On my every-other-month audit by my QTL I lost points for expanding Clostridium difficule, but SHE wanted me to put (I kid you not) C Diff.

Now I have been reading stories by newswriters about E-coli, but I'm still putting E. coli.

Please don't tell me those idiot biddies at AHDI have changed the "rules" on us again.

I also make money typing papers for professional journals, and I really HATE dumbing myself down for MQ.

and...I'm still getting broken jobs with terms like "vanco" in them from my "peers."

At least tey certainly state DO NOT abbreviate the species.

It makes it a bit easier if you don't have to go back and UN-capitalize the difficile since it comes after a period. But I'm on your side; I always type C. difficile. And E. coli.

If you have your set-up such that the letter after the period automatically capitalizes, you don't have to go back and fix it---just hit F2 on the function keys before you type the "diff" part and it will not auto-capitalize the next letter. Then F2 again to toggle it back on, before proceeding ahead. Takes a little bit of practice, but once you do it a few times, it's finger muscle memory, like everything else. F4 is used in the same manner for expanding or not expanding abbreviations. It, too, is a toggle on/off key.

Rules couldn't have changed because they use the BOS2 only. It is in the AAMT BOS2: Genus and species names. "In a second reference to a genus-species term, the genus name may be abbreviated as a single letter without a period (NOTE: Some references use a period, but AAMT recommends dropping it.) A longer abbreviation may be used to avoid confusion S aureus or Staph aureus."

Also says: "always lowercase species names." in this same section.

C Diff is also in Stedman's Abbreviations, Acronyms & Symbols

I have posted on here many times about putting in requests to have doctors removed from ASR and have been told it doesn't do any good. Apparently some people are listening. I was told that they are flooded with requests now and it is taking a little longer to get to my requests reviewed. Morning all. Knew it was coming, just didn't know when. CTL gone Monday and this a.m., a totally new CCM. Haven't been told anything by anyone at MQ about any of this. Just happened. It's OK. The last CCM was pretty bad, never answered E.mails or phone calls. The CTL was great though and that is probably why she is gone. I was looking over already transcribed reports by others to check on a medication and came across a mistake that really makes us look foolish and is something, IMHO, that any transcriptionist would know and this doctor speaks good English. apparently I was only employed by Nuance thru last December. Starting in January I was employed by Transcend. This is as per the state unemployment benefits office. Yesterday (Sun) was a nightmare. I was struggling to get jobs all day long (see posts below). There were very few last night even, when there are normally an abundance of jobs. I was bouncing all over the place; it was like the cesspool all over again. Look at the backlog this morning; only 400 jobs company wide at 8 EST?
