MT week coming up - anon
Posted: May 01, 2011
Gee, we at WMX just got our present early. A surprise cut in pay and bonus plan. I really hope they don't have any other little "gifts" in store for us.
MT week? - Who made that one up?

Seriously, "Medical Transcriptionist Week?"

I still have the bumper sticker that my supervisor had made for us during my first MT week 20+ years ago. It says: "Medical Transcription: A Secure Career" - um... not so much anymore!
oh, that is priceless - collector's item! NM - anon

Actually it was started in 1985 and the proclamation was signed by President Ronald Regan.
I personally think we deserve it. Ore department (Pathology) does not recognize it because they say we are included when they celebrate National Laboratory Week.
We (transcriptionist) in our department disagree. We are putting together our own celebration and will use our lunch hour May 18th for our celebtation.
We are having cake and ice cream (the cake is a replica of a dictaphone) and we are ordering sandwiches from a gourmet deli and play some word games. We have gift certificates as prizes for the winner. I am preparing a CD for each of us with theme music from TV medical shows and some medical jokes I found on Napster. We are going to have a GREAT time. WE NEED TO CELEBRATE US AND THE CONTRIBUTION WE MAKE TO PATIENT CARE.
Awesome! Good for you and the MTs of your dept. :-) nm - Proud MT
MT week has been around forever, and before that we were part of secretary's day. - anon

Of course, when we were part of sectary's day - that dates back to the day of working on IMB selectric typewriters.
With the birth of MTSOs and working at home (tapes, couriers, and 24 hour TAT on EVERYTHING), we got some pretty good gifts, usually one from corporate office and one from our branch manager. My favorite one year was a little "voodoo" doctor doll in green scrubs, and 3 large stickpins. He sat right up there on my monitor, and occasionally took a wrap upside the head that resulted in a fly-by past the dog and into the hallway.
Miss that little guy. Literally beat the stuffin' out of him over time.

Now that is something that would be a useful gift!!
Nonsense - wow, really? - Proud MT

Hope you read the proclamation and get a dose of esteem and worth in your skills and knowledge.
I dont need a patronizing proclamation to get a "dose" of - self-esteem and value

Why, AHDI, of course, in its previous incarnation as the AAMT. This nonsense is just another service it provides to the working MT.
Do you have a point? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Is it that if AAMT/AHDI had anything to do with it, it must be 100% evil and worthless? Well, then don't celebrate it. Donate your mug to charity.
MT Week was declared long ago. Kind of seems silly to be harping on it now. I for one don't mind hearing "happy MT week," even if it's just from my fellow MTs. You don't have to see evil in everything unless you want to, you know.
MT week - no surprises - Nick
[ In Reply To ..]
Since MT Week is a social construct of AHDI, it should come as no surprise that many MTs will get nothing but a kick in the pants. This falls right into line with how AHDI has exploited MTs through the years. MT Week? Nah, don't buy into it.
MT Week is not a "social construct of AHDI" but a proclamation by President Reagan. - Proud MT

Get your facts straight and check out links to the proclamation that have been put in a couple of posts in this thread. Geez.
MT week as a social construct - Nick
[ In Reply To ..]
Come on. MT Week is a perfect example of a social construct, and yes, I am aware that the Gipper declared it. One can have weeks declared for various things. That is why lobbyists exist. You don't see a doctors' week or a lawyers' week or an engineers' week, do you? No, those are professional occupations, just as MTing should be. But no, we are stuck in the pink collar ghetto with secretaries' week, etc. Sorry, no. I'm not buying it, and I do not need someone in Washington to stroke my ego and somehow tell me I am wonderful because I can do my job properly.
Actually... - MT

Actually all of those professions DO have a day or a week. There is:
National Doctors Day: March 30
National Nurses Week: May 6-12
Be Kind to a Lawyer Day
National Engineers Week
These things are really about celebrating what we do, that's it.
LMAO @ "proclamation" - Length of time in existence makes it no less

Nick - so sorry that you have such a miserable life/job in the transcription field. Perhaps you need to find something else that you are happy doing. I happen to like my job!!!
MT Week- buy yourself some flowers! - ooo
[ In Reply To ..]
I just buy myself a bouquet of something on sale as I haven't seen anything in years! Used to be a big deal in the offices, flowers, lunch, etc. Now it has gone the way of everything in this profession down the toilet.... (yeah I'm a little bitter)
Yes, buy some flowers! - Nick
[ In Reply To ..]
I support MTs acknowledging ourselves rather than waiting for some corporate nana to send us a Chapstick on a chain. I hope you will get yourself some beautiful flowers, remind yourself that you ARE worh something independent of all of the corporate nonsense that seems to have overtaken MTing and have a great day. Perhaps if MTs ourselves would "take back" our day from both AHDI and the corporations, it would have more meaning. Like you, I have strong feelings about what has happened. My feelings are a little different; I'm not bitter, I'm just disgusted. Enjoy your flowers, and remember, our worth does not depend upon corporate validation!
To all you wonderful MTs working and slaving your lives away, Happy MT Week. I appreciate you. I appreciate your kindness when I have a rant or a rave, when I'm at my wits end with the constant changing around of clients, client profiles and the never ending dings being thrown at me. I appreciate knowing that I am not alone in this struggle.
It is because of all of you, and only you MTs on this board that I manage to stay in this game. We are treated as less than second class citiz ...
Does anyone know when pay will be distributed this week? A big deal seemed to be made about getting payroll in quickly, so Im wondering if pay will be released before Thursday or if its just going to be Friday as usual. ...
Good grief. I did not change the way I edit. It so depends on how many commas they think you should have. Yes, I made an unusual (for me) mistake last week, but the rest of passing an audit is dumb luck of whether you get a realistic auditor or Ms English wannabe.
Everybody must be under pressure because of the cesspool as I see a lot of mistakes when I look up past reports to help with these mush mouths and accents. The time czar wants schedule changes, but I see no problems with turna ...
Does it now vary from week to week? I used to always know exactly what my PTO was and could calculate it but just noticed that it varied from one paycheck a couple of months back to this past week. How is this now figured? So confusing ...

