That is what I was told. You are not on the list of Laid off Employees. There is a list? Medquist actually laid off people? Yes. There is a list. Medquist sent it to us. Really? How many people did they lay off when CBay got 80% of the work?

Drum roll please.......................

Yes, 6.

You mean they got taken over by a company in India with 6,000 employees and they only had to lay of 6 USA transcriptionists?

Even if you are not on the short list, you can still file for TAA benefits as an adversely affected worker. Don't wait for the phone call. I would say at the very least Medquist is somewhat underestimating the offshoring effect, and the Department of Labor agrees.

You are clearly not on the list, so how do you qualify? What did they tell you? Every single time that I have called, probably 15 times to 10 different people, I have been told YOU HAVE TO BE LAID OFF.

How do you file for TAA benefits as an adversely affected worker? I have never heard of this option.

Contact your regional director and complain that office failed to - help you as a MQ MT

Actually file for the benefits. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE LAID OFF TO GET TAA.

Do more than just call your office. Be proactive. File for unemployment. Then go in and talk to the TAA person in your local Workforce Development office. Every office has a contact. Be sure to take a copy of the MQ Petition with you and explain you are applying based on decreased pay consistently and low work availability -- a result of offshoring by MQ -- all explained in federal petition for all MQ MTs/MMEs.

So then . . . how did the MTs manage to get a TAA certification? - If only 6 were laid off? Huh?

MQ at one point had over 10,000 employees. There are around 3,500 employees now.

From the TAA decision 72193 itself:

Act, 19 U.S.C. Â§ 2272(a)(1)) requires that a significant
number or proportion of the workers in the workers' firm
must have become totally or partially separated or be
threatened with total or partial separation.

So then, what the heck is going on? There had to be way more than 6 people laid off out of a former 10,000 employee company to quality for TAA.

Something is not right about this whole deal.

If you go to federal site, you can read background of entire MQ petition filed in Oregon. It's not just based on layoffs, but on the fact MQ outsourced significant amount of work to Indiana, which affects available work in U.S. states, which leads to NJA, decreased in pay because pay affected by production which require work to be available. It's not really that hard to grasp.

IT IS PERFECTLY CLEAR.

Reading the certification makes it perfectly clear. The TAA was not given for nothing. Nor just for 6 employees being laid off. There has clearly been a significant cut back in available work/hours/and also salary cuts, and I believe a lot more than 6 people were laid off.

There has to be something behind this selection process. If I were streamlining the company, I would lay off starting with tier I (because tier 2 and tier 3 can also do the work) and then tier 2 (because tier 3 can also do the work). I think MModal will eventually end up with only tier 3 employees in the US, and they will force them to all become MMEs. JMHO. Is there is quick way to add commas between items in a list? Of course, using Ctl K in front a word will change the punctuation, but it will also change a capitalized drug to lower case, and you will still have to get to the beginning of the next drug which will require 2 Ctl arrows and backspace. Ctl arrow takes you to the beginning of the next word, but you will have to backspace to put in the comma. Adding punctuation to lists is so time consuming! ...

I was just curious about what employees thought of Nuance on Glassdoor. You read several US employee opinions and they reflect the morale listed on MTStars. Scroll further down and read the opinions of the transcriptionists from India. What a difference. They are highly satisfied with their jobs and most have been working with Nuance for 6 to 7 years. I have this hint that normally helps me: “lie, lay, lain” (to recline); “lay, laid, laid” (to place or put down). The sentence is: "The patient was brought into the endoscopy suite and 'laid' in the left decubitus position." I have heard that their transcription and editing platforms -- Escription will work with satellite internet. I know I am not the only one who could no longer work at Nuance due to only having satellite internet. I was working for awhile at my daughter's home, but that did not work out too well due to house overrun by all the kids and their friends.
