shift diff vs CMT diff -- just for clarification - anonMT

Posted: Jan 02, 2011

Shift differential is applied to lines transcribed after, say, 6pm.  MQ's shift diff was 1/2 cpl for lines transcribed 6pm-midnight EST, and 1 cpl for lines transcribed midnight-6am EST.  Now, it appears MQ's shift diff is 3/4 cpl for lines transcribed 9pm-5am EST.

CMT differential is simply an increased line rate, regardless of when the lines are transcribed.  It's basically a higher rate of pay for obtaining certification.  The shift diff would be in addition to this.

Question:  If MQ offers a CMT differential, does it apply to ASR work and straight transcription, or to just straight transcription?

I just got my CMT this fall and the differential applies to both transcription and ASR, however here is how they calculate it: The CMT differential is added to your transcription line rate. Your ASR line rate then re-calculates to 60% of the new transcription line rate. Make sense? Its not much, but it does add up and hey, every little bit helps right?

ASR 60% of straight transcription rate? - anonMT

Thanks for the reply! The CMT differential with MQ would make a huge difference for me. Right now, my ASR line rate is only 43% of my straight transcription line rate. If that went up to 60%, I'd actually be making a decent living. Literally 97% of my work is ASR.

Thanks again for the help!

Hope I didn't steer you wrong - about ASR rate

Mine has always been 60% of transcription rate. I thought everyone's was. Are you a new hire? I have been with the Q for 7 years so maybe it is different for me. I hope I did not tell you something that does not apply to you. If so, I am really sorry. You should check with your CCM to see if your ASR rate is a different calculation. Regardless, any little bit helps, I know.
Yeah, I'm a new-hire, though I'm nowhere near a newbie. - anonMT

Thanks for the advice. I'll discuss this with my CCM and get some figures, but if she only offers 0.005 cpl on top of my already abysmal ASR rate, I have to wonder if that will really offset the CMT annual fees and the continuing eduction expenses to maintain certification?

I appreciate your advice and information. Thanks!
ASR rate for new hires versus older employees - a1typist

Per my understanding, new hires are at 4 cents per line and that is where the company would eventually like all employees to be (per my CCM who is of the opinion that the company wants an entire work force paid at minimum wage within the next 2 years).
Thanks for the heads-up! - anonMT

It is expensive - but lasts 3 years
[ In Reply To ..]
I know its kind of expensive. I took the prep course which was $125 because I wanted to make sure I passed it before forking over the bucks for the test. BUT having said that, I did the math and I will make up that money in about 4 months with the raise & the CMT is good for 3 years. I don't plan on every renewing it though because I hope to be out of school and on to a better paying and more secure career before the 3 years is up! Good luck to you!
Meant to say "ever" renewing it. - Typo.

Shift Diff
Jan 20, 2014

I don't see any shift diff on my stub, how do you know if you qualify?  I know dumb question right?  at one time I was told that since I was "hourly" and tier 3 I was at the highest rate already, but then they changed us to production pay, so shouldn't that mean I qualify for shift diff.  I will ask HR, but just curious if anyone get shift diff pay? ...

Another Thing About The Shift Diff Pay Cut.......
Dec 26, 2010

Why they don't just do away with it altogether is beyond me; they may as well, it's just an insult to our intelligence.  I'd rather just them just say, "sorry, no more bonuses, no more shift diffs."  It reminds me of when they did away with the production bonus early last year but replaced it with a "raise" for all of us.  It sounds good on paper until you sat down and figured it out........and for most of us the raise amounted to literally pennies a day.  So ...

Diff Between Companies
Sep 15, 2013

can anyone out there tell me what kind of differences there are between transcription companies? most important thing i'd like to know - are there any companies out there that actually assign accounts to their transcriptionists, where you're not getting a thousand different dictators a week and you can actually get used to how your docs dictate? i find it very hard to do different stuff all the time. i just can't seem to get used to how the docs speak, and it really slows me down ...

Clarification Of QC%
Dec 23, 2014

Has anyone else had a very high QC% these last two weeks? Mine has been off the chart, as in, higher than it's ever been and not matching what I'm actually sending to QC myself.  It also doesn't match what's in FIESA (which would also include files that go to QC automatically).
