Where You Just Want To Reach Through
Dec 27, 2009

your monitor and deck a dictator?  I am getting the same 3 or 4 docs, over and over today.  They are all your run-in-the-mill dictators, dictate too fast and slur a bit, but I can usually deal with them and it does not bother me much.  Today, I don't know if it is me or them, but they are just TERRIBLE!  They all seem to be slurring much worse than normal, talking even faster than usual through the entire document, and now they all seem to be yawning and they continue to ...