I have posted on here many times about putting in requests to have doctors removed from ASR and have been told it doesn't do any good. Apparently some people are listening. I was told that they are flooded with requests now and it is taking a little longer to get to my requests reviewed. I have also noticed that some of the doctors I used to do in ASR are no longer in ASR. Thanks to all who are sending requests and keep them going. Some don't get removed, ...
Sure hope so. QA are being set up to be the "Payroll Gods". Setting us against each other. I know there is one particular QA that I cringe when I see her name. She is probably a nice person and just trying to do her job, but talk about nit-picky. She has a Master's degree in that area. ...
Obama announced a new tax break for every new employee hired will get a 5,000 tax break and up to 500,000 total for each company who hires new employees. My congressman is going to hear from tomrrow when I call his office.
You all know how MQ loves to hire new employees and I sure hope they do not plan on getting rid of us old ones and if they do? I see ANOTHER lawsuit coming called age discrimination. ...
On my every-other-month audit by my QTL I lost points for expanding Clostridium difficule, but SHE wanted me to put (I kid you not) C Diff.
Now I have been reading stories by newswriters about E-coli, but I'm still putting E. coli.
Please don't tell me those idiot biddies at AHDI have changed the "rules" on us again.
I also make money typing papers for professional journals, and I really HATE dumbing myself down for MQ.
and...I'm still getting broken jobs with terms like ...
Okay people, if you were in the middle of your shift, or you could not sign on for your shift, make sure you filed a Q-care ticket and notified your CCM. Mine has been sending E-mails throughout the day stating that she KNOWS that DQS is still down even though it shows a green light. By Medquists own Policy description for downtime for ME/MTs, this definitely qualifies. Go to MQ Central Home page---Human Resources---policies. At the bottom of the page there is a link call ...
So what do you think we'll get as a Christmas present this year? A new mouse pad, an envelope opener, perhaps a pencil with the Medquist logo on it, an eraser maybe? Oh, the possibilities are endless!! I'm sooooo excited, I just can't wait! After all, we know how much Medquist appreciates us by the way they treat us! Oh wait, I forgot, there have never been even cost of living raises let alone merit raises. Oh wait, I forgot ...
Is it just me, or would I be concerned 100+ folks are coming to M*M this week? Does anyone get concerned about this, such as going from FT to PT due to the pressure of tons of typists? ...
I was looking over already transcribed reports by others to check on a medication and came across a mistake that really makes us look foolish and is something, IMHO, that any transcriptionist would know and this doctor speaks good English. Would you notify QA so they can correct the report or notify the hospital to correct the report? Thanks for your opinion. ...
ok, I have been offered a secretarial job but it is with a new company so I am iffy on whether the comany will make it. My question to everyone here if it doesn't make it I would probably go back to MT. How long do you guys think I could be away and still be able to find a job?
Edited to add that I currenlty have 6 years experience at MT. ...
apparently I was only employed by Nuance thru last December. Starting in January I was employed by Transcend. This is as per the state unemployment benefits office. They were really interested that my check stubs said Transcend/DBA as Nuance out of Mass., and the W2s only had Transcend out of Melbourne, Florida. Asked me questions about it, but told them I had never noticed when Transcend was added to the check stubs, which I didn't. Don't know anything ab ...
Does anyone else have trouble when clicking Search where no search box comes up? Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't for a very long time. Just wondering if it is my computer or what. Anyone else have that trouble? ...
I just got word that they're going to be using the swapboard soon. Has anyone ever used that and can you tell me anything about it? I'm just curious if it's going to be a good thing or a bad thing. Thanks in advance for your help! ...
For those of you that you Express Scribe....I usually have no trouble getting my files to play, but I have a few files that are .wav and they keep coming up as 0:00. Does anyone else have this problem and do you know how I can fix it so they can play?
Thanks! ...
I have an interview with Transend on Friday. Does anyone know much about this company? I am currently emplloyed with another large transcription service, but looking for a job with more typing because I seem to make more money if I am typing rather than editing. Any input, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated :) ...
The hospital 5 minutes from my home has an in house MT position available! Full time, Monday through Friday, first shift.
I've been waiting forever for an in house position to come open there. My eyes nearly fell out of my head when I saw the listing!
I've been trying for months to get another job...doing ANYTHING....to get away from this place. I love MT, but I was ready to walk away from it all together. If I can have an hourly, in house MT position, though, ...
New CMT & RMT tests out, so off-shore will be teaching to the tests big time. This is going on in our industry and others; but savvy big companies are awake and tweaking certification testing to catch the problem; not sure ADHI is sophisticated enough for that. I am really NOT sure they WANT to address that issue. Watch the flood of new CMTs from off-shore...and what it does to availability of our jobs. (Yet there will be the re ...
so far? I know it is intense, but hope you know that it will be worth it! I am glad to know that many MTs are coming over into the coding world. We need good coders out here! ...
