Big diff Tiers 2 and 3? - FlyingPhalanges

Posted: Dec 08, 2009

Is there an appreciable difference, cpl-wise, or job security-wise, between tiers 2 and 3?  Is it worth it to tier up?  I'm pretty happy at tier 2, but don't know whether it makes sense to stay here.

No difference - Anon

Your cpl is not based on your tier level. If you test up, you probably will not get a raise any easier than you will staying where you are. You will just get harder, or unfamiliar work. If you're happy where you are, stay there!

Sounds good, thanks! nm - FlyingPhalanges

I disagree. Tier 1 doesn't make as much as Tier 3. - mtt

I also disagree. Tier 3 makes more than tier 2 also. It's my PERSONAL BELIEF that all MTs at MQ should try to tier up. It opens everyone up to many more and varied accounts.

In the "old days" MTs generally were, like doctors, specialized in one area, radiology, cardiology, clinic, ER... In the field the way it is, if you limit yourself to one particular area, you're also limiting yourself financially, period. I've heard that there is more occurrences of NJA at the tier 1 level (??) don't know for sure.

We MTs now should be able to type out any and all types of transcription reports. It is vital to survive in the field the way it has gone, all automated and such. Only the MT's can save this field from going the way of the Detroit car industry. We have to be willing to adapt and accept the changes that come.

Like I said, just a PERSONAL BELIEF, but it is based on speaking to others who have found it in their benefit to tier up.

GOOD LUCK! (however you decide) and never forget WE ARE MIGHTY MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONISTS!

There is a max cpl for each tier. However, your hiring cpl has a big effect on what you can make tiering up. As well, tiering up does not automatically give you a raise.

I was going to tier up but after my CCM checked into what my new rate could be, it was about the same as my current cpl rate. With that in mind, I decided to stay put. I already get the same report types as tier 3 by doing area overflow work.

If you decide to tier up, be prepared for little change in you cpl. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

If you're at your max CPL for your current tier and already doing tier 3 reports for overflow, why not then tier up and get the max CPL for that next tier? Even a bit more is more. No?

No thank you. It's not worth the extra 0.005 cpl to tier up. I'd rather stay at 2 doing tier 3 overflow. It makes no sense to me tiering to 3 for this tiny increase. I want at least an increase of 1 cent.

I've been told multiple times the max I could get was 1/2 cent and that's not even guaranteed to happen.

I'm only 1/2 cent from the MAX cpl for a tier 3. I started out at a higher cpl than MQ starts MTs at. They bought the company I worked a while back and part of the contract was they had to keep our current CPL.

Thank you for all the thoughtful replies - FlyingPhalanges

You have given me something to think about. I feel comfortable where I am, but comfortable is not always the best way to go. I will think long and hard about whether I want to tier up.

Shift Diff Vs CMT Diff -- Just For Clarification
Jan 02, 2011

Shift differential is applied to lines transcribed after, say, 6pm.  MQ's shift diff was 1/2 cpl for lines transcribed 6pm-midnight EST, and 1 cpl for lines transcribed midnight-6am EST.  Now, it appears MQ's shift diff is 3/4 cpl for lines transcribed 9pm-5am EST. CMT differential is simply an increased line rate, regardless of when the lines are transcribed.  It's basically a higher rate of pay for obtaining certification.  The shift diff would be in ad ...

For Those Of You Who Have An Incentive Plan, Where Do The Tiers Start? Sm
Jun 28, 2013

The company I am with requires 175 lph minimum, then if you do 275 lph you get 1/4 cent extra and then at 325 you get another 1/4. This is all straight typing. Maybe I'm just in one of my dissatisfied moods, but it doesn't seem like much extra -- at their top tier you'd only make 1/2 cent more per line. Maybe I have it great and just don't realize it. ...

Diff Between Companies
Sep 15, 2013

can anyone out there tell me what kind of differences there are between transcription companies? most important thing i'd like to know - are there any companies out there that actually assign accounts to their transcriptionists, where you're not getting a thousand different dictators a week and you can actually get used to how your docs dictate? i find it very hard to do different stuff all the time. i just can't seem to get used to how the docs speak, and it really slows me down ...

Shift Diff

I don't see any shift diff on my stub, how do you know if you qualify?  I know dumb question right?  at one time I was told that since I was "hourly" and tier 3 I was at the highest rate already, but then they changed us to production pay, so shouldn't that mean I qualify for shift diff.  I will ask HR, but just curious if anyone get shift diff pay? ...

Another Thing About The Shift Diff Pay Cut.......
Dec 26, 2010

Why they don't just do away with it altogether is beyond me; they may as well, it's just an insult to our intelligence.  I'd rather just them just say, "sorry, no more bonuses, no more shift diffs."  It reminds me of when they did away with the production bonus early last year but replaced it with a "raise" for all of us.  It sounds good on paper until you sat down and figured it out........and for most of us the raise amounted to literally pennies a day.  So ...
