These may be stupid questions but I have to ask.

What does IC stand for?

Also, I keep hearing talk of speech recognition, are MT schools teaching this? How can you train for this?

You are resposible for your taxes, expenses etc if you are an IC versus being an employee.

A good school will teach you how to properly edit your transcription and a good school will have many (2000+) hours of transcription that you will have to edit.

Truer words were never spoken! I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I see that some of the matchbooks are offering 150 hours. Geez, Louise. This is a very concrete example of why folks really need to do their due diligence before handing over their hard-earned cash.

I'm currently going to Allied. I know, I know, I've read everything about Allied but it is what it is and I'm making the best of it and am remaining optimistic! :) And actually, I thought I did do my due diligence but I'm finding out now that it wasn't enough. I wish I would have found this site prior to signing up. But... I have an opportunity to purchase a few of the SUM Program CDs. Allied does use the Beginning Medical Transcription Unit CD but will it benefit me to purchase the additional CDs and answer keys? Any input is greatly appreciated!

It may help you pass an employment test, dependent upon if you understand why you are making mistakes on them and correct them.

It probably won't help you to get an employer to give you the chance to test.

In the Transcribed By box in the demographics screen I usually see: MT/CCM/tier nameofMT In the first part, I know what MT, ME, and MME stand for, but I have been getting an S, #S, or SE lately. Why do they make such a big deal out of an error, including sending e-mails saying "ERROR ALERT" or making a 3-point error a "critical patient safety error," then docking your pay for same, but if you go back to look at the document or to listen to it again, which you can in Escription, they have NEVER CORRECTED THE ERROR??? I have downloaded Google Chrome. I have used the Google quick search box on my former computer. I am having trouble locating this for my new computer. What you do is tap the control keep twice, and a very small search box appears on the middle of your screen so you don't have to access anything with the mouse.
